## What is Phosphor 3?

Glow in the dark synthesis.

Phosphor 3 is a dual-oscillator additive synthesizer that puts the raw building blocks of sound at your fingertips. Draw, randomize, or select up
to 64 harmonics per oscillator, then shape them with envelopes, LFOs, cross-modulation, and a flexible mod matrix. Originally inspired by the
alphaSyntauri, a rare digital additive synth from the early 1980s, Phosphor 3 takes that concept far beyond its origins with modern MPE
expression, polyphonic modulation, and a full effects engine.
  ---
  Additive Oscillators

Two identical additive oscillators, each with up to 64 individually editable harmonics. Start from classic shapes: sawtooth, triangle, square,
or draw your own harmonic spectrum directly in the partial editor. The intelligent randomizer generates musically useful timbres with variable
rolloff, density, and formant peaks, so every click produces something worth exploring. Choose 16, 32, or 64 partials per oscillator to balance
complexity against CPU. Each oscillator has independent level, pan, transpose, fine tune, a noise generator with lo-fi downsampling, and
cross-modulation (FM) for pushing timbres into harsher, more complex territory.

  Modulation

Two ADSR envelopes with adjustable attack, decay, and release curves. Two LFOs with four waveforms (pulse, sine, saw, random), tempo sync, and
the option to run polyphonically, a separate LFO per voice, or globally. An 8-source modulation matrix routes velocity, pressure, pitch bend,
mod wheel, CC 74, triggered random, and both LFOs to destinations across the oscillators and effects.

  Effects

Stereo delay with independent left/right time, feedback, and cross-channel feedback for ping-pong and rhythmic patterns. Tempo sync locks delay
times to your DAW. Dual band-pass filters after the delay let you carve the wet signal into resonant, frequency-specific textures.

  Expression

Full MPE support with per-note pitch bend, pressure, and slide across 16 polyphonic voices. Mono legato and mono retrigger modes with adjustable
portamento. Unison mode for thick, detuned stacks. A scrollable 128-key on-screen keyboard with velocity from touch position, pitch bend from
horizontal drag, and channel pressure from vertical drag, no hardware controller required.

  Tuning

MTS-ESP client support for real-time microtuning from any MTS-ESP master. TUN file import for custom scales. Standard 12-TET with adjustable A4
  reference.

Supports AUv3 for use in GarageBand, AUM, Cubasis, and other AUv3-compatible hosts.

## Key features

- Vintage digital synthesizer emulation
- Additive synthesis engine

### 5/5 — Amazing!!

*2026-04-01*

I love this app so much! I’ve only used it for about an hour now, but I love the flexibility and lfo routing options - the interface is easy to use and quick which is so important when you’re trying to make music (less time fiddling, more time playing)

I wish the envelope attack could be increased beyond 2 seconds for bigger pads sounds, but I can’t bring myself to give less than 5 stars for this. Thanks for a great app.

### 3/5 — Crashes

*2024-09-11*

App will crash after going thru a couple presets. I just bought this, please update or refund please

### 5/5 — A beauty

*2024-07-22, version 3.1.6*

Capable of producing really out there, mesmerising, otherworldly sounds if you take your time with Phosphor 3. I can imagine it’s not to everyone’s tastes but if it is then there is nothing else like it. One of my favourite synths to use in almost every project, both in iOS and desktop.

### 5/5 — Capable and Amazing!

*2024-02-13*

I don’t know how long I’ve owned this synth but I just got around to playing it and wow, it’s fun! It has a unique feature which I’ve only seen on Copperhead by 4Pockets; it allows you to design your wave by setting the fundamentals! This is a big deal. You can learn a lot about audio waves just by observing the effect the fundamentals have in the wave shape.
Too bad there’s no oscilloscope to show the effect but there’s several on the App Store you can attach to via your DAW via auV3.
This is a great synth… just get it!!

### 4/5 — Frequent crashes when rotating presets

*2023-12-17*

After running through a number of presets, this synth will crash. I’ve been able to replicate this bug 4 times in the last 10 minutes of trying it out.

Edit: This bug may have been patched. There was a recent update but no update log. Before the app would crash at about 20-30 patch cycling. Now it's more like 100-150 when changing patches very quickly. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Frequent crashes when rotating presets

*2023-11-15*

After running through a number of presets, this synth will crash. I’ve been able to replicate this bug 4 times in the last 10 minutes of trying it out.

The sound is nice though?

### 5/5 — One of my favorite synths

*2023-06-24*

It’s beautiful and a great way to learn additive synthesis

### 5/5 — A rare and unique sonic beauty! 👾

*2023-06-20, version 3.1.5*

I really love the unique sound, style, features and design of this synth and reach for it regularly; but especially when I just want to create and explore quickly and efficiently (without getting lost in complex settings and connections). Naturally, complexity and sophistication has its place (and I love that too). However, the emphasis here is upon its unique timeless sonic qualities (which are incredible) and it’s simplicity to operate and understand. The sounds you can tease from this beautiful synth are wonderful, as it’s just so raw and dynamic (and capable of creating a broad variety of sounds with unique timbres and sonic qualities). It’s also fantastic being able to choose between original and enhanced modes (via the cute little space invader) just an incredible synth!

### 5/5 — Great Polysynth

*2023-03-20*

Not your typical polysynth, but I keep coming back because it just sounds great. Comes with some great presets too! Not aware of anything else quite like it on iOS. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — I keep coming back to it

*2022-02-14, version 3.0.9*

Sound design is a bit hit and miss for me with this synth, but it has a ton of great presets and has become my go-to poly synth when I want a nice chord sound or pad.
