Help was a non starter which was very disappointing. I kept being told that my password was wrong so when I did complete my book I couldn’t order or pay for it? After three days of trying, I now have completed, ordered and paid. I am very disappointed, saddened and some what annoyed and will probably look for another site in the future. I will say though that I am pleased with the quality of my books and that’s why I’m disappointed. ### 4/5 — A couple of issues *2023-02-22, version 2.8.5* First you seem to be only able to add pages at the end - frustrating. Then when I realised I need to set up an account, after setting up the album, the IOS system mislaid it? Fortunately this eventually appeared again after 5-10 mininutes of anguish thinking I might have to start again. I liked being able to drag and drop photos and being able to change the page layout. Allow insertion of pages and stop any IOS glitches and I would be extremely happy with the designer interface. Hope I am as happy with the album! ### 4/5 — So quick and easy *2020-08-26, version 2.8.3* Bobs book app is such an easy tool to use. I love how fast I can make a photo book from my phone. Layouts are great. Quality and colour excellent. Only wish there were a couple more layout options for portrait shots and I REALLY wish I could add a title on the spine.🙏🏻🙏🏻 then I wouldn’t need to go anywhere else for my photobooks. ### 2/5 — Unworkable app *2020-02-02, version 2.7* Had high hopes, was impressed by a book at a friends house. Glitchy UI, can’t seem to start a blank book without using the auto fill feature. Looks terrible on iPhone, doesn’t use full screen. Can’t retrospectively change theme or size, therefore need to start new book. Can’t delete unwanted books. ### 4/5 — A great app *2019-12-16, version 2.6.1* And highly recommended. Easy to use and navigate and end product is always delivered on time and to good quality. It would be great if you could create your own layouts but apart from that it’s the best app I found to create photo booms, not on a computer. Photos imported from reordered albums retain the capture date rather than the order set manually 2. Cannot tell what layouts are available until committing to a style 3. Cannot drag and drop from Photos directly into the app. Give the APIs have been available for a couple of years now this is an odd omission 4. Single long row of photos is frustrating and time consuming to navigate, made especially worse by the reordering problem mentioned in 1 above 5. Some odd and frustrating layout choices, and aspect ratios that make putting together a book more time consuming than expected. ### 4/5 — Much improved, and excellent quality printing *2018-02-25, version 2.3.1* App is good and easy to use. Best I have been able to find for the iPad. More layouts would be good, and text options; but this version is much better than it was. Recommended. ### 3/5 — Bugs *2018-02-17, version 2.3.1* Appears to have bugs. I download images but they don’t appear. Some images are inserted but then appear grey. It’s very frustrating as I’m half way though a book! Please fix ### 2/5 — App is awkward to use. *2017-07-30, version 2.0* There are some usability flaws in this app -- when you adjust the position of a photo, it's difficult to get it in the right position so that it is accepted. And you're not told if your book has blank spaces left to fill before you send it off to order. So my £23 book will look bloody stupid now. ### 5/5 — Simply the best! *2017-02-19, version 1.3* I've wrestled with a large number of so called, intuitive hardback album websites. I've invariably given up in pure frustration. Given that I'm a tech savvy old guy I fear for those from the less tech-able cohort who would love to see their digital masterpieces committed to print for posterity rather than being swallowed up by the cavernous digital albums that we all struggle to organise. This iPad app is intuitive, well set out, easy to use and above all, very forgiving if you screw up. It is plenty speedy given the task it's set. I've just made a large, hardback album in record time with no rise in my blood pressure and no outpouring of stress hormones. I'm about to fill a second album...it really is that straight forward, I'm not a company stooge I'm a bona fide new customer.....trust me I'm a doctor! Dr Mike Keen ### 4/5 — Fantastic album, app needs improving *2017-01-25, version 1.3* My Bob Books album is an absolute delight - so much better in design & quality than I was expecting - arriving just five working days after ordering (just before Christmas)...from Germany, as I was told by the extremely helpful Kemi. I opted for the hardback cover, with delightful Lustre Photographic paper...which is more like high-quality card (I maxed out at 98 pages). This makes the album far superior to the Apple and PhotoBox books I had previously ordered. Where Bob Books falls down is the app (iPhone). You need to ensure you have a decent amount of spare capacity in your phone (circa 3gb for a 98-page book)...I had only 300mb, and the pop-up box didn't give me any clues. As a result, the app continually crashed...unless I was very patient and waited for the pages to all load, and then scroll through the pages very slowly...do anything different and the app crashes...meaning that creating my album of 500-odd photos literally took days rather than a couple of hours to compile...so for me this was the most infuriating app I have ever used! There are a number of layout formats, but you have to stick to the set ones - so no mix-and-matching...which is a real shame, as this didn't give me the flexibility I wanted. Creating an Apple book using a computer was much easier, but they don't have an app yet, and the Bob Books app was the best-looking app I'd tried - but it does have a number of flaws...so I fed back a number of enhancements suggestions to Bob Books... In 'all pages' view, one should be able to click on the desired page, and be taken straight to it, rather than flick through all the pages to get to it...which nearly always led to the app crashing! Allow comments to be added in each page. The page format is too rigid - needs flexibility of changing each individual page, rather than having to use a pair of pages. Apple Books does this extremely well! Add more page formats. Make it easier to shuffle pages - and individual pages too, rather than a pair. The inside covers need to allow photos & messages.Enhancements suggestions... Use one of the other thousands of companies that offer this service. ### 1/5 — Problems adding text *2024-01-03, version 2.9.1* Unfortunately, there are issues with the app and prevent text on the spine. I have made 100s of books on my Mac but this is the first through the app. The app is very limited and has far fewer options. I called customer services who assured me they would get back to me to discuss the problem with adding text on the spine of the book and never heard anything. ### 1/5 — Poor update *2020-07-07, version 2.8.2* Latest update seems to have stopped the app working - hope for an update to fix it soon. ### 1/5 — What the hell is happening!!!!! *2019-10-08, version 2.5.1* Trying to add pictures to an album, got to 100 photos and the app crashed and everything I selected was deselected. Went through the process again, I didn’t mind this as it was nice going through my photos and reminiscing.. the second time I thought I better only select 50 just in case it crashes again, yup!! You guessed it, it crashed. I thought to myself “third time lucky” and didn’t get to image 7 and the app crashed AGAIN!! Definitely not a lucky third try. I am hoping to make my mum an album as a birthday gift and I’ve used Bob Books before and love the quality but if this is an assessment purely on the app then it’s god damn awful! I’m seeing some high praise on here and I couldn’t see it for myself, am I just having a very bad day with the app or is it going to continue to do this? I’m reluctant to continue making this album in case it crashes again and my efforts go to waste! Might consider an alternative option, but will give it one last go tomorrow when I’ve regained some motivation to try again the FOURTH time! Thank you Bob Books for wasting so much of my time that I can’t get back from my evening! ### 1/5 — Frustrating *2016-04-15, version 1.2* Just spent two hours creating a book and it disappeared. No way to retrieve it, not sure I can face starting all over again. App needs improving. ### 1/5 — Rubbish *2014-12-30, version 1.1* App does not allow you to make small sized books. Tried a second time and wouldn't let me order with a sorry an error occurred. ### 2/5 — Almost impossible with iOS *2022-04-11, version 2.8.5* This should be a great app but extremely glitchy on iOS, on both my iPad and iPhone. Keep having to log in and out as the book I’m attempting to create either freezes or doesn’t load. Can’t always view the top of the page, even when minimising the page view. It has taken me hours to get this far and I still can’t finish the book as it won’t load properly for me to edit! On the point of giving up, which is a shame as there are great reviews for the quality of these books. Maybe better if you have a laptop or non-iOS system? ### 2/5 — Quality product, very poor app. *2020-04-22, version 2.8* I have just completed my second Bob book. The production quality of the first was excellent, so I shall be very satisfied if this one is as good. However, making this book in the app was a nightmare. I selected the photos and arranged them in the order I wanted in an album in Photos. So far, so good, but when I loaded them into the app the sequence was completely randomised--and that was after taking three attempts before the app would upload all the images. On the first two attempts it omitted several, again at random. So a process that should have taken short time took several hours, because for every page I had to locate the required photo in Bob's random order. Apart from that serious glitch, the app has several shortcomings, which limit its usefulness. Unless I have missed something, there is no way to number pages or to put the title on the spine--both very desirable, if not absolutely essential, when it comes to using the book. More seriously, the page layouts are very limited. For this project, for many pages I would have liked a large landscape layout with a caption, but this was not available. The choices were a small landscape with a caption, or large without. I did look at another theme to see if that gave the required choices, but it looked to be the same. At least the final ordering process was quick--once I had reset my password. I made two attempts to enter my original password, both times checking very carefully and both times being rejected. Is Bob one of those outfits which automatically rejects passwords once they reach a certain age, without telling the customer? ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Quick and Easy *2022-10-06, version 2.8.5* Absolutely love this company. I’ve been using this company to create wedding photo books for quite a few years now, and every time they deliver a fantastic, professional product. App is easy to use and like that I can start a book in January and add to it throughout the year until it’s ready to print at the end of the year. ### 5/5 — Kudos to Bob’s Books *2020-11-28* I’ve created almost one dozen Bob’s Books in the past 2 years. I usually use the Classic, hard back lay flat format and the result is always great.staff respond to questions very quickly. Thank you Bob’s Books Continuing to use Bob’s Books as my go to photo book Company. There are many book formats from which to choose. I love the Lay Flat Books and would recommend highlighting that option.
