This is a very helpful software if you're dealing with large photo collections. It gives various valuable insights like charts on focal length or aperture used. Numbers that you would probably only guesstimate. From there, it might give an impulse for trying something new with your photography. Thanks a lot for this great work!

Great app for understanding what settings you use on your camera(s). Gee, I didn't realize that half my photos were taken using ISO 200-400 settings, or that I really don't shoot as much telephoto as I thought I did.  

 This is a great (and cheap!) companion app for whatever you use to organize your photos (Adobe Lightroom, Bridge, Luminar, etc). While those apps let you filter and search in your photos to find individual photos, this one is showing you overall stats/charts of your photo characteristics across all your photos. Feeds my inner data geek! 

Especially nice for us propellerheads: the EXIF data is exportable in both csv, and if you save photostats, as JSON, which is great if you want to use the data from photostatistica in your own geeky data science fun.

Lastly, I reported a bug to the developer yesterday.... and it was fixed within 24 hours! Insanely responsive developer.

New application and the authors are very responsive to any problems. We're using it regularly to show shooting patterns to improve workflows.

(Could do with being a little more expensive to be honest. It's current price is a bit of a bargain.)

Launch the app in the computer where you have your photos and immediately you will know how many you have made with every lens, which is the most use focal lenght, at what ISO,... From this information you can extract many conclusions on what you are using the most, how you photograph,... Study the data and you will extract very useful conclusions for your photography.

This is a powerful app that lets you analyse your photo libraray just for interest in so many ways.  You can see which focal lengths you favour or see how lazy you are taking too many shots in Program mode.  How much do you use which camera.  It just may alter the way you approach your next shoot.  Its a fun app which I know is evolving.  The early criticisms have been addressed, it is responsive and works well.

I got it to do 2 things:
1. Look at what lenses to buy with my new camera system.
2. Figure out how I shot during periods of time when I was really happy with my work.

Wonderful little utility for digging into your photography habits and seeing what your tendancies are. In particular I'm finding it useful to see which focal lengths I use most frequently as I contemplate some lens upgrades.

There's still a few small bugs to iron out, but given the rate at which they're falling and the responsiveness of the developer I'm sure they'll be taken care of shortly. Overall very polished for such a young app.

A nice to have tool and generates intersting statistics. Works with folders. Just tested, also works with current Capture One libraries (Capture One version 20.1). Important to know, photos must be included in the library and not linked.

We have successfully tested today against a Capture One Pro 20 (COP20) catalog, with images stored within it.

Please note that when scanning a COP20 catalog, PhotoStatistica will only import data for images stored within the catalog itself. If the COP20 catalog references files in other directories, you need to point PhotoStatistica at these directories directly themselves and ignore the COP20 catalog.

If this doesn't resolve your issue, please do get in contact with us – there's a contact page on our website. We don't have access to Capture One Pro v20.1 at this time – so if you could share a small sample catalog with say one or two images imported into it, that would be immensely helpful.

It's a pretty cheap app that does some pretty nifty stuff, so it's hard to be too critical. I will, however, echo the complaint regarding being unable to resize the window horizontally. It's not a huge deal on a 27" iMac, but, I mean, one of the main appeals of macOS is being able to have multiple windows and resize them all, so I think that the devs should spend some time polishing up their UI a bit in coming versions.

Only had one crash and that was when doing Y & X-Axis. Nice that CSV Export is possible which was super nice for extended manipulation of data and tables. Finally, a feature requset would be reverse geo-coding where it puills Lat, Long from all images and analyzes travel trends over the years. Would need a lot of extra work but would be great to visualize this.

The app is nice on the Mac but it doesn’t read any photo stored on iPad except if it’s on iCloud or an external disk. It doesn’t seem to be any way to get to the Photos app so you cannot get any info on your library.

This app has features described that do not exist! For example, it says it works with Photos on iPad but IT DOES NOT. And you can’t get your money back from Apple because of this. I tried and they said it’s not an eligible reason. So beware the features described here and beware of the developer who clearly is not concerned with providing a quality product to customers.

Nice idea, but it's got problems.

I pointed it to my photo library, it found 27k images and imported 20k. What about the missing 7k? Why were those not imported? What about them? No idea. It doesn't tell. How am I going to make statements about my entire library if 7k of unidentifiable images are missing from the stats?

It's way too slow to work with. Even typing a string into a filter takes forever for it to even accept the input.

It crashes often. And it loses the stats settings when it restarts.

It finds only 54 images that match my current iPhone XS, while I have 2375 in my library (as Photos.app can tell immediately). So I don't see how this app can give me any insights.

**Developer response:** UDPATE - we just wanted to let you know that we have released 1.0.3 that resolves this issue - all images from iPhones should now be found, including those in HEIC format. Also editing a filter is no longer sluggish. We've got lots of performance improvements and feature enhancements planned...so watch this space.

I suppose that I shouldn't be surprised at a product only costing £3 as you always get what you pay for. I found that it constantly hung up, even on my brand new 64Gb RAM 27" iMac. Everything just took so long to do that eventually I just gave up. Great idea but needs the bugs sorted.

Unworkably slow on a library of ~70,000 photos on a top end MacBook Pro 16". Also doesn't pick up star ratings from Lightroom, so I can't usefully filter down the dataset to something more manageable.

The useabiltiy is excellent. 
But it ist not able to read the date in my exif data, even if the data is available. 
And it interprets an empty entry in the Focal length field (in the case of mechanical lenses) as 0 mm. This is confusing. My widest lens is 12 mm and wider values are not plausible.

I am struggling to get any data out of this app. I am attempting to read mulitple types of raw files from Canon, Nikon and Fuji and keep getting results that show no data.

UPDATE - found out that this app is not reading data from external drives. If I move the folder of images to my desktop it works as advertised

UPDATE #2 - the developer has been responsive and has pushed multiple updates out since my intial review and has fixed all issues that I originally had with the software.

This application has come a long way since its debut a few weeks ago.  The author has dramatically sped it up and fixed numerous teething issues that I encountered when analyzing my 150k photo library.

The current version is commendably fast when accessing files over SMB/AFP on a Synology NAS.

I do analyze metadata in Lightroom, but I really like the CSV output of PhotoStatistica and the ease of which one may correlate EXIF data points.

I'm hoping the author continues to make optimizations to speed analysis of large libraries, and I can think of many more interesting ways to visualize, display, and output the data, but this is still a strong work with a lot of potential, and I am finding it very valuable in evaluating and curating my library.

I think it’s well worth the price.

I was looking for a simple inexpensive app to sort out my focal length use, in order to decide if I were to buy a new lens. Some recommendations were either extremely complicated command line programs, while others were quite expensive. Photostatistica provided all I neeeded at a good price in a fast running program

Die App ist grundsolide und erleichert es enorm eine schöne und intuitive Übersicht über meine Fotodaten zu generiert! Besonders die Pivot-Ansichten helfen mir bei der Auswertung weiter.
Mich interessiert oft die Komibation "mit welchem Objektiv habe ich mit welcher Blende fotografiert".

Isoliert betrachtet (nur Blende, nur ISO, nur Zeit …) sieht man ja oftmals schon im Fotobearbeitungsprogramm eine grobe Übersicht. Aber gerade die Darstellung von Kombinationen aus Belichtungsdaten macht diese App interessant. 

Ich jedenfalls habe dadurch neue Einblicke in meine Fotografie gewonnen.

Besonders schön finde ich, dass ich direkt einen Katalog meines Fotobearbeitungsprogrammes als Datenquelle auswählen kann und nicht erst innerhalb der Katalogdatenbankstruktur zum Ordner navigieren muss, in dem die Originale liegen.

Was curious about what focal length I use most often. Did a google search for an app and found this.  No trial version available but thought I could eat the $5 if it was a bust.  Just did some initial tests and two things are immediately apparent.  (A) This thing is fast and flexible.  And (B) At $5 for a Mac OS based app, this is a steal!  Was able to scan my entire Apple Photos library (>25k Images) in no time at all and do an analysis.  Plus I was able to change the parameters & thresholds of the analysis quickly.  It also has the flexibility to look at folders of images as well.  Not certain how I often I will use, but for the info I initially needed  Very impressive. Documentation is a little weak but the get started video is all you really need.

It had been kind of fascinating to me, to be able on hundreds thouhands of images to detect patterns, trends in few clicks. You see how you photograph since years. Which focal, which speed you actually use most of the time. Which lens you forgot you've been using for few months. And all the photos related to any data are instantly visible ! Deeply interesting to say the least.

The general purpose of the app is very useful. Most photo library programs are bulky, slow, and inefficient. This program is simple in all the correct ways. It gives you quick insights into a library of photos which can be used in interesting ways.

Support is great. A feature request I made was implemented super fast.

PhotoStatistica is an excellent app for visualizing data in a group of images. I particularly appreciate the filtering options to reduce the analysis to a subset of images. Be sure to watch the tutorial videos on the dev's website to get the most from PhotoStatistica.

I originally rated PhotoStatistica 4 stars because it wasn’t picking up the extra data Lightroom adds to an image (Lightroom doesn't write ratings, keywords, location data and other added information back into RAW files to avoid corrupting them, instead saving them in sidecar XMP files). I contacted the dev about adding the option for PhotoStatistica to read additional metadata from XMP files, and within a week he had added the capability. So now it’s a 5-star app!

I’ve just scratched the surface of this app at this point but can safely say that it will provide tremendous insight into your photography.   Like everything else, practice and self-evaluation is what will make you more and more proficient and skilled.  Part of that analysis includes the technical aspects of how you took a particular picture as well as composition, lighting, etc..  How could I improve on the results?  Maybe a faster shutter speed, etc.  Is there a pattern to what is working and what isn’t?

This tool brings the specifics to light in a simple visual way yet allows you to drill down for a deeper look.  The training tutorials are short, sweet and topic driven.  I’ve had the occasion to request support and was impressed at how quickly my question was answered.  

This is a “must have” tool in my bag!

This app works well and is easy to use. It scanned a folder with approx 16k images in just a few minutes. The data are placed in a database that can be saved for future use … no need to scan the same folder again. If you rescan the folder, the app is smart enough to only scan photos that have changed since the last scanning. 

Once scanned, working with the data is very fast. Graphs are created almost instanteously. Filters are applied with immediate changes to the displayed graph. 

The developer is very responsive. I heard back within a few hours when I sent in a "wish list" for additional filter options (e.g. filter by keywords).

I grabbed this app because I was curious about the focal lengths I tend to use with my 24-70mm lens on my fairly new full frame kit. I was thinking I should add a 70-200mm lens because I had this sense that I frequently wanted to zoom in more than my 24-70mm allowed. Sure enough, with just a couple of clicks and a few filters (narrow the 16k down to the specific lens and raw images), I could easily see that I have a large number of photos at 70mm. I was surprised to find a large number at 24mm as well (I didn't have a sense of wanting/needing a wide angle lens). 

Then I asked the app to filter the data to a Micro Four Thirds kit with a 14-140 lens that I have used a lot in the past. It immediately displayed a breakdown of the focal lengths (as FF equivalent values), which clearly showed I shoot frequently in the 70-200mm range when I have it available.

Exploring the data has been interesting. I feel more confident that I would put a 70-200mm lens to good use. It also has me thinking about a wide angle lens now.
