If Photrail was quitting shortly after you opened it, and doing it again every time you reopened it, this release fixes that. The cause was two trips that began on the same day being treated as one, which stopped the app during the scan it runs at launch. Your trips, photos and settings were never affected, and nothing was lost. If you turned off Trip Insights to get the app working again, you can turn it back on in Profile. Sorry for the disruption, and thank you to the person who sent the crash report that pinpointed it. ### v5.2.0 — 2026-08-28 Where next? Photrail has always looked backwards. Now it looks forward too. A new card on your Today tab suggests where to travel next, based on your own history — the way you travel, the countries you've covered, and the landmarks you've stood in front of. It all happens on your iPhone. No account, no upload, nothing sent anywhere. The suggestion isn't guesswork. Every world wonder you haven't seen and every country you haven't visited is scored on the same seven travel styles as your own personality profile, using the same offline map data: how close it is to the sea, how far it is from the nearest town, which landmarks it holds. The best fit wins — with a nudge toward places within your usual reach. On iPhone 15 Pro and later, Apple Intelligence writes the suggestion itself, entirely on device. Tap "Show me another" to see the rest of the shortlist. Also in this update: • Most climbed — a new highlight for the trip you climbed the most floors on. • Most active now blends steps, floors, calories and workout time instead of ranking on one number, so cycling and diving trips count as much as walking ones. • Both highlights are now ranked on trip totals. Day trips were winning on the strength of a single exceptional day. • Fixed: a country's coverage bar on the Places tab could disagree with the percentage on the country's own page. ### v5.1.0 — 2026-08-14 Trip films Every trip can now become a short video. Open a trip, tap share, and Photrail builds it: a real map of where you went with your route drawing across it, the places you stayed, the wonder you stood in front of, the walk or hike or ski run you recorded, and your photos. It ends on a card worth screenshotting. The map scenes are real maps — street names, water, terrain — and famous landmarks appear in 3D. Trip films are part of Lifetime; sharing a trip as an image stays free. Your Year in Travel is a film too The finale of the year recap now plays as a video rather than a still card, built from your best photos, your route across the map, and the trips that defined the year. Find any trip from anywhere Trips now appear in Spotlight. Swipe down on your Home Screen and search a country or a city to jump straight into that trip. You can ask Siri for it, or build it into your own Shortcuts. Notifications that behave Notifications no longer interrupt setup — they arrive quietly until you decide to keep them. Tapping one opens the trip, recap or map it's actually about instead of just opening the app. Your profile now shows when notifications are switched off, with a test nudge so you can check they're working. Fixes • Shared videos no longer play upside down and mirrored • Wonder photos now show the wonder, rather than whatever you happened to photograph nearby • Workout routes reach Photrail again — permission for them was being requested in a way that quietly never applied to existing installs • Trip stops are named after the city, not the neighbourhood they sit in • Returning to a city later in the same trip is now its own numbered stop • Country counts now agree everywhere in the recap • Searching for an address shows a spinner while it's working • Several achievements unlocking at once is now one banner, not a queue of them Trip Insights will also now tell you when a workout arrived without its route, and what to do about it. ### v4.3.1 — 2026-08-10 ACHIEVEMENTS AS VIDEO Tap any unlocked achievement to turn it into a short animated card you can post straight to your story. The unlock toast has been calmed down to match. A RICHER MAP - New layer controls: show or hide countries, wonders, and the areas you've actually visited, traced to real borders rather than rough circles. - Share a world poster of everywhere you've been from the share composer. - Manually added country pins now land inside the country's mainland instead of drifting out to sea. TRIPS - Tap any stop in a trip itinerary to jump straight to it. - Manual trips replace manual countries — say where you went and when, and the rest of the app treats it like any other trip. PHOTO VIEWER - Swipe between photos without leaving full screen. - Pinch and double-tap now zoom in on the spot you touched, and you can drag to move around a zoomed photo. - Fixed a bug where tapping one photo in a grid could open a different one. YEAR IN REVIEW - Fixed the photo collage showing only a single picture for most people. If your photos live in iCloud rather than on the device, nearly all of them were being skipped when picking your best shots. - Every trip now gets a fair shot at the collage, including repeat visits to the same country.
