## What is Pi?

pi is a coding agent that runs on your iPhone and iPad. Ask it for something and it gets to work: it writes and runs code in a real shell and Python, uses git, browses the web, and builds apps for you, right on the device.

WHAT IT DOES
• Runs commands in a POSIX shell with curl, git and the usual Unix tools
• Writes and runs Python, and installs pure-Python packages with pip
• Clones repositories, edits files, and commits and pushes with your GitHub account
• Browses the web in its own browser, and fills in forms for you
• Builds apps: extensions with their own pages, kept in the session's dock
• Charts data, reads the photos and files you attach, and takes dictation
• Keeps working in the background, and picks up where it left off

YOUR MODELS
Use the AI provider you already have (sign in, or add an API key), or connect pi to any OpenAI-compatible server, such as Ollama on your Mac. Small models can run entirely on the device.

EXTENSIONS AND SKILLS
pi uses the pi coding agent's extensions and skills. Install them from GitHub, npm or a file, or ask the agent to write one. You can read and change every extension's code in Settings, and pi asks before any extension uses the camera, the microphone or your location.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
pi has no account and collects nothing. Your sessions stay on your device, and your sign-ins and settings can follow you through your iCloud Keychain. What a session sends goes only to the model provider and the sites you choose. Card and document numbers wait in a vault behind Face ID.

ALSO
MCP servers, Shortcuts ("Ask pi"), sessions you can share as a file, and remote Linux machines through Crabbox.

pi needs an account with an AI provider, your own model server, or a model downloaded to the device.

### 3/5 — add custom provider support please!

*2026-10-26*

this app is amazing but it do not support custom provider! I feel I don't need cross device sync and no need of keychain protection... can you add a option to return models.json or another way..? that really helps!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.6 — 2026-10-27

- A long message in the message box now scrolls with what you type, so the cursor stays in view.
- GitHub: each device signs in on its own, so renewing the sign-in on one device no longer fails on another. After updating, your other devices ask you to sign in to GitHub once.
- Slack's sign-in page for MCP servers now shows on iPad and Mac (it was blank).

### 1.0.5 — 2026-10-26

- MCP servers: each device now signs in on its own, so signing in or refreshing on one device no longer signs your other devices out. After updating, your other devices ask you to sign in to each server once.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-10-25

- Adding pi's Home Screen widget now asks which app it shows, so a new app's widget is a tap away.
- Updated to pi 1.4.0.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-10-24

- Paste images in the message box: a copied photo or screenshot goes with your message.
- With a keyboard on iPad or Mac, Return sends the message and ⌘Return starts a new line.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-10-23

- The Live Activity shows only while pi is working and goes away when it stops, so finished tasks no longer pile up as "Task failed".
- A server address or MCP server set on one device is no longer overwritten by another device's change: pi asks which to keep. Keep this device's, and it stays this device's own; Settings lists what's kept, to sync it again.
