### 4/5 — Good content

*2021-09-08*

Good content useful sheet music and tutorials.
However it doesn’t display correctly on my iPad Pro
Some page breaks are mixed up and text is half cut off.

### 5/5 — Gorgeous with an improvement suggestion

*2019-08-25, version 6.0.0*

I love the articles, the scores and the piano learning sections.
But I would need a small improvement with the App, as the lower index appears continuously and too easily whenever I touch the screen to zoom it up.

### 5/5 — The Best Piano Magazine on the market

*2019-07-01*

If only Apple would include this magazine on their News+ app subscription. I would definitely keep my subscription, after the trial period.

### 5/5 — Fantastic Tool

*2019-04-19*

This is an amazing magazine/online help for those who are interested in and do play piano. I have recently started playing again after many years and find this a very helpful resource. I haven’t had time to fully enjoy everything in it yet but will soon. Am looking so forward to it!

### 5/5 — A fully realised digital magazine

*2019-02-22, version 6.0.0*

I had all but written off the idea of digital magazines after buying some other magazines in the past which were nothing more than a low res pdf.

Pianist Magazine has restored my confidence with its well executed design that takes full advantage of interactive digital content.

Well done guys. Excellent work!

### 5/5 — Genau das richtige

*2018-12-28*

Diese App Nacht genau das richtige- zeigt die Texte bzw. die Noten und spielt die Musik. Es gibt auch Links auf YouTube Videos. Mehr Piano ist nicht nötig. Klare 5 Sterne!

### 5/5 — Very useful resource

*2018-09-17*

As a piano teacher of beginning and intermediate students I always find things of value. The Jazz series is proving very helpful. Thank you. Keep them coming!

### 5/5 — Goldmine of knowledge

*2018-09-14*

I have enjoyed this digital magazine for several years and have found it to be a valuable resource. There is still material beyond my skill level, but it will thus continue to provide me material to use as I progress. Thanks to all the people who make this magazine possible!

### 5/5 — excellent resource

*2018-08-18*

Pianist is always inspiring, frequently just fun, and almost as educational as private lessons. Five stars.

### 5/5 — A must for every Pianist - beginner to master

*2018-04-29*

I have been a regular reader from the first printed issue of pianist to the current digital regular downloads, though admittedly with a few breaks every now and then. I can honestly say it is probably the best magazine for the learning pianist, and lets face it who stops learning?

In addition to piano I play drums, saxophone and guitar and have an interest in other instruments. This is not only the best value Piano players magazine, in my opinion it has set the benchmark by which all instrument magazines should be compared to.

There is so much rich content, the scores alone are more than worth the purchase price, in addition are the video tutorials from masters who actually know what they’re talking about. I also thoroughly enjoy the supplementary editions that focus on various composers or specific aspects of learning. And new works from both established and up and coming artists.

I am grateful that Pianist has surpassed 100 editions already. And look forward to the next 100 and beyond. That takes some commitment, which I don’t believe can be attained without some incredible passion. And once you’ve not just read, but really engaged with a few editions, you’ll feel the passion and inspiration too.

### 4/5 — Excellent for piano enthusiasts-slow to download

*2018-04-16*

Current app seems to be mind-bendingly slow to dowload an issue. This magazine is very good because of the included scores, the audio and the often excellent articles. Slow to download (even with the new app) but it is very complete.

### 5/5 — Love Pianist

*2017-09-20*

There is a wide variety of entertainment in each issue. I learn tips from letters to the editor, techniques from the staff, personalities from the featured interviews.

However, even without all of that each issue would still be worth the price of the publication if all I got out of it were the 40 pages of scores. The range of difficulty, from beginner to advanced, make these perfect for my sight reading practice, and they have become even better once the editors realized that popular song music is every bit as much music as the classical stuff and started to include popular pieces in the scores.

My only criticism is that when they publish something they call a review of pianos, it is a collection of manufacturer's advertising material, hardly a review in the usual sense of the word, and typically only of makes and models that are out of the reach of the average individual. You can read the same material in each manufacturer's website, and believe it or not.

If you are a good enough pianist to warrant the purchase of a piano costing north of six figures, you won't do it based on manufacturer propaganda. If you are wealthy enough for the six figure piano but don't play, who cares what the reviews say; it's only a status symbol at that point.

### 5/5 — Excelente

*2017-06-13, version 4.9.94*

Revista de muy buena calidad amena de alto nivel en la formación del pianista profesional y aficionado. Excelente

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — The Magazine is brilliant...

*2024-09-29*

…But the Pocketmags app is absolutely idiotic, clunky, slow and buggy. I’m actually considering cancelling my subscriptions to any magazines because the pocketmaps app is so awful. Every single update makes this app worse and worse. It freezes, it seems to seemingly delete magazines, causing me to have to download them again when you want to read them and does not make for a good reading experience... and this is on a new iPad Pro (M4 chip).
Can't believe you've got an option to delete bulk magazines in your library, yet you're forced to have to download each magazine one by one which is time-consuming and laborious.

### 1/5 — Missing landscape mode and decent print

*2023-03-18*

The missing landscape mode and a decent print and PDF export at least for the valuable sheets are slowly pushing me away from this magazine.
I use to track my practice on my own app, therefore I would also need a way to export PDFs or at least to print them.

### 1/5 — Great idea; bad software

*2022-11-30*

I was so looking forward to this publication — only to find that the app isn’t ready for prime time (in the U.S. anyway). Only two (out of approximately two dozen) attempts at reading from an issue have succeeded, because the pages won’t load properly: they’re variously . . . cut off in the middle, stretched out and unreadable, unscrollable, or simply blacked out. And there’s no help/support easily available even at the magazine’s website (nary a support mention). So I’ve asked for a full refund from Apple. Quite frustrating.

### 1/5 — Nasty Big

*2021-03-08*

I purchased a special number « Piano Techniques », but it is not displayed after download. Only the slogan of pocketmags keeps displaying. Please, fix it. This behaviour happens in IPhone 11 PRO.

### 1/5 — The App is broken

*2020-05-16, version 6.9.94*

After update to 6.1 the App freezes and shuts down. It can't be used. Please fix this issue

### 1/5 — Unable to open

*2019-12-09*

After downloading the app, paid the subscription, the app doesn't open!!! What am I paying for? Wasted $38 bucks!!!

### 1/5 — Too slow

*2014-11-04*

The download is very slow, often stops in the middle, it asks 3 or 4 times whether one wants the audio downloaded as well. The main problem is that one has to download the purchased issues again and again. Every time, it is necessary to restore the system on an iPad or iPhone, one has to re-download every issue one by one. Then every time one issue gets stuck, the only solution is to delete the app and re-install. This happens regularly, then it is necessary to re-download all past purchased issues, one by one, very slowly ... I am seriously considering whether is it worth it and I have not yet purchased the last two issues, solely because of these frustrating problems.

Update: I downloaded an upgrade on my iphone4 and I have lost past issues of the pianist. It says it has restored the purchased issues but it has not. I am definitely not buying any more issues.

### 1/5 — Shameful Incompetence

*2014-04-26*

I would call this a ripoff, but I don't think it's their intention to take money for nothing; they just didn't bother to make it work, and then do nothing to fix it. The magazines don't download. One of the other reviews says it takes days; I admit I haven't waited that long, and don't plan to. I requested help a year or so ago and never got a response. Take the money and run appears to be the plan.

### 1/5 — Doesn't recognize previous version of app or downloads

*2013-04-20*

How dumb can an app be? This new version of the Pianist does not recognize that the previous version exists on the iPad nor any of the previous downloaded issues with all their media. So you have to download again and delete the previous versions separately! There are no instructions suggesting any other way! Pianist, you can do better!

### 3/5 — Great content, horrid delivery

*2018-09-05*

Slowest downloads of any app I’ve ever used. But if you can get it, the content is great.

Despite that hassle, I do wish they would offer a back-issue bundle purchase. I would buy them all (and then spend the rest of my life downloading, lol.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Impossible not to have in any serious library

*2021-10-22*

5 Stars

### 5/5 — Love the scores that come with playing tips and recordings

*2021-03-01*

This magazine has lots of great music for all abilities. I love that the subscription includes the ability to download back issues too

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2021-02-13*

Simple - music files, videos, advice, news. Love this and helping me improve my playing.

### 5/5 — Pianist

*2021-01-27*

This app is incredible! I enjoy reading the articles but enjoy the teaching and new music at the back end of each issue, i highly recommend it for students and teachers.

### 5/5 — Awesome magazine for beginner and advanced pianists

*2020-09-18*

I have been a subscriber to Pianist for about a year now and feel that I am qualified to give a review.

There is so much to study and learn.

From a pedagogical point of view some of the articles are wonderful.

It is really inspiring to read about the various concert pianists, their backgrounds and what gave them a desire to learn piano.

The pages of sheet music are filled with great piano music ranging from beginner to advanced, and you can listen to the music also.

I have an IPad and a PC and can read/listen to the music on both devices.

From the point of view everyone who is interested in piano should consider subscribing.

PS. The publishers of the magazine have not sent me money in a paper bag to write this review :)

Best wishes to everyone. Keep well ad enjoy your musical endeavours.

### 5/5 — Best magazine

*2020-07-22*

It’s the only active magazine. It continues to inspire me and education is priceless, especially as an adult student.

### 5/5 — Excelent

*2020-05-18, version 6.9.95*

Best piano magazine and very good app. And great support service!

### 5/5 — Freezing App

*2020-05-17, version 6.9.95*

With update 6.1 the app no longer works. It freezes on startup and you can only shut it down.
Update: The team behind the app is a great one indeed. They have chased down the issue and fixed it in a few days. Now, that is professionalism. Thank you! The app now works faultlessly.

### 5/5 — Like having a piano teacher in your home!

*2020-04-17*

I recently started playing the piano again after a long break and discovered Pianist magazine. And I’m so glad I did!
The app has everything I need to learn and improve my playing skills with superb how-to lessons. I love the range of scores with Graham’s video tutorials, and I enjoy seeing what music will feature in each issue. It certainly gives me plenty of variation in my playing.
Wonderful magazine. My special treat every month!

### 5/5 — Sehr angenehme und gute Darstellung

*2019-11-23*

Sehr schöne Darstellung.Ich das Ganze sehr gelungen.
