Thanks for the many improvements, additions, and updates over the years 😎 ### 5/5 — Worth every penny *2025-08-26, version 4.98* This little app truly unlocked a world of melodies for me. As a more rhythmic driven person, I always struggled to come up with decent melodies. Now comes Piano Motifs into my life and it is part of almost each of my jams. Be it as inspiration finder, or directly integrated in the final song, Piano Motifs amazes and moves me each time I use it. I also probably learned more about music theory while dialing in motifs than from what theory I’ve read. Thank you for making it and improving it continually, you are making my musical journey more joyful. ### 5/5 — Regular and Useful Updates *2025-08-10* This app has been updated with new features on a regular cycle. I can’t think of another app that has such a track record of taking in user feedback and delivering new features. Most updates fix bugs… Piano Motifs provides more value overtime without asking for anything but demos of your work and the In App Tip jar to fund continued work. Always $4 (no sales) with $2 to add MIDI OUT and $4 to use multiple instances as an AUv3 MIDI app. Not sure if MIDI support is needed if you get the AUv3 IAP. Personally, I have tipped somewhere in the $20-30 range for various updates that just blew me away for their response to my requests and othe users at the Loopy Pro forum (was the AudioBus Forum). The developer is a regular poster there and always interacting with his customers… something few developers do because users can be difficult and not useful to sell more copies. This developer pleases his users and continues to (I hope) generate income to justify more features and fixes. ### 5/5 — Random Dice *2025-08-09, version 4.98* Lifesaver for someone like me that is allergic to music theory. Opens up a whole new world of fun. Fantastic app for all levels! ### 5/5 — This app is extraordinary *2025-04-04* Much has been said already in these reviews. The app description says it all, but when you try it yourself you’ll be amazed at it’s depth and awesome versatility. It’s a generative app, but allows a tremendous amount of optional input to shape the results of it’s output. A true interactive musical companion that can point the way and also let you lead the way into creative horizons. Highly recommended for all current and aspiring musicians. ### 5/5 — So good, I always keep coming back to it! *2025-02-02* I was lucky to have made this one of my first choices when looking for a musical app to help my limited keyboard skills, and it’s better than most of the others I’ve tried since. It’s helped me understand a lot more, sometimes by trial and error, but the results can be beautiful. The interface is clean and fairly simple, and digging deeper, you can eventually learn to aim at and achieve some great musical pieces. The options to export are many and so helpful if you want to play the midi with other instruments, although the piano it plays with is very nice. I’ve tried a lot of fancy apps, but Piano Motifs is often where I end up. Now, that I have played around with the app I think the IAPs were well worth it. The app is very versatile and allows you a lot of control over generative composition. I play synthesizer, and this is in my opinion musically one of the best generative plugins. Ambient, jolly melodies, noir or dramatic, cinematic music - this one can do it. On top of that a friendly developer who constantly tries to improve the software. Superb! ### 4/5 — Pretty awesome *2024-10-10, version 4.82* This is an awesome piano motif generator, as the name would imply, Gives me ideas to play on the real piano as well as generating cool midi stuff to use in AUM with other apps. Being able to put the melody, the accompaniment and the main section all in different channels makes for some pretty creative stuff. My only complaint is, and it’s not really a complaint, so much as a suggestion, have you considered making arrangements savable? Seems like that would be a pretty easy bit of code and I’ve come up with some pretty cool arrangements only to find that I can’t save them. Each individual section is there still but I have to write down their order if I wanna use it again. Avoid unless you want to waste your money. **Developer response:** Hi, sorry to hear you are experiencing crashes. Thank you. ### 1/5 — Deceptive pricing strategy *2024-09-12* I just bought the app. It may be good. I don’t know yet but I am giving it a low rating for the deceptive pricing strategy the developer is engaging is. If you want to use it with any other thing you have to buy both midi out and au3 as separate plugins. Just include them and raise the price to begin with. You can’t build trust with your customers when you add basic functionality as in app purchases. Use IAP for the extra bells and whistles. That being said. I hope it’s a good app, just wish the real price for basic functionality was more upfront. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. The pricing is designed to provide flexibility. Both MIDI Out and AUv3 were added after the initial release, and their development required significant time and resources. Enjoy using Piano Motifs! ### 1/5 — Cant change to next sequence without stoping play. *2024-04-05, version 4.62* Cant switch anything while playing in sync mode, Cant change root key or scale without changing the sequence. NO ADJUSTMENTS ARE POSSIBLE On the fly , WHILE PLAYING, THE SEQUENCE CHANGES COMPLETELY IF U TRY. RIFFLER, JUST TO NAME A FEW, ALLOWS ANY PARAMETER TO BE ADJUSTED WHILE PLAYING. If you have any other issues or questions please contact me at azul3dapps@gmail.com ### 3/5 — Brilliant but limited usability *2025-11-08, version 4.103* I think the developer has got a wonderful product but if you want it to respond to a set of chords from another app you’re out of luck. The only way for it to play chords is to input them directly into Piano Motifs. Response from the developer about accepting chords via midi is ‘there’s no way to do that’ - which I find odd as I’ve used iBassist which can do exactly that - granted with pre-generated patterns but those can be changed on the fly. I wouldn’t mind putting in chords for songs that use 4 chords that endlessly repeat (a lot of pop music is like that). But I have close to 100 songs that have up to 32 bars and multiple sections. And I already have those set up in another app. You can’t even copy and paste or import songs. This is a great app for you if you want a totally unique random melody and accompaniment with a simple chord structure. There’s lot of music like that, and even some of the songs I do are like that. This is perfect for those. ### 3/5 — Would like to love the app *2025-10-16, version 4.102* Can we please get native Garage Band support! I'm reducing my rating because I requested that over a year ago and no response from the developer. Yes I know that Garage Band doesn't support MIDI only but it's absolutely needed as the suggested (by the developer) work arounds DON'T WORK! ### 3/5 — Great but app crashes *2025-04-30, version 4.93* Everytime I try to edit a chord progression by tapping in the slot banks, the app (standalone or AUV3) crashes. Did not find any way to contact dev, so I hope he reads this. But a great app and if the crash is fixed, I will revise my note! ### 3/5 — Needs piano roll *2025-03-09, version 4.89* Cool app but without any visual que as to what it’s doing, it doesn’t achieve its potential ### 3/5 — Weak requirement for IAP of auv3 *2025-01-16, version 4.88* I paid the extra for it but feel like it was a bit of a bait and switch as no other app paywalls auv3 functionality. ### 3/5 — AUV 3 - what’s up wi that? *2024-06-05* Updating review after purchasing audio unit option… How do you use it in Cubasis? Instructions are barebones. Please flesh out the help pages. And as before… On my wish list are more time signatures and scales/modes. But even as is, it provides hours and hours of usable material. Oh, one more wish - ability to add greater variety of sections into an arrangement. And the ability to control volume for each channel. Addendum to wish list - ability to choose different instruments for each channel with selection going beyond Piano & guitar to strings, horns, woodwinds, percussion, voices w/o having to deal with MIDI (which I gave up on). Not sure how AUv3 would work here, but after my MIDI experience, I can’t see justifying added cost. Piano Motifs est une vraie mine d’or pour trouver des idées de mélodies et de progressions d’accords. Tout est simple à utiliser, intuitif, et agréable, même quand on veut créer rapidement. En tant que musicienne, j’apprécie énormément cet outil pour nourrir ma créativité. L’interface est claire, les fonctionnalités sont bien pensées, et on peut vraiment se concentrer sur la musique.
