## Newest reviews (16 of 43)

### 2/5 — 外放无声音

*2024-11-29*

要戴耳机才有声音…

### 1/5 — Application does not work!

*2023-03-31*

There is no sound when you run the rhythm part. Not sure if anything else works, but just asking for a refund as without sound it’s pretty useless

### 2/5 — Not really fit for purpose

*2022-11-28*

I am a teacher, and I thought it would be good to look at this for my students.

Not only is the app quite clunky to use and not particularly intuitive, the entire premise is flawed.

The rhythm matching is ok - but limited. A more holistic approach to it would help.

The pitch matching is just awful. It requires you to memorise the entire passage, then asks you questions on it. This doesn’t match in any way with the way most people sight-read music. It would be so much better if it could listen to you at the piano, something like Simply Piano, and judge that way. I don’t really think this particular method would ‘train’ anyone to sight read music. More focus on relative pitch would be good too, rather than memorising note ranges.

The whole experience is sadly disappointing and I would advise spending your money elsewhere.

### 2/5 — Sound does not work

*2022-07-21, version 2.0.0*

The sound does not work in my app, and there’s no place to send a feedback.

### 1/5 — Don’t buy!

*2022-04-26*

I read the reviews and bought anyway. I’m a piano teacher and thought I’d find enough in it across the different levels it was worth it. There’s no sound which makes it useless. Also there’s a timer on everything which I think would stress out most pupils. I’ve requested a refund.

### 1/5 — App won’t play sound

*2022-02-06*

Absolute waste of money as the app won’t play any sound making it impossible to complete the exercises.

Happy to amend review if fixed or developer contacts me with a solution.

### 2/5 — Sight reading option is locked

*2021-09-27*

I paid £5 to download the app only to find that the sight reading option is locked.

### 1/5 — Not working

*2021-07-05*

App does it work despite having paid to download. No sound from app and feedback says wrong answers.

### 2/5 — Hidden sound issue

*2021-05-08*

When I first used the app there was no sound and I searched in vain for hours to find a missing control which might restore it. It was only by chance that I stumbled upon the answer - that there is sound but it can only be heard through earphones. Ridiculous. Developers at least give us the option to listen to the app how we please.

### 1/5 — Sound issue

*2021-02-12*

I have just purchased the app. I can see from other comments NOW that this app only works with headphones. I would not have bought it if I knew that to be the case. I just assumed an official ABRSM app would be higher quality.

### 1/5 — No sound

*2020-12-24, version 2.0.0*

It needs to be removed from the App Store as it is broken

### 1/5 — No sound after update

*2020-11-12*

I’ve used this app for a couple of years and it has been great, however since the update there is no audio making it unusable as you can’t complete the first exercise. Don’t waste you money on the app until this problem is resolved.

### 1/5 — Can’t hear anything!

*2020-10-11*

Would love to try this app but there is no sound whatsoever. Even with my volume turned right up there is no sound. There are no settings at all so I have no idea how to make it work. Unless the support request I made is answered I’ve just wasted my money on this app.

### 1/5 — I can’t give this any stars even though I had to give it one to write this

*2020-09-16*

I cannot get any sound from the app and I cannot access the sight reading part. When I click on app support it says the page is not found. I am incredibly unsatisfied as I am trying to get some help for my son with sight reading and this app has cost me almost $8 and it is unusable. It’s not even clear to me how I could get my money back. I’ve written to ABRSM by email and have not had any response - I could not be more dissatisfied. Do not buy this!

### 1/5 — No sound on the new upgrade

*2020-08-31, version 2.0.0*

Hey,

The old version was brilliant. Now, I’ve lost all my progress with the upgrade and there is no sound.

### 1/5 — Only for piano

*2020-02-16*

I don’t know if it is any good because it is really only for piano. For example, it asks what fingering is appropriate for playing the notes, confusing, as I play the cello, until I realised that they were talking about the piano.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Just awful

*2026-05-17*

I should have read other reviews. I'm a Grade 3 pianist & need to catch up on about 3 years of sight reading. I'm an adult learner pianist. I had absolutely no clue how to work this. There was no help / clue whatsoever. You seemingly had to memorise music from a previous screen to answer any questions. £5.00. I'm still cross about this now. I couldn't work out the Grade 1 sight reading. So un-user friendly - utterly useless as a tool to help sight reading.

### 1/5 — Audio doesn’t work on iPadOS 18.6.2 (22G100)

*2025-10-23*

I had used this app with success with my students for years. Sometime during this summer or early autumn, the audio stopped working. It’s only needed for the rhythm match exercise, but the other exercises are locked behind the rhythm one, making the app unusable. ABRSM customer support does not respond. My guess is that there is nobody left supporting this app at ABRSM with a new OS comes out that breaks the audio.

### 1/5 — Illogical memory test

*2025-05-29*

To be frank im surprised this is affiliated with ABRSM. The ‘practices’ consist of memorising a score then answering questions around the notes, for example ‘ what was the last note placed on the left hand’ when you cannot defer back to the page. Learning music isn’t about memorising scores. Who on earth invented this rubbish!

### 1/5 — Really bad ap

*2025-03-21*

Deleted after 5 minutes. Waste of my time and money. It makes you do some music games to “unlock” sight reading? Do not call it sight reading trainer then and get midi piano connection or it makes no sense. Sight reader app with the owl is fantastic.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2024-11-18, version 2.0.2*

First game is ‘hear the rhythm’ but the sound doesn’t work, regardless of how much times I reinstall. Waste of money

### 1/5 — terrible

*2024-08-17, version 2.0.1*

sound does not work

trying to get my money back, no answer so far

### 1/5 — 游戏

*2024-06-27*

时怎么没有声音啊？用的是iphone15pro手机下载的

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-06-11, version 2.0.1*

“Please listen to the rhythm”…
Silence.

### 1/5 — PIANO SIGHT READING TRAINER

*2023-05-08, version 2.0.0*

Rip off app is called piano sight reading trainer you have to pass training levels before you can unlock the sight reading trainer level

### 1/5 — No sound

*2023-04-11*

I purchased this app with great intention. However, there is no way of listening to the sound? How am I supposed to answer questions on a rhythm being played back to me if I cannot hear it??

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Good for adult beginner

*2019-06-19*

I am early in my third year of piano lessons as a “mature” beginner, and I use this app several times a week to improve my sight reading. I wish there were an option for U.S. terms (quarter note, whole note), because I am not as fluent with crotchets and semi-breves, but other than that I like these exercises. Slightly kid-oriented in its design (cartoon characters and exclamation points) by not so much that I can’t ignore the chirpiness.

### 5/5 — Nice app

*2018-07-06, version 1.0.2*

I have purchased but when I want to download to my daughter’s device it wants to charge me again, we are on family sharing.

### 5/5 — Really helpful

*2017-06-07, version 1.0.1*

A great little app, it really helps you focus into the key areas of sight reading. Different sections for different abilities and kings of music are a real help. My sight reading ability is limited, but there's enough here to keep me motivated as I progress. I've already learnt something in one sitting!
Highly recommended.

### 4/5 — No Sound

*2021-01-31*

I had assumed wrongly that the issue with no sound was resolved. It hasn’t so I’ve just wasted money on a product I cannot use.

Update: There is sound. Just need to plug in earphones.

### 4/5 — Progress notes

*2018-04-13*

This app is excellent for extended practice. Some suggestions I would make are:
There are progress notes which appear after the third exercise, but they don’t stay on screen long enough to be read. Could the time be extended?
As a dyslexic I have trouble memorizing the notes in the Pitch exercise. Could the stave be kept in view for the question section?
Could there be a pause option in the exercises? I appreciate that in the exam, candidates only have 30 seconds but I think the option to work up to this speed would be helpful.

### 4/5 — Lovely training with games

*2017-07-17, version 1.0.1*

What a lovely app to engage the student to learn certain aspects that will make sight reading and aural easier. I just find it ghastly to work from my iPhone as it doesn't have a zoom button / landscape mode - the sight reading reward is very small!

### 4/5 — Great, just a few things

*2017-07-03*

I am really bad at sight reading and this app is really useful, just wish there were a few more things they added in, like actually listening to the piano to check if notes\rhythm right and if the answer is wrong, revealing the right answer.

Great overall!

### 3/5 — Sound?!

*2023-07-04*

I haven’t been able to use it yet as no sound. Reading through the reviews it appears that I can only use sound through headphones?! I’m a teacher so how can I work through this with pupils if we can only listen through headphones? Very frustrating as the app wasn’t free and currently is no use to me…

### 3/5 — Great idea, no audio?

*2023-03-27*

Great idea and would be so fantastic if I could hear the audio for the rhythm tests.

Please fix the bugs because I love the idea!

### 3/5 — Update

*2020-08-23*

Hi, I think this app was great before the update, I had just started with it and was making progress, I logged in one day and realised that there was an update. Now, everything I had done was lost and I think I am practising the same pieces as before. I don’t know why, but I think in the update, it just forgets recent progress. Please can you do something about this because it is quite annoying that I have to practise the same Grade 5 pieces as before.
Thanks
