I feel it lacks the musicality that Pianote provides. The teacher led courses and being able to hear and see a song being played is wonderful. I rarely have other apps open. I usually close out all my apps when not using them out of habit. This is the only app on my device that I have this issue with. I don’t know if it’s a memory leak or something else. Kind regards! ### 5/5 — Skip the games *2023-05-14* Skip the gamification apps, they’re there just to keep you paying and they do this by omitting essential pieces of information that would make your reading that much faster. With Pianote, from the very first lesson they’re providing you with the information you need to improve your reading speed and that’s a huge improvement over apps like Simply Piano. Yes this app has a higher cost, but it is real instruction and better guided practices. You can choose from Guitar, Drums, Piano, or Vocals and there are actual professional musicians you will recognize among the teachers here. Lisa is great and she’s clearly the face of Pianote (I think we can all see why as her personality just comes alive and she’s very much an extrovert), but there are about a dozen teachers in each subject and if you have questions they will answer them. I feel like this is a great app and the only thing I think it truly needs is a beginners start here section as you have to search “where do I begin” once you get in the app. Also, they have a 90 day money back guarantee, try that with any other app and they might just laugh at you. Another thing, a lot of people turn to the MIDI connected apps like Yousician, Skoove, and Simply Piano for the instant gratification, but there are genuine issues with forcing your hand to do things, because the apps pacing is driving you. This type of training can genuinely damage your hands and leave you unable to play for long periods of time. With Pianote, you do not have that issue, they’re all about proper pacing and good technique. I highly recommend this App! ### 3/5 — Potential to be an amazing app *2023-03-22* I was hesitant to get this app but I couldn’t say no to free 7 day trial. I had read some reviews where the app was glitchy on the iPad from a couple years ago so I figured it was probably fixed. Nope, the app doesn’t fill your entire screen, watching videos is very glitchy. I have amazing internet (150mbps) and the videos would just stop randomly through a lesson and just keep loading. (I’ve never once had this happen to me while streaming anything in my house) I think the app is designed well where you can follow certain instructors and learn from the play styles you like, but the app just needs to be a little more easy to work with. I’m not spending $30 a month to get frustrated with an app while trying to learn piano. I’m also not going to try and learn from my tiny phone. The tablet situation really needs to be worked out because the tablet is so ideal for piano learning. If it wasn’t for the iPad app not being optimized, I would have paid for it ### 5/5 — Go to the next level *2023-01-15, version 2.1* This app and all the instructors is fantastic. I've been teaching myself piano for years, studying books and YouTube, but I learned so much from Lisa and the team. The lessons progress nicely from super basic to complex. You can go from the beginning or jump in wherever. There's a TON of sheet music from many genres. And I like the community aspect. I researched many piano learning apps and am so glad I chose this one. ### 3/5 — Great app, but… *2023-01-13, version 2.1* It’s a very cool app, but it has one major problem that I’m running into. That is that the app doesn’t understand my piano, unfortunately it is an older piano that isn’t tuned properly and because of this the app doesn’t understand that I’m playing the correct notes. The problem lies in the fact that there’s no apparent way to turn this feature off, as it doesn’t work with my piano. ### 4/5 — Mostly really great! *2022-11-15, version 1.5.1* First off, if you’re debating Pianote or Flowkey, the simple answer from me is Pianote. I spent a year with Flowkey before switching to Pianote, and hands down, Pianote is a superior product. Pianote has a good variety of instructors, all of them very upbeat, personable, and very human about the experience of learning and playing music. There are a variety of learning paths, the most basic in my experience is Cassie’s Technique class. Another path is The Method, which assumes you have some technique and are interested more in pop music. There’s a Classical teacher and book, and there’s several other teachers with their own specialties. The videos are well done and fairly comprehensive. I’ve taken a star off due to the haphazard quality of the written support materials. Mistakes abound. For a beginning student, this could be very confusing and frustrating. For a non-beginner, it’s really aggravating to see error after error in the sheet music. Looking at comments in the sections, these errors are long standing. It’s baffling why such an otherwise high quality course would do this. I highly recommend purchasing the Pianote Planner, which lends structure to your practice routine, and helps in setting and tracking goals. It’s helped me a lot and we’ll worth what it costs. ### 1/5 — Billing support issues *2022-09-03, version 1.5.0* Be careful with this service. Downloads: Were your downloads breaking after you restarted the app? Yeah, we noticed. It's fixed and now you can hoard as many lessons as you want.
