## What is Pianu?

Pianu is not another lesson app. It is the practice tool that sits between your child's sheet music and the piano, and makes the daily half hour work.

Their teacher assigns the piece. Pianu turns it into something your child can actually practice - and makes it easier for you to sit beside them while they do.

REAL MUSIC, NOT FALLING TILES
- Two staves, both hands, the notes exactly as they are printed
- A cursor walks along as your child plays, waiting when they pause and moving on when they get it right
- They come away reading music, not memorizing a game

BRING THE PIECE THEY WERE ACTUALLY ASSIGNED
- Point the camera at their lesson book and Pianu turns the page into a playable piece
- Ornaments, repeats, both hands - transcribed, not simplified
- Import and export MusicXML, or open files straight from the Files app
- Write music from scratch by tapping notes onto a blank staff

MAKES THE DAILY HALF HOUR EASIER
- Loop the one bar that keeps going wrong, instead of starting the piece over every time
- Mute one hand to drill the other
- Slow the tempo down, then bring it back up
- Trouble spots are found for you, so practice goes where it counts
- Listen to the piece played back, so nobody has to guess how it should sound
- The library shows what was played, and when

KEEPS THEM COMING BACK
- Color-coded notes and keys, so do is always red and re is always orange
- A daily streak, and a celebration page when a piece is finished
- Your child sets the pace - Pianu waits as long as they need
- Give every song a photo or a picture cover

NO KEYBOARD NEEDED TO START
Tap the color-coded keys right on the iPad. When you are ready, connect any Bluetooth or USB MIDI keyboard and Pianu listens to the real thing.

Designed for iPad. Songs sync across your iPads through iCloud.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.5 — 2026-09-07

Pianu now works on iPhone, as a companion for the grown-up. Pick a learner, set their practice goals, and see how they are getting on. Your child keeps practising on the iPad, and everything stays in step over iCloud.

Also in this update:

Goals can now be set for rhythm reading, on any setup or a rhythm you choose.

Every rhythm tap is marked on the staff, so a MIDI piano gives the same feedback as tapping the pad.

Fingering suggestions follow printed editions more closely.

### 1.2.4 — 2026-08-31

New: Rhythm Reading. A second training journey that teaches timing. Read an eight-bar line, tap the beat, and see a bar-by-bar report of what landed early, late, or on time. Set the tempo, the note values, and the length before a run, then practise only the bars that need work.

New: Profiles. Each child gets their own My songs, goals, and settings, and the family shares one Pianu Pro plan. A short multiplication check keeps the grown-ups page for grown-ups.

New: Listen with the microphone. Pianu can now hear an acoustic piano, so guided play and training work without a MIDI cable. It follows the score to decide what you played.

New: A welcome flow. Seven short steps set the child's name, the piano you use, and a first goal.

Practice: a recorded take is now graded for rhythm, dynamics, and the marks in the score. The finish page counts how many notes were right, and eleven new artwork sets celebrate a finished piece.

Library: My songs, goals, and progress now live in iCloud and stay in step across iPads.

Fixes: a network MIDI session is no longer counted as a connected piano, one loud bar no longer mislabels the dynamics of the rest, and the buttons on the song finish page respond at once.

### 1.2.3 — 2026-08-26

New: Goals. The app now opens on Goals, a plan for the day. Pick a song from My songs or a Sight Reading range, set how many runs must count and the pass grade they must reach, then save it to today's timeline. A goal stays editable through its day, and a celebration marks the moment you achieve one.

Practice: a loop now repeats correctly over repeat bars and at the end of a piece. A muted hand keeps time with the accompaniment instead of racing ahead of its own sound. The Takes control moved into the tool bar, where it stays in reach.

Sight Reading: search My songs from the goal editor, and open a training goal straight into its own note range. A personal best now comes from one real run.

My songs: a duplicated song keeps its cover picture.

### 1.2.2 — 2026-08-23

New: Sight Reading training. Open the Training tab, pick the keys you want to practise (or a quick range like Middle C), and read ten notes on the staff at your own pace. Play the note on the screen piano or your MIDI keyboard. Stuck? Ask for a hint - first a direction, then a landmark C, then the key itself. Beat your personal best for every range.

Organize My Songs: add your own tags to songs, filter by a tag, and sort by recently played, recently added, or title.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-20

Every song now comes in levels! Pick Easy or Medium on each song card - 174 new easy versions arranged for small hands, so every child can play every piece in the library. A cleaner song shelf makes choosing simple.
