### 5/5 — Sweet app for astrophotography

*2025-09-25, version 1.2.3*

It’s way better than Threads, Facebook, IG, Astrobin, and Twitter for sharing astrophotography.
It’s also secure(can’t screenshot or download images), and not governed by an algorithm that pushes only “popular” posts.

### 5/5 — Amazing App!

*2025-07-11, version 1.2.1*

I have been using this app for a little while now and love it so far! Way more user friendly being an App you can use anytime/anywhere and easy to browse other astrophotographers. I don’t see anything else but space objects! No ads or annoying distractions. The search feature is great. When I’m working on an image and not sure how little or much I want to stretch, I open the app and look how others are doing it. Definitely worth giving this app a chance! You won’t regret it!

### 5/5 — A great app for astrophotography

*2025-04-21, version 1.2.0*

A brilliant app for astrophotography. Allows you to upload images with no compression showing them in amazing quality! Love scrolling through and seeing everyone’s photos. A great app for anyone interested in space

### 5/5 — Great Astro community

*2025-04-12*

There are other places to share Astro photos online but none is as welcoming and supportive (and free of irrelevant content) as Picastro. The app is constantly being updated and improved too, so you can really see the love that goes into it.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We are so glad you are spotting the updates we constantly add to the app. So glad to have you there. :-)

### 5/5 — No compression!

### 5/5 — Brilliant app dedicated for the astrophotographer

*2025-02-13, version 1.1.8*

This is such a brilliant app from the wonderful Tom. So many great features such as letting you see images in excellent resolution, as it should be. The difference between this and Instagram for example is night and day in terms of quality. Shows you images as they should be viewed, in glorious detail! Also an anti-screenshot feature protecting your image from copyright etc. star cards allow you to see what the photographer used to capture the image, and the exposures and amount of time etc. Just brilliant! Every deep sky imager should have this app (:

### 5/5 — Great App

*2025-01-30, version 1.1.8*

### 5/5 — Finally a dedicated social app for Astrophotography

*2025-01-29, version 1.1.8*

I’ve had the app for about 1 month now and it’s nice to see all the images and hard work other Astrophotographers worked on and there are no algorithms or ads unlike most social media apps out there.

### 5/5 — The astrophotography app the community has been waiting for!

*2024-11-24, version 1.1.1*

This is an absolutely fantastic app where image compression is a thing of the past. It’s so good to be finally able to see astrophotography images in all their full glory. Also a fantastic place for people in the astrophotography community to come together and share their work and communicate without having to worry about bots or scammers.

### 5/5 — AP game changer!

*2024-11-24, version 1.1.1*

Whether you’re into nebulae, galaxies, or wide-field Milky Way shots, Picastro is the astrophotography app to upload your images. The UI of the app is intuitive that beginners and seasoned astrophotographers can appreciate.

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2024-11-12, version 1.1.0*

I love this app! It can be so frustrating spending time and money producing Astro images only for them to be ruined by the compression on other social media apps. This app keeps them looking exactly as they should.

Give it a go and you’ll see the quality 🙂

### 5/5 — For us, by us(astrophotographers)

*2024-11-04, version 1.1.0*

A wonderful app that brings elements of Cloudy Nights, Instagram, and other socials into one forum for posting high resolution photos of our work, to share amongst other Astrophotographers and night sky enthusiasts. You have a storage tab for your setups so you can showcase how you took whatever photo you post for, without having to type it out every single post. I like to show my work, play with an open hand as to how I made the image I posted so observers can have the option to try for themselves, and also know what it took. It’s also a great way to showcase natural color images, or images made with specific wavelengths of light through filters. Wonderful app, and long overdue

### 5/5 — Amazing!!

*2024-11-03, version 1.1.0*

Tomster has put his “heart and soul” in this app and it shows! A place for astrophotographers without annoying adds, without scams, without the dreaded algorithm! Pure astro-goodness for astro nerds. For me, the pice is more than worth the quality without all the extras you don’t want from other social media platforms.

Thank you Tom!

### 5/5 — Great place for Astrophotography Enthusiasts

*2024-11-03*

Picastro is a growing community for astrophotographers and enthusiasts to share their work and provide feedback to each other. The developers are continually providing updates to make it even better and to add new features, based on user feedback. It’s definitely worth a look!

**Developer response:** Thanks so much, Rob! So glad to see you there and sharing your awesomely detailed hi res images!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Shuts down

*2025-05-01, version 1.2.0*

I get opening screen then choose what sites to follow then shuts down before I can do anything, Air2 64gig memory. Won’t allow me to make a nickname….

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-02-12, version 1.1.8*

App times out with a “no internet connection” error.

### 2/5 — Sir

*2025-07-29, version 1.2.1*

Very strange app that seems to have no direction and no communication

### 2/5 — Slightly misleading…

*2024-10-01, version 1.0.5*

No mention of subscription or pricing until after you install the app? I’m sure if you are an extremely avid astrophotographer, it’s worth it. As for me, I’m not, and it’s not. Approximately $50 / year. If I’d known of the pricing beforehand, I wouldn’t have installed it. Now I’m uninstalling it, with a slightly bad taste in my mouth. Be upfront about pricing, please..

### 5/5 — Top Tier Astro platform

*2026-07-17, version 4.0.4*

If you're utterly sick of mainstream social media taking your 40-hour deep-sky masterpiece and aggressive-compressing it into a pixelated potato, Picastro is the cosmic exhale you’ve been waiting for.

Cooked up by amateur astrophotographer and educator Thomas McCrorie, this is a native mobile app engineered strictly for the telescope-and-tripod crowd. Think of it as a premium VIP lounge for space nerds. Best of all? It completely ejects algorithms, soul-crushing bots, annoying ads, and weird AI-generated slop into the nearest black hole—leaving behind nothing but a pure, unadulterated, community-driven universe.

### 5/5 — Amazing!!!

*2026-06-30, version 4.03*

Amazing!!!

### 5/5 — The place for astrophotography

*2026-06-18, version 4.0.2*

I was sceptical when I first heard of this app, but I figured I’d give it a try. It quickly turned out to be my favourite app for enjoying and sharing astrophotgraphs from around the world. There’s no BS from some algorithm trying to persuade me to click on irrelevant stuff, there’s no politics and the images are shared in all their glory. It’s just the perfect app and I wouldn’t be without it.

### 5/5 — For fellow Astro nerds

*2026-06-17, version 4.0.2*

There is lots of things to love about this app. For one it’s the only social media app that has high resolution images with no compression to ruin what you worked so hard to create. One of the other amazing things is you can connect with other like minded Astro nerds. And you one be bombarded with fake AI pictures! So all in all it’s a very engaging and positive platform. Can’t recommend it enough. Very well done PicAstro

### 5/5 — Best way to interact with fellow astronomy enthusiasts

*2026-03-23, version 1.2.5*

This app is well structured, high quality images and an intuitive way to interact with others and get inspiration from as well

Best app for the community of astrophotographers 🙌 great people supporting each other

### 5/5 — No Compression! User Friendly

*2025-10-31, version 1.2.4*

Picastro doesn’t compress photos so you get to see them exactly as they were intended to look. The UI is easy on the eyes and even easier to navigate. There is a yearly subscription fee but it’s worth it to not see any ads.

### 5/5 — An excellent app for astrophotographers

*2025-09-27, version 1.2.3*

What can I say? A vibrant astrophotography community, full resolution uncompressed images, and plenty of other awesome features for astrophotographers.

If you are an astrophotographer, this is a staple app for your arsenal. A must have.
