### 2/5 — Lost music

*2022-06-06, version 4.5.1*

I’ve used this app for years and thoroughly enjoyed it! HOWEVER, in recent months it either fails to import newly downloaded music or worse, simiply deletes music! The developer doesn’t appear to have any type of support other than to give a poor rating. Buyer beware!!!

### 5/5 — Get it

*2021-12-03*

After all these years, still the best app for playing music in your library. Amazing how it can be so hard to create something so simple and straightforward, but this app has the right stuff.

**Developer response:** Thank you! I’m glad you’re still so pleased with Picky

### 5/5 — Finally found what I wanted

*2021-09-05, version 4.3*

I’ve been downloading alternatives to the iPhone Music app for years, always to return to Apple’s mediocre default. This is the first time I’ve been happy with something else.

- Snappy performance
- Good design with easy navigation that isn’t constantly stranding you on the “recently added” page
- The “picklist” feature is fantastic for building a queue quickly
- Cute icon

If I had to ask for something, I would love for the option for the currently playing panel to default to “open” when I launch the app.

**Developer response:** Aw shucks, I’m thrilled to hear you’re so pleased with Picky! And thanks for the suggestion, I’ll add it to my ideas list for consideration for a future update 🙂.

Cheers,
Charles

### 5/5 — Better than the native Apple Music app

*2021-08-11, version 4.3*

This app is by far superior to the Apple Music app. From showing cd covers in artist view instead of an artist picture which is usually blank to allowing someone to see albums in the order downloaded to the iTunes collection from most recent to oldest in the entire history of the phone instead of only the last 20 or so like in the native player.this app does it right! It’s worth the purchase price and you will switch to it after about a week of adjusting. I’m a big fan of this app and highly recommend it for downloaded music for picky people!! Its primarily for people who prefer downloaded content to streaming, and for this purpose its perfect. I’m hoping he expands it to include separate categories for movies, music videos, tv shows or somehow is able to merge with vlc player to allow srt files with video and uploaded through the app via iTunes like vlc player…

### 5/5 — Fantastic App!

*2021-04-30*

Much better to look at and use than the clumsy & buggy stock music app.

**Developer response:** Glad to hear you’re enjoying the app 🙂

### 5/5 — Fantastic! Find entire ripped CDs on the “digital shelf”

*2021-02-14, version 4.3*

Feb 2021 update: updated to 5 star.
I have rediscovered Picky after some time away. Not sure when search was added in a prior update, but I missed seeing it at the time .

This app is fantastic for navigating a large music library of entire albums and one hit wonders. Its my go to app to find and play all the music I own. Easy to use and does exactly what I need. Well done.

*****
Original comments:
This app has one killer key feature i have never found elsewhere (filter artists by number of songs); however it lacks search capability which limits its usefulness for most day to day use where one wants to find specific songs among thousands in the collection (especially if you dont renember exact artist or song title).

This app has one particular key feature for old school guys like me who want to find and play entire albums or CD’s in their music collection, but you want to scan the collection to decide what to listen to:

It offers the digital equivalent of scanning through the milk crate of albums or shelf of CD’s: by filtering artists by the number of songs, I can separate the entire CD’s I have ripped from the thousands of one hit wonders in my collection, to find the old favourite that hits my mood from the shortlist.

### 5/5 — The best music app

*2021-02-12, version 4.3*

Straightforward, intuitive, well laid out, clean and extremely legible UI. Very reliable, and has been getting regular updates for years and years. This is the app you’re looking for.

### 5/5 — The best!

*2021-02-12, version 4.3*

Gives me control over my music. Simple to use. Great to navigate. Flexible

### 5/5 — The last update created bugs.

*2021-02-04*

The last update of picky created some bugs that did not exist in previous versions. I hope I can explain it in words, but here goes.

When it is displaying this song on screen is being played along with the album art,The line that shows the time remaining on the song is right in the middle of the album art.

And sometimes even the title of the song displays in the middle of the album art .Not on every song but enough to be annoying.

These two bugs happen when the iPad is in landscape mode.

In portrait mode this doesn’t happen but the screen doesn’t look as good as it did before the update.

And the size of the album art can be very small or very big. Prior to the update it matched the size of the image that I copied into iTunes.

I will keep using the app however because it is by far the best one out there.

**Developer response:** Hi there, sorry about the bugs — but I do appreciate the feedback! If possible would you be able to email me a screenshot of the artwork issue in question to pickyapp@cjoseph.com, as well as what model of iPad you’re using? I’ll do my best to get this fixed ASAP.

Thanks for your patience,
Charles

### 4/5 — Playlists index missing

*2021-02-01*

Nice app that performs as advertised. One glaring omission is the alphabetical index that shows in the artists, albums and songs screens. For some reason, it is not displayed in the playlists screen. Please add this important feature!! It would also be very helpful when browsing/selecting songs to be able to know which playlists they belong to.

**Developer response:** Hi there, thanks for the feedback! Those are good ideas, consider them added to my todo list… stay tuned 🙂

Cheers,
Charles

### 5/5 — My music app of choice

*2021-01-29*

Amended: After a very long time using Picky daily, I suddenly was unable to get it to boot and couldn’t find a way to reach the developer. I left a review and the developer contacted me right away directly and offered to help me solve the problem.

He also realized that when the app doesn’t boot, there’s no way to contact him about it and made a plan to fix that. I’m impressed with his responsiveness and gave no doubt we’ll get it sorted.

Because I’ve been such a fan of this app, suddenly not being able to access it was really disappointing.

This is far superior to Apple’s built in Music app.

**Developer response:** Hi there, I'm so sorry for the frustration. I do have a support option in the app under Settings (which includes some helpful diagnostics), but if the app won’t even open then I guess that isn’t of much help. In any case, I'd love to try to help fix this and get the app working for you. If you can email me at pickyapp@cjoseph.com and provide me with some info like your iOS version, model of iPad, and number of songs in your music library I will do my best to get this fixed.

Thanks for your patience, Charles

### 5/5 — Excellent upgrade over the annoying Music app

*2021-01-28*

This is an excellent replacement for the Music app, especially if you have a large library of audio files. I have a lot of radio dramas and the names can be long. In Music, you couldn’t tell them apart if the names were similar because they were truncated to fit. In Picky, there are lists. Lovely, lovey lists. My life is now better.

**Developer response:** Thanks! Who doesn’t like a good list? 🤓

### 5/5 — Great Player & Widgets

*2020-12-11*

Been using this app for a year now and it’s great, with the addition of widgets, even better! Only glitch I found as of this writing is from the “Random Pick” widget, my uploaded artwork sometimes doesn’t load. Over all great app, thank you developer!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the kind words, glad you’re so satisfied with the app!

PS: I’ll see what I can do to prevent that widget artwork bug from popping up — thanks for the feedback

### 5/5 — Excellent music app

*2020-11-22, version 4.1*

Simple, intuitive, and does exactly what I want - enable me to manage and listen to my music without all the unnecessary garbage found in other apps.

### 5/5 — Works good

*2020-11-06, version 4.1*

Updated to iPhone 12 and my crashing problem went away. Great app

### 5/5 — Picky for the Picky

*2020-11-04, version 4.1*

This is a great little app, all you need is here with a compact design and smart user experience. Love simple, functional apps like this with a focus on what’s important and no cuteness. Support is fast and friendly. Thank you Charles!

### 5/5 — Best for Organization

*2020-10-24*

If you’re like me and care about how your music is organized, this is the app for you. It actually lets you sort by year the album was released, and not by what year iTunes released the remaster. The ability to filter by artists with, say, 8+ songs is a feature I use a lot when I want to listen to a full album

**Developer response:** Glad you’re so pleased with the app, thanks! 🙂

### 5/5 — Still the Best!

*2020-10-07*

For eight long years I’ve relied on Picky and year after year the developer continues to support it. Tons of new features have been added in that time without forcing users to completely relearn how to use the app. That alone would be worth five stars but even more amazingly is that the dev is ultra responsive to requests and bug reports (of which I’ve noticed very few). It’s highly customizable and performance is solid. What more could you want from a music player?

**Developer response:** Thank you, I’m glad you’re so happy with Picky! Here’s to the next 8 years! 🥂

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Wasted money

*2024-07-04, version 4.5.1*

Do not purchase. It ask you for .99 and only search local q. It then ask you to purchase plus for 4.99 and still can only search locally. My media files are on a network drive so I cannot access them.

### 1/5 — Has become slow

*2021-02-07, version 4.2*

I loved this app for a long time but now (on my iPhone XR) every time I tap upon the surface it's unresisting and unresponsive bleak marble.

### 1/5 — I don’t believe it!

*2020-06-18, version 3.2.2*

I have tried in vain to get an app that will shuffle all songs and play them only once during the shuffle play. This product was advertised that it does just that. After an hour or so of play, I hear the same song play again. To me this is unacceptable -as that is the purpose to pay (like I did) for a music shuffle app. Not impressed.

### 1/5 — Does not sort, period!

*2019-09-21, version 3.2*

Does not sort in alphabetical order on iPhone - the very reason for which I bought the app!

### 1/5 — Not like Pocket tube

*2019-06-11, version 3.1*

You know they said this app was like pocket tube and it really isn’t. You could download music for free from Pocket tube you can’t here.

### 1/5 — No search function. deceptive: it does not filter

*2019-06-06, version 3.1*

when you have thousands of songs and no search function that basically makes this player absolutely useless

in the app description it says “filter” but the only thing it filters on his number of songs per artist. You can’t actually search on the artist name or our name. Again that is useless

### 1/5 — Ha?

*2018-12-07, version 3.0.3*

How do you use this? How do you get songs into it? Feel like I wasted $2.99 ahh well. Useless thus far

### 1/5 — Buggy and slow

*2018-12-07, version 3.0.3*

Takes forever to load up my music library. Sometimes will not load up album art. Sometimes interface will freeze. Ocassionally will play a completely different song than what I chose.

### 1/5 — Order Playlist. Don't waist your money.

*2018-10-13, version 3.0.3*

It's incredible that a app to create Playlist doesn't show the order of the songs. When you shuffle the songs of the music library, it shows the songs alphabetically which is ridiculous and stupid!! You don't know what's next, you can't reorder your songs or delete the next one you don't like. Waisted money.

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2018-07-21, version 3.0.1*

It still operates somehow as an extension of the Apple Music app I was trying to replace, which means it brings with it most of the same problems. The only appeal is that I could shuffle albums again. Not worth it.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great add-on

*2025-02-16*

Needed an App that found my music wherever it was stored, I paid for the Picky Deluxe, only £5, cheap as chips and one that doesn’t charge hundreds each year. ( this is a one off payment). Highly recommended. Looking forward to more enhancements.

### 5/5 — Finally found what I wanted

*2024-03-13*

I’ve been downloading alternatives to the iPhone Music app for years, always to return to Apple’s mediocre default. This is the first time I’ve been happy with something else. - Snappy performance - Good design with easy navigation that isn’t constantly stranding you on the “recently added” page - The “picklist” feature is fantastic for building a queue quickly - Cute icon If I had to ask for something, I would love for the option for the currently playing panel to default to “open” when I launch the app.

Edit: Still loving Picky! Makes my music listening so much easier.

**Developer response:** Aw shucks, I’m thrilled to hear you’re so pleased with Picky! And thanks for the suggestion, I’ll add it to my ideas list for consideration for a future update 🙂.

Cheers,
Charles

### 5/5 — I guess it’s worth the money

*2024-02-02*

This is a good music player cause it automatically imports your songs which is good the only thing I didn’t like was that there was an other in app purchase call picky deluxe which I went ahead and brought to show my support

### 5/5 — I guess it’s worth the money

*2024-01-22*

This is a good music player cause it automatically imports your songs which is good the only thing I didn’t like was that I had to purchase picky deluxe after purchasing this app to download it

### 5/5 — You’ve tried the rest, now try the best.

*2023-11-20, version 4.5.1*

I’ve tried others and have come back to picky each time. It’s the simplest way to enjoy your music library and have an iPod-like experience on your iPhone.

Picky is the one

### 5/5 — Class

*2023-08-05*

Been searching for a music player that is dedicated to playing your collection (ITunes library etc). Whilst there’s some decent apps available, Picky is on another level. Really punchy audio, and it somehow sorts out those sound levels on ITunes, and keeps it consistent between artists, albums, files.

### 5/5 — Simple and beautiful

*2022-09-12*

Been getting really frustrated with Apple Music and bugs they are refusing to fix (think it’s a feature on some of them) but I digress… Instead of just complaining about it, I went searching for a third party app. I just need something for local music and cloud streaming from my iTunes Match subscription (been a subscriber for close to 10 years now). Picky seemed to be the best of the bunch. Available in my region and regularly updated by the developer and reasonably priced. I made the purchase and have been using it for the last hour and really impressed and happy. It’s like Music from a few years ago. So simplistic and basic. I don’t need any extra features, it all is here and it works! And it looks fantastic. Thank you for this awesome app and job well done. I’m happy and hoping to keep using this for many years to come.

Still loving it many months later but wanted to provide an update:

I canceled iTunes Match and found out that you can use Picky and “delete” the default app, but doing so will delete all downloaded music from your iPhone. But I deleted and then reuploaded directly from my Mac and didn’t have to redownload the default Music app. I am now using Picky all on its own and can sync from my Mac using the “Music” app with no issues.

However, doesn’t seem like you can use Picky while using iTunes Match or Apple Music if you want to get new music onto your iPhone, unfortunately.

But this saves me $25 every year now!

### 5/5 — Still the Best

*2022-03-24*

In case anyone was wondering… this is still the best music player around. I am so grateful that the developer has continued to support it for all these years. Nothing compares.

**Developer response:** Glad to hear how happy with Picky you are! I’ve been meaning to investigate playlist folder support further… stay tuned 🙂

### 5/5 — Really Excellent App

*2022-01-12*

Really useful - much nicer than the on-board Apple Music app – lots of little things for example when you look at the tracks on the album you can see more info at a glance than in the Apple app, more search & sorting options etc. too - I definitely recommend it! Jez P

**Developer response:** Glad you find Picky so useful!

### 5/5 — lost without it

*2021-12-11, version 4.4*

best music player app I've found for what I need. way better than default ios7 and more intuitive than pricier, flashier alternatives.
