## What is Piction?

Piction is a photo word game you play once a day.

Every day there is one photo, and one word that names what is in it. You get six tries to find it.

HOW IT WORKS
Type a word. Every letter comes back colored in.
Green means the right letter in the right place.
Yellow means the letter is in the word, sitting somewhere else.
Gray means it is not in the word at all.
A wrong guess still rules letters out, so there is no reason to sit and stare.

Answers run four to six letters. Most of them are six.

THE SAME PHOTO FOR EVERYONE
Everyone gets the same photo on the same day, which is what makes results worth comparing. Solve it and you can share a card showing how you did without giving the answer away.

WHAT YOU GET
One new photo every day, released at midnight where you are
Six tries, with color coded feedback on every letter
A weekly board that shows where you placed
A streak counting the days you turned up
Hints when you are stuck, and free ones as you play

FREE TO PLAY
Start without an account. Sign in with Apple or Google to keep your progress across devices and to appear on the weekly board. Hint packs are optional.

It takes a couple of minutes and it is harder than it looks. See the photo, work out what it is, find the word.

Amazing app, really had me sit for a second and think. One puzzle a day, every day, takes less than a minute to “puzzle your brain”

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.5 — 2026-09-04

Ranks now shows the score you just earned. Finish a puzzle, open Ranks, and your points and solved boxes are already there instead of waiting for the server to recount. The ? on that screen explains what updates instantly and what does not.

The share card has been rebuilt. The result grid used to be see through, so an empty box took whatever colour the photo behind it happened to be, and two people sharing the same day did not post the same board. The boxes have their own colour now and read the same on any picture. The card leads with Piction, carries the day and your result underneath, and no longer comes out with transparent corners.

A board left open overnight now tells you which day it belongs to instead of quietly refusing your guesses.

### 1.3.4 — 2026-09-03

Build 31 (1.3.4)

One fix, and it is the one people noticed.

Ranks now updates when you finish a puzzle
Play today's puzzle, then go to Ranks. Your points and your position should already be right, with no pull to refresh. Before this, the board you saw was the one the app loaded when you first opened it, so finishing a game changed nothing until you dragged the list down. That was the actual bug, and it was not the leaderboard being slow.

You should also see yourself in the list straight away
The published board is rebuilt every fifteen minutes, so a game you just finished could not be on it yet. Your own row is now put in place immediately using the score the app already has from your game. Everyone below you shifts down one, the way it will look after the rebuild anyway.

What to check
Finish a puzzle. Go to Ranks without refreshing. Your weekly points, your rank, and your row in the list should all match what the end of game screen just told you. If Ranks disagrees with the win screen, that is worth telling me about.

Also worth a look
Close the puzzle with the X and make sure you land back where you came from, including when you opened it from Ranks rather than Play.

Nothing else changed on purpose.

### 1.3.3 — 2026-09-02

Build 30 (1.3.3)

Mostly invisible on purpose. The interesting part is switched off.

What actually changed
The app now decides where to open before it draws anything, instead of drawing the Play tab and then deciding. Nothing about that is visible yet, because the setting that would send you straight to the puzzle is off. So the app should open exactly where it always has, on Play.

What to check, and it is the boring stuff
Open it cold and make sure you land on the Play tab, same as ever. Tap Play, get the board, close it with the X, and confirm you come back to Play with the tab bar. Swipe back from the board too. Open the board from Ranks and confirm closing it returns you to Ranks and not to Play. If any of those puts you somewhere odd, or leaves you stuck on the board, that is the thing worth telling me about.

Also worth a look
Delete and reinstall, then go through the front door as a guest. You should land on the board with How to Play over it, and closing both should leave you on Play with the tab bar.

Store listing
The Play description and the website no longer describe a blurred photo that reveals as you guess, because the app has never done that. Nothing in the app changed for this.

Nothing else moved on purpose. If something feels off, it probably is, so say so.

### 1.2.2 — 2026-08-13

Ranks is the focus of this build.

The board now shows your week as seven boxes, one per puzzle, filled for
the ones you solved. A points total told you almost nothing: it tracks
how many days you turned up, in units nobody can read. Seven boxes say
the same thing at a glance and make the gap to the top a count of empty
squares.

There is finally a way to play from the Ranks screen. Every button on it
used to be a sign-in button.

Medals mean places again, and only places. The bronze, silver and gold
score bands moved off Ranks entirely; they live on Stats, where they are
your own week and there is no rank beside them to argue with.

Guests are on the leaderboard for the first time. Last week the board
listed 9 of the 14 people who actually scored.

Smaller things:
- The Stats band legend was claiming the wrong thresholds for two of the
  four bands.
- A first run no longer greets you by a random handle over three zeros.
- Your Wins count now comes from the server-verified number rather than
the one the app kept, which was double counting for 17 accounts.
- The guest rank chip no longer overflows on a small screen.

What to look at: open Ranks cold, check the play button is there, and
check the seven boxes match what you actually solved this week.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-13

Weekly medals are back to bronze, silver, gold and diamond.

Also fixed:
- Your weekly score no longer resets in the hour after midnight.
- The rank card no longer disappears on Sunday evenings.
- Your rank and your best week load again.
- The sign-in screen now fits on smaller phones.
- Shared results include the puzzle number, so scores are comparable.
