## What is Picture the Sentence HD Lite?

“She is eating an apple.” What does that sentence really mean? What would those words look like if I imagined this image in my mind? Picture the Sentence is an exciting app for the iPAD designed to practice language and auditory processing tasks at the basic sentence level.

This app offers three different levels of difficulty so the child can learn how to attend to important elements of a sentence and “picture it,” attaching meaning to the words and eventually forming mental pictures without visual support. It is also an excellent choice for anyone who is trying to learn and understand the English language. **Turn the voice commands off and the text feature on, and this game can also be a great way to practice basic reading comprehension skills too!

The lite version works the same as the full version, except the lite version allows 3 users only, and targets only the subject + verb + object syntax structures.

Because these kinds of intensive listening tasks can be challenging for some children, we have incorporated a cute “Pick-a-Door” game, which can be selected at varying intervals so the user can take a break and have a little fun. Also newly added: "Pop the Bubble" game too!

Options in the Settings Include:
•Choice of color drawing icons or stick figures
•Levels include: Easy (slow, with visual support staying on the screen) Intermediate (faster rate with pauses, with visual support flashing briefly on the screen) and Advanced (no pausing or visual support)
•Text on/Text off
•Choice of subjects: Pronouns (He/she/they) or nouns (boy/girl/children)
•Sandtimer (This delays the presentation of the picture choices so there is a greater challenge to the child’s working memory.)
•Sentence Type available in the Lite version: subject + verb + object
* Progress/Data Tracker: email, save, or print the results
*Select the number of choices

### 5/5 — SLP approved

*2020-05-05*

I am a pediatric speech-language pathologist and I am a big fan of all of the Hamaguchi apps. This app is no exception. It is well designed and I did not experience any technical issues while using it. My young patients enjoy using the app and find it engaging. I love the uncluttered design! It is effective without being overwhelming/distracting.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the kind review! We're glad you are enjoying the app!

### 4/5 — One tiny request

*2018-03-16*

I like app and it fits the specific needs of a few of my students. My only request would be to make it possible to manually move onto the picture choices after the sentence is given instead of automatically moving to the three choices. I would like to have the option to have my student repeat the sentence before moving on to finding the corresponding picture. Like a simple button that says "next" or just an arrow. You follow?? Or even making your own sentences so you can tailor the app even more specific to the student.

**Developer response:** Hi AnneMarie. Thanks so much for your feedback. We actually do have a "show choices" in a manual mode for our other apps so we will definitely look at doing that with our next update. In the meantime, you can go into Settings and adjust the "wait time" so you have enough time in between the sentence presentation and the time the user selects the correct choice. In the future, feel free to email us at info@hamaguchiapps.com for any suggestions or issues.

### 2/5 — Not great

*2017-02-10*

Speech therapist recommended this. My 3 year old seems to like it and it is good practice for him. But there are problems.
Interface exemplifies buggy, lazy coding.
Non-universal app. (You'd need to buy it separately again for iPhone.)
Pretty limited in content. This is the lite version and should have been a freebie.
Ugly, uninspired UI.
I'd be willing to pay well for a polished version of this.

**Developer response:** Dear Mitch177. No sure what issues you are experiencing with it being "buggy" or why you are describing it as having "lazy coding". Can you please send us an email at info@hamaguchiapps.com? We'd be happy to troubleshoot as we have not had reports of crashing with this app and it was updated fall 2016. The content is indeed simple in design on purpose as many of the children who use this app have autism spectrum disorders and need an uncluttered visual field. While it may seem "uninspired" it is actually driven by careful research and 35 years of experience working with this population. While I'm sure it would be wonderful for you to receive this app for free, we are a small private company and have to pay our programmers and artists as they don't work for free. The amount of content on this lite app rivals many that cost much more so we feel 99 cents is a great bargain it! That said, we're sorry it didn't meet your expectations. ### 5/5 — Great for kids with auditory issues

*2012-11-11, version 1.3*

My daughter has auditory processing issues and this app does a great job of cueing with pictures to challenge her auditory skills. A great learning tool for a child with any kind of delay!

### 4/5 — Picture the Sentence Lite

*2012-11-06*

This is a great app for kids who are working on understanding and constructing sentences. Also good for pronouns, too! My only complaint is that the pictures don't exactly match from the instruction to when the kids has to choose from the pictures on the bottom. Overall, I think it's a great app!

### 4/5 — A great LITE app

*2012-11-06, version 1.3*

This is a great app, especially for being lite. It has subject + verb +object sentences and really makes the student listen. Based on this version, I will surely buy the full app.
