### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2012-10-30*

This is a wonderful app! Looking for an app to help with concentration, memorization, planning, this is it. You have so many options on how easy or difficult to make it. It starts off giving you the sentence, verbally and with pictures if you choose and then it gives a small break and then you have to pick the picture of the sentence that was given a moment ago. Awesome app! My son loves the pick the door game after he completes a level.

### 5/5 — Another great app

*2012-10-26, version 1.3*

Great app for individuals with special needs. Have used this app with primary age students to adults.

### 5/5 — Picture prefect

*2012-10-20, version 1.3*

What a lovely app. The child does exactly what the title says - picture the sentence. The picture part with the sentence part is great. Wait time so the idea can be processed before being next task is a great option. This app touches on many skills in a fun and educational way.

### 5/5 — thank you!!

*2012-10-17, version 1.3*

someone hits the nail on the head so to speak on what my child really needed work on!! she loves this and i had to tell her to put it away for the nigth or she would have "played" all night!!! keep up the good work hamaguchi!!!!!!

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2012-10-17, version 1.3*

I really like this app. I like how the individual words are pictured and then the sentence is depicted in an animation. My students really like this app!

### 5/5 — solid app helpful in a lot of ways

*2012-10-16, version 1.3*

my son and daughter both have severe autism. I like this app bc it helps focus on the child understanding what the sentence is saying not just dragging and dropping for a correct answer. The lite and full versions both feature great content. This app can also be used to help support typical kids who may have deficiencies in language arts and parts of speech.

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2012-10-16, version 1.3*

This app is great for teaching children many different concepts! While you can target auditory comprehension with visual support, you can also help teach pronouns, varying verb use, and word order of simple sentences. The varying levels of difficulty are also beneficial to help children advance from one level to another while continuing with similar concepts. I love Hamaguchi apps!

### 5/5 — Language Development at its best

*2012-10-15, version 1.3*

Excellent app for language development and cognative recall. Settong for various users.
Hamaguchi hitt a homerun with this app. The countdown between the task and the conclusion helps your child with their memory. Clear photos and verabal instructions are right on cue. Excellent app all around.

### 5/5 — Picture the sentence

*2012-10-14, version 1.3*

By: Papadiz

Another well done app by this developer. There are levels of difficulty that will keep children interested. It's great for the teacher/ parent to view progress. App ran as expected with no glitches.

### 5/5 — Another great app for early elementary

*2012-10-14, version 1.3*

At first this app seemed much too slow and would have been difficult to hold the attention of some children, but with changes in the settings, parents can get it to move faster, change the difficulty of the sentences and more! Another great Hamaguchi app!

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2012-10-14, version 1.3*

This app really is adaptable for many skill levels. I like the fact that there is a wait period between the individual pictures and the choices so students really have to hold on to the words they heard and pictures they saw to pick the correct choice.

### 5/5 — Love this!!

*2012-10-13, version 1.3*

What a great app for encouraging visual and auditory comprehension. Track users progress and change difficulty levels are awesome features. Very impressed with all the hamaguchi apps.

### 5/5 — Multimodal

*2012-10-13, version 1.3*

What a great app for decoding auditory and visual information. Great tool to use for memory and processing disorders. I am impressed with Hamaguchi's products.

### 5/5 — Another Home Run from Hamagachi!

*2012-10-12*

This app is wonderful in its simplicity. There are complete, clear & concise instructions on how to use the app and how to adapt the app to the student/child. This app can be used with more than one student/child, the progress can be tracked then emailed. This app employs the use of pictures to help increase the expressive & receptive language skills and helping the student with their cognitive thinking processes, auditory processing skills and their visual skills. Children can take the concepts of the individual words as shown with the pictures and apply them to another picture that sums up the sentence. If the child chooses wrongly, there is no judgement associated with the incorrect choice, just another chance to choose again. When the correct picture is chosen the sentence is spoken again. Well thought out and very engaging. Highly recommend this app!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Slow and unexciting!

*2013-02-24, version 1.3*

Bought this to teach my pre-school age son and it does not keep his attention. It's slow and mono toned without much excitement when he gets it right. Then you wait for the next sentence.

### 1/5 — worst

*2011-12-27, version 1.1*

This is the worst one I ever purchased. I wish I could get the money back. This software is very slow, and there is no proper guidance to the kids to play. sound is not good.

### 1/5 — Loved the Following Directions Apps

*2011-12-20*

I loved the others so I thought that I would try this one! Not a favorite and I will probably never use it again. In between the statement and the selection choices, there is an hourglass. It takes forever!!!!! I thought at first this was good because it allowed time for processing, but it turns out to be very distracting! It takes way too long and one of my kids actually kept saying "loading loading loading" over and over again! Disappointed! I highly recommend the Following Directions and "More Following Directions." They get 5 stars!

**Developer response:** Hi Mandee's Music. While your review is 6 years old, Apple is just now allowing developers to respond to them. We are happy that you like the Fun with Directions/More Fun with Directions but we wanted to address your comments about Picture the Sentence so that future users are aware that the "hourglass" that you are describing is completely customizable. The user can have that "wait time" set to any number of options including NO WAIT TIME at all. In other words, without the sandtimer the child hears the prompt (e.g. "The boy is eating a carrot under the bed") and immediately sees the picture choices if desired. It's all in the settings. The purpose of it is to allow the therapist and student to use strategies for remembering what was heard (repeating back, visualizing, etc) before seeing the choices. This builds auditory memory. The longer the wait, the longer the working memory holds on to the information. Go into the settings and you will see these options. Thanks, The Hamaguchi Apps Team

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2012-01-09*

I was excited to get this app since a lot of my kiddos need practice listening to sentences of varying complexity and extracting meaning, which is exactly what this app claimed to do. I understand the idea behind the extra processing time, but even when turning it to off, the presentation is still extremely slow. I would like the option to have the speech read in real time. In addition, I wasn't aware before buying the app that there is no data collection option and that this company doesn't plan on offering it with any of their apps to keep the apps they have affordable. Finally, the picture choices move, and many times my kids struggle dragging the picture to the box.
I will still use this app, but would not have bought it if I had known the aforementioned items in advance.

**Developer response:** Hi SLPLaura. While it has been over 5 years since you posted this review, Apple is just now allowing developers to respond to them. Thanks for your feedback. Please know that even though we couldn't respond to them, we did read them! As you probably know from the updates, we in fact added data collection to our apps, including Picture the Sentence, due to user requests, many years ago. The issue with the narration speed that you mentioned is also relative to the level you select. There is an easy, intermediate, and advanced level. The narration rate increases with each level. We hope you found that in the Settings and are still using the app. The Hamaguchi App Team

### 4/5 — Cool

*2012-11-06, version 1.3*

This is a cool app! I think this is great for special needs as well as PK-1st grade kids. Many children have a problem forming a sentence. This will provide them with the visuals that they need to really understand what they are doing!

### 4/5 — GREAT APP

*2012-10-17, version 1.3*

This is another great app from Hamaguchi. It will definitely help my boys with their auditory processing skills, cognitive skills, and visual skills. I especially like the way this developer has options, you can change the visual, you can change the speed, you can set the choice of subjects and sentence format. This will be useful for both my boys who are in very different skill sets right now. Thank you Hamaguchi!!

### 4/5 — Phrase and meaning reinforcement

*2012-10-14, version 1.3*

The language picture matching is a great reinforcer for not only using language appropriately and understanding grammar, but provides an easy tool for students to demonstrate they understand the components of language.

### 4/5 — Nice App for Memory Skills

*2012-10-13*

This is a nice app for working on auditory processing and memory skills. I love the colorful pictures and the ability to customize to fit individual needs. The reward game for answering correctly is also a nice touch. I would love to see the option to choose the number of answer choices separate from the difficulty level. It would also be great to have the the option to select answers by just touching rather than dragging and dropping.

### 4/5 — Great Little App

*2012-10-12, version 1.3*

Nice little language building app. I can see value in using it for language development for my students. Good visual reinforcement.

### 4/5 — Good Language App

*2012-10-11*

This is a good app to use with young children with developing language Simple sentences are given for the child to remember and match to a picture. Good for teaching pronouns and prepositions. Some of the voices are annoying, but all in all it a good app. I like that there are a variety of difficulty levels to choose from. I would like to see the activity move to the next sentence without having to manually advance to it.

### 5/5 — Great format for kids

*2025-02-27*

This was a good buy for only $10 ! The format is simple but interesting enough for kids and they get rewards and “prizes” when they do well, making it extra fun for them! It does not feel like work. My grandson heard “sentence” and was wary but was totally fine and stayed focused with this. The choice of different skill levels is very good and helpful too.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2025-02-26*

Love the new updates. I use this app for receptive language and auditory processing.

### 5/5 — Great job on the updates!

*2025-02-24*

I’ve been using this app for about 5 years with my speech therapy kids and wanted to thank the developer for adding the option to choose the subjects more specifically ( he, she, they, boy, girl, children). I had always wished I could do that! Also love that the user can select the number of choices. More motivating how the correct answer pops out now. Great job on this unique app! Thanks also for not pushing a subscription and just having a one- time fee.

### 5/5 — Great for auditory processing and memory retention!

*2013-11-20*

Picture the Sentence HD is another great speech language app from Hamaguchi! Because it is fully customizable and has scaffolds learning to increase competence, it will provide many different opportunities to work on auditory processing and memory retention skills. I highly recommend reviewing the Q&A to get the most out of the app. users will enjoy the door game as a break/reward or to work on turn taking. with an assortment of sentence types and data tracking, this program is very versatile. I highly recommend this app for parents, therapists or educators wanting to work on these skills.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2013-05-02*

This app is great! I have found it really useful with one of my patients because it helped me realize how much help he requires to remember information. We are currently at the hardest level and it has been a big help with this patient. I like that the app does not advance to the next sentence until you want it to and I like that the developer included a good info page with instructions on how to use the app. Also, I love having all of the different settings. Great job again Hamaguchi!

### 5/5 — Very cool

*2013-05-01*

I love this app. After reading the Q&A in the info section I really understood how to use the app and I think everyone should read it before they start. The different settings are great and the door game can be used as a good turn taking break in between the activity. Great for discussing with your kids what it means to picture the sentence in your head.

### 5/5 — Wow, this is awesome!

*2012-11-12, version 1.3*

This app has so many features that can be customized for each individual student/child. The progress monitoring capabilities make this app a MUST have for all educators/teachers/parents of children! Thank you for creating meaningful, engaging and high quality apps for children!

### 5/5 — Excellent, excellent, excellent!

*2012-11-04*

The app does just what the description says! It's user friendly, easily customizable, and engaging for students to use. Students will gain language and auditory processing skills while using this fun app. The speech therapist or teacher could track as many as 15 students, which makes data collection a breeze. Highly recommend this app for building sentence writing skills!

### 5/5 — More than just sequencing

*2012-11-01*

Picture the sentence is a highly customizable app that really has the potential to challenge users of varying skill levels. This app makes the user take time to process information to make an appropriate choice. As with all Hamaguchi apps, the app is easy to use and has bright graphics and clear audio. I would recommend this to teachers , therapists and parents alike.
