### 1/5 — Message list

*2019-03-01, version 1.0.9*

Unable to view the message list...what am I doing wrong

### 1/5 — Pathetic service

*2019-01-28, version 1.0.9*

I used this camera for a year without problem but recently the ap quit working- I contacted the manufacturer and they will not respond. I tried their other ap and the WiFi connection instructions do not make sense - they tell you to use settings on your iPhone that don’t exist.

Glad I had it for a year but without the ap you cannot view anything so what good is it?

Very disappointed in the product and company.

### 1/5 — App not up to date

*2018-12-01, version 1.0.9*

Please fix it. You can’t add or do anything with the cameras

### 1/5 — Waste of time and money

*2018-11-27, version 1.0.9*

The dame thing doesn’t work spent almost 2 hrs trying to set up camera and nothing no customer service either

### 1/5 — I would give it a 0

*2018-11-12, version 1.0.9*

Worked ok for about 8 month. Now Only can look at the cameras if you are hooked up to the Wi-Fi in your own house ! What good is that ! call & email tech support. And they are no help. So now I own cameras that I have to replace!

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2018-09-30, version 1.0.9*

The app is outdated and they refuse to fix. You reach out to customer support and they say they are working on it but never actually do anything with it. I can’t update the time/date on my camera and it doesn’t let you update the firmware on your camera through the app. It just keeps crashing.

### 1/5 — Ugh.

*2018-09-27, version 1.0.9*

The app is atrocious and always crashes. Took forever to set up the camera itself. Still have not been able to update the firmware or turn on notifications. Terrible

### 1/5 — Save your money!

*2018-07-29, version 1.0.9*

Spend a little more and get something good. I have tried and tried to get motion detection to work but most of the time the cameras don’t even work. Waste of my money! You get what you pay for!!

### 1/5 — Worked great.....at first

*2018-06-16, version 1.0.9*

Then suddenly it’s always offline. After countless attempts, it continues to fail. I’ve tried everything. Last resort, I unplugged them all and bestowed them to the goodwill. However, they should have been thrown in the trash where they belong....

### 1/5 — Cameras were good but then...

*2018-05-16, version 1.0.9*

Cameras were good, easy to set up and use. I had them to monitor ill and recovering horses. Then one day I could not log in. I called customer service, the app is being “serviced”. Called again next day... the servicer of the app is in Taiwan and they have no idea if or when the app will ever work again. These cameras are my horses life line. They are very important. This app is a scam and does not work at all and should be removed so no one else gets screwed as I have been the past few days u able to use the app. Now I have to start over and buy a whole other set of cameras from a different manufacturer.

### 1/5 — Can not register

*2017-12-31, version 1.0.9*

Would not allow me to register. Will not accept password. Returning it.

### 1/5 — Ick

*2017-12-30, version 1.0.9*

One star is unfortunately the lowest I can give. Trash. Don't buy. Spend more and get more. DON'T count on this product to give you security or safety.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money

*2017-12-20, version 1.0.9*

Motion sensor doesn’t work at all. There is no server available to give push notifications. It doesn’t record constantly it only records if you have the app open. If you try to leave the app it automatically closes and won’t run in the background and stops the recording. The app crashes when you try to update the firmware. I think the hardware is probably pretty good but the app and software is crap and from what I’ve seen from other reviews it’s been that way for quite a while. Most likely made by some tiny company just to make a quick buck and screw people out of money. I strongly don’t recommend this product.

### 1/5 — Terrible.

*2017-12-10, version 1.0.9*

I follow the instructions exactly, but could not get past step four of “connecting to Wi-Fi.“. The app kept crashing after saying “connecting” for about two minutes. I tried the app on the iPad and had the same result.

### 1/5 — Avoid!

*2016-10-30, version 1.0.9*

Absolute garbage. First camera wouldn't connect to wifi kept saying connecting and then app would crash. Exchanged for a new one and now same thing. Going back for good. Avoid!

### 1/5 — Don’t Bother

*2016-10-23, version 1.0.9*

Unfortunately if you are reading this then it most likely means you have already purchased this thing. If it’s unopened, stop here and save your time, and just return it.

Luckily I got this as a gift so I’m not out of pocket on this. But when I first got it, I couldn’t get past the create an account screen, the app would just hang and nothing would happen. So in the closet it went.

Now I’m going on vacation for a couple weeks and decided to dust it off and try it again. I got the account created. Which forced me to turn on push notifications (like all classy apps tend to do /s). I also got the camera connected to my wifi (know this because the firmware update seems to be talking to the camera), but It didn’t want to connect to the 5g network, so I had to connect it to the 2.4g network. I couldn’t find specs in the bulimic instruction booklet to know if it will support a 5g network, but the app didn’t hang when I connected it to the 2.4g network.

And... no image comes up. Telling me that the camera is not connected.

So I am trying to update the firmware, the camera clicks and beeps, while my phone has a spinning wheel telling me it is “Updating" (no other info on the progress). After about 5 minutes of this, the app suddenly crashed out and went to my home screen. Still no image coming up, so I started the update again. It’s been over 15 minutes now. The app say’s it is still updating, and occasionally the camera clicks, beeps and the lights flash, but nothing.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Does this app and camera actually work?

*2021-11-30, version 1.0.9*

I never really write reviews. I really never write bad reviews but I felt like I had to say something on this one. It has frustrated me so much so many times trying to hook these cameras up or just even make an account to be able to use the software. I have an account I was able to make a while back but I cannot sign into it I cannot change the password it won’t let me make a new account under a different email. I bought 10 of these and I haven’t been able to use one of them not one time. I am fairly goodWith technology and this has been just absolutely ridiculous. If you want to save yourself the headache steer clear

### 1/5 — Can’t make and account or login

*2021-10-07, version 1.0.9*

I had an account awhile ago then moved. Restarted the device and app and cannot login or create a new account. Please help!

### 1/5 — It was good!

*2021-10-07, version 1.0.9*

Really it was good but now zero. No response from the customer service. Cameras stopped working as the online system is defaulted and there is no link working for their servers. Can’t login and register. Perhaps company gone with the wind.

### 1/5 — Help me

*2021-05-20, version 1.0.9*

The app won’t let me register, help!!
What are the password parameters????

### 1/5 — Pure junk!

*2021-01-31, version 1.0.9*

No support. App is junk. If you want to waste time and money then this is the perfect setup!

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2020-12-10, version 1.0.9*

The APP doesn’t work. Says “wrong username or password” won’t login.

### 1/5 — App no longer works on Apple devices!

*2020-11-23, version 1.0.9*

Just spoke to tech support at Pilot GuardCam. They told me this app no longer works on Apple devices. I guess the camera and app are useless!

### 1/5 — Dead?

*2020-02-02, version 1.0.9*

Suddenly my account appears to be gone and can’t log into the app at all. Says “account does not exist” if I try the Forgot Password. Tried to create a new account under a different email and it fails. Is this app completely dead now??

### 1/5 — App abruptly closes when attempting to Register Camera to Wi-fi

*2019-11-12, version 1.0.9*

Could never get this camera to connect. Followed instructions exactly. Called support they recommend to connect to the 2.4G wi-fi Still did not work. Made sure Router had no device connectivity restrictions. We even traded for another Camera.. same thing there’s got to be wrong with App... Junk we are out $70 for this piece of crap!!!

### 1/5 — Worst WIFI cameras ever

*2019-07-23, version 1.0.9*

Absolutely the worst cameras ever. App is terrible constantly crashes. Cameras won’t stay connected to the network if you can ever get them to connect in the first place. But cheap Chinese cameras on EBay. They never fail. Do not buy Guardcams.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Back in business!!!!

*2023-05-15*

After almost a decade my camera is back online and working!!! Thank you Pilot for staying true to the customers!!!

### 5/5 — Working perfectly

*2018-08-29, version 1.0.9*

Bought two cameras, first hooked up easily in minutes. Couldn’t get second one online, so called the toll free number on the website. The tech advisor made some good suggestions, then walked me through setup again. Viola! It’s working now. Got motion detected recordings of my dogs in the house so I was able to see which one was peeing inside. Perfect!

### 5/5 — Cam works great

*2016-09-09, version 1.0.9*

We have 3 of these cams. They ran perfectly of our 2.4ghz Timewarner service. These will not work if you are on your 5.0ghz.
great cams and very helpful customer service over there.

### 4/5 — It actually works!

*2016-04-21, version 1.0.9*

Didn't have the issues some people had with setting it up. No issues connecting, but initially the motion detection wasn't working. That was the most important feature so I was very frustrated. All of a sudden after 2 days now the motion detection feature is working great and I'm getting the notifications on my iPhone. I tried the microphone feature - which worked fine - totally freaked the dog out with that one! All in all its actually working really well!

### 4/5 — Great, after the upgrade

*2016-04-09, version 1.0.9*

Wouldn't work at first because it wouldn't connect to wifi. Hooked up to the Ethernet cable and did the upgrade that's offered. Once I went back to wifi, worked just fine. Love it now. Good purchase, just make sure to do the upgrade!!

### 3/5 — Quirky Device

*2016-12-04, version 1.0.9*

I purchased the guardcam CL-4000. I've spent the past month discovering the following quirks:
1. Turns out the CL-4000 only works on the 2.4GHz frequency on wireless routers. Nothing in the printed setup instructions tells you this (that I could find). I found this out after calling customer service.
2. I had trouble getting the two-way audio speaker function to work properly (between the camera and my mobile device). I again called customer service. I was told the two-way audio feature was only available on the CL-4001. I explained to the gentleman that the CL-4000 box clearly mentioned a 2 way audio capability. He reiterated: two way only available on CL-4001. I got ready to return my guardcam to the store. Tried 1 last approach (and this was KEY!): to use the audio function from your smart phone, you have to press AND HOLD the microphone icon a few seconds before you speak, while you speak, and a few seconds after you speak. Think of it more as an old school intercom switch- much like the security intercom speakers you find in some condos (think Seinfeld).
3. Checking in on my place from my smartphone over different WiFi networks where I live is hit-or-miss. Not reliable at all. I haven't been able to pinpoint why it works some of the time, and not other times. When I can't get it to work over WiFi, I turn off my smartphone WiFi and use cellular data. That works almost all of the time. Almost.

Overall, the guardcam CL-4001 was a bit of a headache to set up and get running. The app is ok. When the app and camera do work together, things are pretty good. The audio from the camera is loud enough and the picture quality is sharp enough. Night vision is not bad. All in all, it works just often enough, and just well enough to prevent me from going through the hassel of returning it.

### 3/5 — Guard cam is awesome but it has issues.

*2016-05-03, version 1.0.9*

My camera came in the mail today so I went home on my lunch break and got it set up. Took me less than 10 minutes to start watching a live stream of my living room. Really clear picture. I turned on the motion detect settings (maximum/most sensitive everything) and expected my phone to blow up from all the notifications since I was waiving my arms around like an idiot in my living room but... Nothing. I then tried to record from my phone (after installing a microSD) and review myself doing jumping jacks and.... Nothing was saved to remote recordings. It did take still shots and did PTZ really well.

I'll keep it another week.

### 3/5 — Works ok

*2016-04-01, version 1.0.9*

Couldn't get wifi to connect, but for my use I'm using hard wired cat5 connection anyway. Quality is ok. Needs zoom function.

### 3/5 — Pilot guardcam

*2015-11-23, version 1.0.9*

Just purchased 6 cameras 2 are the pan and tilt they are very easy to operate I added the 32 GB so that I can record so far so good.

### 2/5 — Definitely has Pluses

*2016-08-28, version 1.0.9*

But taking 15 seconds to load on the app is not acceptable. I get a motion warning then wait so many LONG, LONG seconds before I get to see what triggered the warning.
