## What is PilotBound?

Most flight training tools were built for working pilots. They assume you
already know what FAR 61.109 is, and what training really costs. PilotBound
was built for the years before that, when you're still figuring out the path.

PilotBound gives you a personalized plan from "I want to fly" to "checkride
passed," then tracks your hours and your money against it the whole way.

YOUR PLAN, START TO CHECKRIDE
    • A step-by-step roadmap built around your goal and where you start today
    • Four stages: Decide, Prepare, Train, Checkride
    • Pick your path, estimate the cost, and plan how you'll pay
    • Discovery flight, choosing a school or instructor, medical, student
certificate, ground school, and gear, in the right order
    • First solo, first cross-country, the written, and the checkride,
      checked off as you go
    • Plain CFI guidance on every step: what to do, what to skip, what to watch

KNOW YOUR REAL COST
    • Cost projection from your aircraft, instructor rates, and region
    • Live total of what you've spent, what's left, and where the money went
    • Per-aircraft costing: a Cessna 152 and a Cirrus track separately
    • One projection per certificate: Private, Instrument, Commercial, CFI, CFII, ATP
    • Sharpens with every flight you log. Your number, not a national average

KNOW WHERE YOU STAND
    • Every Part 61 or Part 141 requirement, completed and remaining
    • Hours toward Private, Instrument, Commercial, CFI, or ATP
    • Milestones detected automatically: first solo, first cross-country, first night
    • Training momentum, visible at a glance

LOG EVERY FLIGHT
    • Every FAA field: PIC, dual, solo, cross-country, night, instrument,
      approaches, landings, holds
    • Costs pre-filled from your aircraft and instructor rates on every flight
    • Your training data stays private

Built for student pilots learning to fly. Whether you're deciding to start,
working through Instrument, or earning Commercial, your plan, your hours, and
your cost live in one place.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5 — 2026-08-26

Track what your certificate will really cost, and stay on pace to finish it.

NOTIFICATIONS

PilotBound can now reach you when something actually changes. Get a heads up when your training pace slips, so a short gap does not quietly turn into a long one, and see your projected cost without opening the app.

A couple of messages at most, never a daily reminder, and you can turn them off any time in Profile.

ALSO IN THIS RELEASE

Your Home cost card now shows the likely range around your projection, not just the single number.
The cost trajectory starts where your spending starts.
Cleaner training status markers across the app.
Fixed a money formatting bug that could drop a digit.

### 1.4 — 2026-08-19

NEW: FUNDING TAB
Add your training loan, savings, scholarship, GI Bill or family money, then mark each flight or expense as paid from it. PilotBound shows how much you have left to draw, whether it covers what is still to go on your certificate, and how long it lasts at the pace you are flying. Balances are principal only, based on the terms you enter.

COST
The trajectory chart now starts where your spending starts, not at signup. Break spending down by aircraft. Adjust your per-hour rate inline from Home or Cost.

PLAN
Tracks the CFI and CFII Fundamentals of Instructing written separately, handles ATP time building, and reconciles the plan estimate with the Cost tab so the two never disagree.

ALSO
iPad layouts now use the full width. Status markers were refreshed throughout.

### 1.3 — 2026-06-23

• A step-by-step plan from your first decision to checkride day, built around your goal and where you're starting
• Four stages, Decide, Prepare, Train, Checkride, with plain CFI guidance on every step
• Your cost estimate and FAA requirements now live right inside the plan
• Design polish and bug fixes throughout

### 1.2 — 2026-06-03

The biggest update since launch: PilotBound now projects what your certificate is going to cost, and tracks every dollar against the number as you train.

NEW: COST TO CERTIFICATE
• Live cost projection from your aircraft, instructor rate, and region
• One projection per certificate: Private, Instrument, Commercial, CFI, CFII
• Set a budget and get an "Over budget" warning when the projection crosses it
• What-if pace slider shows what flying more or fewer hours a week does to your total
• Per-aircraft costing (a Cessna 152 and a Cirrus track separately)
• Cumulative spend chart and lifetime equipment tracking
• Share a cost card after your checkride. Your dollars stay private unless you include them.

NAVIGATION
• New Cost tab on the main bar
• Profile and Settings open from your avatar at the top of Home
• Onboarding rebuilt around the cost story

FIXES
• Aircraft picker in Log a Flight pulls your saved aircraft with rates pre-filled
• Sharper milestone targets for CFI, CFII, and ATP
• PPL pass with a Commercial or CFI goal asks "what's next?" instead of skipping Instrument
• "On pace" updates correctly after you delete your most recent flight
• Manually logged flights no longer surface the share card
• Commercial cost projection past the FAA hour gate is now accurate

Free. No subscription. No ads. Built by a CFI.

Thanks for using PilotBound. We read every App Store reply.
