## What is Pinglo?

Anyone can walk up and say "that's my phone." Most lost-and-found apps take their word for it. Pinglo asks for one thing first: a private detail only the real owner could know — the crack in the corner of the screen, the last four digits on the card inside. No match, no handover.

Reporting takes about a minute. Pick a category, drop roughly where it went missing, add the one private detail. Then browse what is actually near you, because the feed now runs on your device's real location — or switch to Everywhere and search with no distance limit when you're travelling. Found something that isn't yours? Post a sighting and the owner is notified the moment you do. When a claim checks out, it moves into private chat, so nobody has to publish personal details to get their things back.

Campuses, venues and workplaces get a private layer on top: Communities. Each site has its own space, walled off from the public feed — a safety feed where non-emergency alerts carry a real severity, from Info to Heads-up to Urgent, and run from Active to Resolved; a place map with severity-coloured pins; a member list with a verified star; direct messages that open only after the other person accepts your request; and a group chat. Any member can flag an open alert to the community's own officials. Once you've joined, Face ID gets you back in — no code to retype. City University of London is live now, with more launch partners rolling out.

One idea runs through all of it: you don't get your things back by asking nicely. You get them back by knowing something about them a stranger couldn't.

What you can do:
- Report a lost or found item with the one private detail that verifies a real claim
- Browse reports near you by real location, or switch to Everywhere with no distance limit
- Post a sighting and notify the owner instantly
- Get notified on your phone when someone spots your item, claims one, or messages you
- Join a private Community for your campus, venue or workplace, and get back in with Face ID
- Follow a Community safety feed with severity levels, an Active-to-Resolved lifecycle and a place map
- Flag an open alert to your community's officials
- Message another member directly, once they accept your request
- Check a claim through private chat before anyone meets up
- Report or block unsafe interactions
- Confirm when an item has actually been returned
- Earn points for helping out and redeem them for badges

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4 — 2026-09-07

What's new in 1.4

• Nearby finally means nearby. The feed runs on your device's real
location instead of a placeholder. Travelling? Switch to Everywhere
and search every report, near or far, with no distance limit.
• Push notifications are live. A sighting on your post, a claim, a new
message or a report near you now reaches your phone — with a switch
per category, a radius you choose, quiet hours, and a daily cap so
  nearby alerts never pile up.
• Community Safety grew up. Alerts carry a severity — Info, Heads-up,
Urgent — and run Active → Resolved, with a place map of
severity-coloured pins. Any member can flag an open alert straight to
  the community's officials.
• Direct messages inside a community. The first message is a request
the other person accepts before the thread opens. Group chat rebuilt
too: live refresh, timestamps, and message bubbles that behave.
• Face ID gets you back into a community you've already joined —
  no code to retype.
• Sign up with Apple or Google in fewer taps. No invented recovery
answer; those accounts already recover through the provider.
• Profile, points, posts and settings now live on one Account screen
  instead of two that overlapped.
• A new icon and a new look for screen titles.
• Fixes: no more stuck spinner while your profile restores after
sign-in, the keyboard no longer collides with the tab bar in chat,
claim outcomes show properly in Chats, and unread counts are back.

### 1.3 — 2026-07-22

• Sightings – leave a public "I saw this" note on any report. The owner gets notified in the app the moment someone spots their item.
• Communities are full spaces now — every one gets its own Feed, Chat and People tabs, a verified star for confirmed members, and admin messages marked so you know who's official.
• Rebuilt Report flow – your private match detail comes first, category picks from a redesigned grid, date and time are picked not typed, and a checkmark confirms your post is live.
• New look – new app icon, full dark mode, and a floating tab bar that gets out of the way while you scroll.
• Rewards: your points balance animates as it updates and syncs the instant you sign in.
• Signing back in no longer re-asks you to redo your profile, plus smaller fixes throughout.

### 1.2 — 2026-07-19

• A fresh look — new app icon, full dark mode, and a floating tab bar
that tucks away while you scroll.
• Communities are now real homes — every community gets its own Feed,
Chat and People tabs, with verified members and admin messages
  clearly marked.
• Sightings — leave a public "I saw this" comment on any report, and
owners are notified in the app the moment someone spots their item.
• A friendlier report flow — pick your category from a redesigned
picker, choose the date & time instead of typing it, and get a clear
checkmark when your report is live.
• Rewards polish — your points balance animates as it grows, syncs the
moment you sign in, and profile avatars got a glossy 3D refresh.
• Fixes throughout — signing back in no longer re-asks for profile
  setup, plus many smaller improvements.

### 1.1 — 2026-07-02

Scan to join — point your camera at a Pinglo poster to enter your
  community's private feed instantly.
Community Safety feed — see and post safety alerts, hand-in points and
safe spots for your campus, venue or workplace, alongside lost & found.
Report any post — flag anything that doesn't belong and it's hidden
straight away and sent to our team.
Fixes and polish throughout.
