## What is PingPoint?

Have you ever wished you could map network latency along a road or trail, but couldn’t find an app for it? PingPoint lets you visualize ping performance on the go in real locations, so you can spot the fastest signal areas while you navigate.

Record ping sessions while driving, hiking, or traveling to understand connectivity for a route, trail, or specific area. PingPoint plots each ping on a map as colored blips from green to red, showing good to poor latency. Choose your ping interval and target hosts to test different network conditions and compare results across locations.

PingPoint is built for IT professionals, network analysts, road warriors, digital nomads, and anyone technically inclined who wants to measure, diagnose, and graph connectivity while moving. I built PingPoint while living on the road — at the edges of cellular service, I was tired of ping tools that told me how fast my connection was but never where. So I made one that maps it.

Common uses:
- Find the best connectivity regions by mapping network latency along your route or trail (cellular or mobile hotspot)
- Review connection stability over time using the timeline graph (cellular or Wi-Fi)
- Map the latency of regions around your home Wi-Fi
- Improve responsiveness in congested networks by pinging in the background while using other apps (cellular or mobile hotspot)
- Test latency to a host similar to standard network ping tools

FEATURES
- Link Health tab for a real-time read on connection quality, pairing ICMP ping with a TCP latency probe
- Dashboard with live GPS accuracy readings, plus map and graph views for latency testing
- Map view showing all pings and latency information at recorded locations
- Heatmap mode that composites your pings into smooth latency blobs for clearer coverage at a glance, toggled right on the map
- Filter map pings by latency to immediately see faster and slower areas
- Session-based results with min, max, mean/average, and round-trip statistics, plus graphs per session
- Quick controls to switch ping intervals
- Tap an individual map blip to view the recorded latency and GPS accuracy for that ping
- Copy coordinates for any ping location
- Navigate to any ping location using Apple Maps
- Export ping sessions as GPX routes

LIMITATIONS
- The dashboard timeline graph is not interactive yet
- IPv4 only for now (send feedback if you need IPv6 sooner)
- Ping packet sizes are not configurable yet (send feedback if you need this sooner)
- Location accuracy depends on your device’s built-in GPS and using a third-party GPS receiver can improve accuracy reported to PingPoint.

ON THE ROADMAP
- Better iPad layouts
- macOS compatibility
- Improved timeline view with scroll, zoom, and interactivity
- More detailed per-ping information and richer session statistics
- Additional charts and graphs
- Configurable ping packet sizes and payload
- Enhanced session organization (naming, tagging, flagging, and more)
- Location-based ping intervals (ping only after moving a set distance)
- Throughput testing
- Apple Watch support

PRIVACY POLICY
All recorded location data stays offline and encrypted on your device. PingPoint uses no third-party analytics or advertising frameworks, and it does not transmit, distribute, or sell your data. Ever.

## Key features

## Frequently asked questions about PingPoint

### What is PingPoint used for?

PingPoint allows you to map network ping latency on a map, helping you find areas with the best signal. You can record ping sessions while moving to visualize connectivity along routes or trails.

### How does PingPoint display latency?

Pings are displayed on the map as colored blips, ranging from green for good latency to red for poor latency. This visual representation helps users quickly identify areas with varying network performance.

### What kind of statistics does PingPoint provide?

Each ping session is grouped with statistics including min/max/mean/avg latency and round-trip times, along with graphs for each session. You can also select individual pings to see recorded accuracy and latency.

### Can I export my ping data from PingPoint?

Yes, PingPoint allows you to export your ping sessions as GPX routes. This feature is useful for analyzing recorded routes and their associated network performance data.

### What devices does PingPoint support?

PingPoint is available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod. The app is designed to provide network analysis capabilities across these Apple devices.

### How often is PingPoint updated?

The latest version of PingPoint is 1.1.5, last updated on May 6, 2026. Future updates are planned to include improved iPad layouts, macOS compatibility, and enhanced timeline views.

### What is the price of PingPoint?

PingPoint is a paid application priced at $2.99. This one-time purchase grants you access to all current and future features of the app.

### Does PingPoint have ads?

No, PingPoint does not contain advertisements. As a paid application, it offers an ad-free experience for users focused on network analysis.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-25

Introducing Link Health — a fast, live check on your connection quality.

NEW
• Link Health tab — a quick read on your connection without starting a full ping session, pairing ICMP ping with a new TCP latency probe.
• TCP round-trip timeline, so you can measure latency even for hosts that don't answer ICMP.
• Network health summary with rolling average latency and at-a-glance health bars.
• Ping Interval control — pick 50ms, 250ms, 500ms, or 1s for the Link Health test.
• Heatmap — switch the map between individual ping dots and a composited latency heatmap to see your coverage instantly.

IMPROVED
• Much faster, smoother graph and overall app rendering.
• Cleaner latency graph scale that stays readable past 1 second.
• Better Link Health settings layout on smaller screens.
• Quicker app launch.

FIXED
• A crash that could occur during a Link Health test.
• Ping map markers on iOS 26.
• Numerous stability and correctness fixes across the app.
