At this point it is non-functional, I am unable to see my pins or create any new ones. It’s sad as I have loved this app for years. I hope it sees some maintenance, it was previously excellent. ### 3/5 — Save to Pinner from share sheet broken *2024-04-25* This used to be an excellent tool for saving bookmarks to Pinboard, but increasingly its features stopped working. Now, however, it can’t even save from the share sheet anymore, complaining that there is “no URL found” when trying to save a webpage to Pinner. A bummer. ### 3/5 — Great design but website titles not fetched *2023-02-09* I love the app, and I feel like only recently I’ve experienced the following bug. For whatever reason, if you save a website to Pinner from the share sheet, the web page title isn’t fetched. The app also used to prompt me to input my tags and add my own description, but it doesn’t seem to do that anymore (though this might be a setting error). I find myself using my Pinboard favorites bookmark more often because it works better. I hope they fix these issues. ### 3/5 — Disappointingly slow to add via sharing. *2022-04-13, version 4.3.1* Takes up to a minute to save a URL. Not worth the time. Too bad, it used to be much faster. Probably not the devs’ fault, but I am back to bookmarklets and shortcuts. ### 2/5 — Used to be good *2021-03-07, version 4.3.1* Unfortunately it looks like the developer has abandoned this app. On the current iOS version you can't tag new bookmarks and there's a glitch where it constantly says shows that "pasting from X" popup when you're in the app. ### 2/5 — Kind of buggy *2021-01-16, version 4.3.1* What would otherwise be a great app has lots of bugs. Inconsistent quick-add feature, only pulls in the right title half the time, sometimes fails to sync to pinboard. Don’t use it without checking on your actual pinboard to make sure it’s working as expected. ### 3/5 — Bug related to Paste function *2021-01-02, version 4.3.1* Having pasted my api key, the paste alert is continually reappearing every second. That’s a huge problem making it distracting to use unless you edit a pin and copy some text. However, I take back some of what I said in the past - I was probably hitting an iOS bug. Lack of updates means if you're considering it today, it's not a good idea anymore. Several issues creeped up as the years went on, and today it isn't reliable anymore. ### 2/5 — Abandoned? *2020-11-19* This was the best Pinboard app for iOS, but it seems to have been abandoned now. An update is desperately needed for iOS 14 as it endlessly repeats a ‘pasted from’ banner at the top, making it beyond nauseating. ### 3/5 — Mostly OK *2020-10-24* I really liked this app, but I wish the developer would update it. In iOS 14, it’s constantly pasting from the clipboard, which results in a bunch of annoying notifications. Also, it doesn’t support the modern share sheet, which I think has been around since iOS 13. Sadly, I might need to switch Pinboard apps if this one has been abandoned. :( ### 2/5 — Used to be great.. *2020-10-04* Seems not maintained anymore and has a few bugs (search not working anymore) which makes it not pleasant to use. Still looking for an alternative on the iPad. ### 2/5 — Missing title *2020-09-05* When I share a tweet from the Twitter app to Pinner it doesn’t fetch the title (I have Fetch Title and Autofill enabled). Same when sharing from GitHub. I reached out to the developer on Twitter but got no response. ### 2/5 — Impossible to edit tags *2020-07-29, version 4.3.1* The whole point of Pinboard is to organize links with tags. But this app makes it impossible to edit tags. Or makes the process so unnatural it is undiscoverable. Bad UI. ### 2/5 — Needs an update with fixes *2020-07-10* Pinner has served me well as a lightweight, clean Pinboard client for a long time. In 2020, it’s been two years since it has had an update. It’s share sheet integration seems barely functional, and fetching page titles isn’t working, which leaves it barely usable for me. I hope the author will be able to work on Pinner again. I’d gladly pay a few bucks for it. ### 2/5 — Not working, very buggy *2020-05-10, version 4.3.1* This was my favorite Pinboard app. It was fast, good UI, and just worked. I’m sad to see it so neglected since it’s very buggy and unreliable. I hope the dev updates it soon. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work at all. *2020-05-06* I logged in with both my password and an API token, multiple times, and the app never downloaded any of my bookmarks. When trying to add a bookmark the app insists I type a title instead of fetching it from the URL. So it’s useless both for reading and adding bookmarks. Pinswift worked fine but can no longer be downloaded. This app looks like a complete waste of money. ### 3/5 — Good… but could use an update *2020-04-25* This app continues to *work*, and particularly it gets the job done as far as saving items to Pinboard via the share extension. It’s starting to show its age, though, as it hasn’t been updated for standard features of the last couple versions of iOS or iPad OS. Seems abandoned *2024-05-25* I was a big fan of this app but lately whenever I try and use it from the share menu I get an error. It also occasionally fails to load my bookmarks. The last update seems to have been 6 years ago so I guess this has been abandoned. ### 1/5 — Abandonware? *2024-01-18* This app used to be great, but sadly it seems the developer has abandoned it. It hasn't been updated in years, and now, in iOS 17, I get an error that says, "Could not save. No URL found." Yet, another Pinboard app (which I don't like as much) has NO problem saving the very same pages. Currently, this app is unusable, as it no longer performs basic functions. ### 1/5 — Pinner *2021-02-25* Has been a great app but no longer seems to work properly. Look elsewhere for your pinboard needs ### 1/5 — Crashes in iOS 14 - please update *2021-01-30, version 4.3.1* I love and rely in this app to post URLs to Pinboard. It’s well designed and intuitive. Unfortunately, as of updating to iOS 14, the program crashes on entry and appears to be abandoned. Please recompile and re-release the app if at all possible. On iOS 14 I’m unable to add pins successfully or refresh my list of bookmarks. Pushpin is working fine. I hope this issue is resolved in the near future because I prefer Pinner’s design. ### 1/5 — Flaky, needs fixes *2020-11-10* In practice the app has worked well but it's got some grating bugs. Given that the last update was 3 years ago I don't expect the bugs will be fixed. I'm planning on finding another app that's still being maintained. The bugs are pretty significant: - The list of pinned items will occasionally decide to go blank, fall out of sync with whats on the server, or even have duplicate or missing items that don't reflect state on the server. Not super frequent and a couple app restarts would usually fix it eventually. - As of iOS 14 the share activity (e.g. to save something in Safari) no longer works properly. Previously it would display a dialog for editing the prefilled title/URL/description which could then be saved. Now it just freezes at the share menu for 5-10 seconds before saying that the page was saved, with the result on the server having nothing other than the bare URL (no more prefilled titles). ### 1/5 — Glitchy mess of an app *2020-10-21* App frequently disconnects from Pinboard, extension will either randomly save to read it later or pop up a dialogue box to allow for tagging, description and other details. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — I keep hoping *2020-12-25, version 4.3.1* I keep hoping to see an update as it has quit working completely. Unlike other clients, it doesn’t just punt the rendering of the optimized view to Safari’s Reader stylesheet, it renders inline. Pocket’s distraction free view still looks better, IMO, but If you’re like me and keep your read-later queue in Pinboard, this should be your go-to app. *** ORIGINAL REVIEW Until three weeks ago this was my most used app. Then it started crashing on launch—every single time. Pushpin had the exact same problem, but fixed it this week with an update. The Pinner dev has been unresponsive to queries about this issue. I don't give it one star out of disgust, but because in its current state it's completely unusable. It crashes within 20 seconds of launch unless the phone is switched to Airplane Mode, which of course prevents the downloading and refreshing of bookmarks. An unrelated issue, just for the record: the Kindle version, which doesn't crash like the iOS version, only renders blank pages for articles switched to Optimized view, which defeats the purpose of using a Pinboard client over the Pinboard website. ### 5/5 — Consistently the best Pinboard client *2017-10-07* Fast launch, great UI, and the share integration is snappy (which makes it dead simple to bookmark from inside Safari). I've tried a lot of Pinboard apps, and this has stayed my favorite. ### 5/5 — Works great! *2017-10-04* Just wanted to drop a review since I almost didn’t download this because of some negative reviews, especially given the upfront cost. Whatever issues there were, this does work and it works really well. Great integration with Safari, and a nice UI to navigate the bookmarks.
