The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because it doesn’t have an option for the most basic role of Pinochle. Every Pinochle game I’ve ever played anywhere has required a team to get 20 pointers in order to score, whether you win the bid or not. This is an addition to the requirement to have 20 meld. This is not an option in this app. Without it, it’s nearly impossible to come back when you’re behind. Not to mention, this is a staple rule in Pinochle. Please add a button to require 20 pointers in order to score. ### 4/5 — Well done, Fishdog! *2024-10-03, version 9.0.1* This game has plenty of options to play with many different styles of pinochle. I’m quite impressed with the work that went into it and the fun of playing. I no longer willing to be a prisoner to the advertising in other games, and have deleted them all, happy to pay three or four dollars for the relaxation of a better game app. I’m hoping that some point there will be a game that can be played online with live opponents, again without advertising. In my world, a jump of two points = a meld bid of 20, jump of three points shows a meld bid of 30, etc. In this app, apparently a jump bid just means *some* meld. (i.e. your partner will not try to build 4 of a kind during card swap among others). Once you get used to the AI strategy you will do very well. I'm a single deck player. The meld is ridiculous. Dummy opposing team seem to get all large meld hand. 45 meld, 27 meld. Ridiculous!!! Opponent always has the aces. My dummy partner doesn't bid correctly and how bout an update with the option of NO auction bid? Takes all the fun out of the game. It's hard enough to get a run, then they get 26 meld. Fix this game and make it fair. How this gets on the update is crazy. Find out who did that, and who approved it, fire them both. I give 2 stars just cause I love pinochle. 2 stars is pushing it for me. Get people who really know how to play the game to redesign it. Offer no no action bid. ### 2/5 — Programming irritations *2021-02-25, version 7.8.1* Generally I like this app, but there’s no provision for strategically using tens and kings when they’re the high card. Instead of holding them so they can take a trick, the app ALWAYS uses them as schmears. It’s very irritating to lose a hand or even a game because a high card was wasted on schmearing. ### 2/5 — Nice game but don’t expect to win *2020-10-13, version 7.6.2* The game is well laid out with plenty of configurations and options for making it the version you are use to playing. But don’t expect to win very often. The reason: your system managed partner does not use the same algorithms for bidding or playing tricks that your competitors use. This can be extremely frustrating some times. It is no where near as aggressive at bidding or calculating when playing tricks than the competing team. and often your partner will make plays that no experienced player would make. Also- in large print the trump suit icon is so large that it covers the card of the bid taker each play so I have to guess what they played. Needs to be fixed! My only complaint is that the game is very pessimistic about how many tricks you can take. For example: say you need 20 tricks to save your meld and the app says you might take 17.
