## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Free version is very limited

*2024-01-08*

The free version is so limited in its functionality that I ended up deleting it as it is impossible to determine if it's worth a subscription.

### 2/5 — Hangs at the slightest provocation

*2024-05-24*

I can’t tell you if the app is good, because never really got a chance to use it.

On launch, after logging in, I’m presented with a completely blank screen on my iPad mini in vertical orientation. Rotating to horizontal shows my bookmarks,

Opening the settings to see my options, I tap on Appearance and toggle an item (any item), and the app hangs.

The app has limited functionality without subscribing, and I’m not subscribing with this first experience, so I don’t know how well the app actually works.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t support descriptions‽

*2021-01-11*

The good:
• I’m glad that this app exists—because the field of Pinboard apps seems to be dwindling by the day.

The bad:
• For some reason, this app doesn’t seem to support Pinboard’s “description” field for URLs that you’ve bookmarked—neither when adding nor when viewing bookmarks? So that alone makes this app a unusable for me.

Like, let’s suppose that you had used Pinboard’s website to bookmark a page for a sneaker, and you added a note in the description field about what size and color your brother would like for their birthday—so that you could then later buy them those sneakers.

Well, if you’re using this app, too bad: You won’t be able to see what you had put in that description field.

PS I rated this two stars rather than one star because I think that this app still has potential. And if the developer were to further improve the app, such as by adding support for Pinboard’s description field, I think that this app could go places.

**Developer response:** Hi there! I am happy to say that version 1.0.5 now supports descriptions.

### 3/5 — Share extension buggy

*2024-01-28*

When I use the share extension in safari, the screen shrinks slightly but the share sheet doesn’t pop up 90% of the time. Please fix, thank you!

### 3/5 — Okay not great

*2023-11-27*

The app will save bookmarks. Great. But beyond that, its features are buggy. I find I can't reliably tag bookmarks and have them stick. And the app keeps losing bookmark icons, requiring a refresh. And the UI is quirky -- eg, select the side view for "tags" and there's no obvious way to revert the side view to the standard view. For a subscription-based app, these bugs should be addressed on a more frequent cycle. I'm looking for an altarnative desktop client.

### 3/5 — Decent looking but limited

*2022-01-01*

A decent looking Pinboard client with basic functionality but not very flexible; sidebar contents are fixed so one can't remove or hide extraneous options nor expand the list with searches or tags.

### 5/5 — Excellent developer responsiveness and thoughtful improvements

*2026-04-10*

I rely on Pinstachio as part of a broader publishing workflow, and recently ran into a limitation with how the share extension handled tags.

After reporting it, the developer responded quickly, implemented a fix, and in version 2.2 added an option to fetch tags directly within the share extension. This resolves a real-world workflow issue and makes the tool significantly more reliable. A smaller but meaningful fix was also included — the “private” toggle now behaves consistently across sessions.

For context, I’ve used Pinboard for years and tried multiple companion apps (many of which have since been deprecated). Pinstachio has been my go-to for some time now, and this kind of responsiveness is exactly why.

Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — No idea what I’d do without

*2025-03-02*

I use pinboard EVERY DAY, and this app is sleek and simple and works without fail. I am eternally grateful.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2021-11-19, version 1.2.1*

Can’t live without this! This works perfect with pinboard.

### 5/5 — Great modern interface for Pinboard

*2021-02-20*

Pinstachio is just what I was looking for - a modern app built on top of the rock solid Pinboard service. Using the Pinboard website on an iOS device is no fun. Fortunately I found Pinstachio. It fits right in on iOS.

Just in the week that I have been using the app a couple features that I want have been added. Of course I wish syncing my bookmarks was quicker. Hopefully sync time will improve now that background updating in Pinstachio has been added.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for your support! Regarding the speed, I would definitely like to keep improving upon it; if you don't mind, could you reach out via the support option inside the app to see where improvements can be made?

## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great

*2021-02-18*

It’s the best but I really wish I could just buy a lifetime subscription for like $50 or something

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback!

### 5/5 — The best in 2021, we really needed this app

*2021-02-05*

The only good pinboard app I could find. Works as you’d expect, can’t ask for more! Crucially, sharing from other apps is very slick.

Not usually keen on subscription, but it’s cheap and if it keeps the app alive and up to date so be it.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for your support!

### 5/5 — solid app

*2021-01-27*

this app has been my favorite experience over all other options for managing my pinboard

**Developer response:** Thank you! Glad you like it!

### 5/5 — The best pinboard app

*2021-01-20*

Tried it for free for awhile, then subscribed. Very good app and a pleasure to use. Thank you.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your support!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2020-12-02*

The app works wonderfully well. The developer is passionate about providing a good product. Best of all he’s chosen a business model that I am convinced will provide continuing updates. Many venerable Pinboard apps in the past were sadly abandoned. Pinstachio is poised to keep evolving.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your kind words!
