### 2/5 — Does a good job - but ads are too intrusive

*2016-10-18, version 3.6*

This app was good until sometime in 2016 when the frequency of the ads increased and became so intrusive that learning isn't possible anymore. The price for the PRO version is priced far too high for a simple utility. If this app is the gateway for customers to explore the developer's other software, I believe they are hindering their sales by this strategy. I have given up on this app in its new advertisement-bloated form. It was good for many years.

### 4/5 — Good but to much in one space unless you buy the pro

*2016-09-30, version 3.4*

Buy the pro

### 4/5 — Excellent

*2015-08-05, version 3.1*

I'm just learning mandarin and this app is great and comprehensive for even later.

### 3/5 — Good

*2015-07-22, version 3.1*

It's very good but need to add male voice also.
Further how to make these sounds are still ?
Even how much I try and think I am doing ok , my chinese friend still says not exact and then he shows how to make exact sound.
So please tell also how to make these exact sounds...
Thanks

### 4/5 — Good pinyin app

*2015-07-14, version 3.1*

Audio only works with headphones, but this is fine as it helps me while reciting along with the recording of a native speaker. It would be nice to be able to choose male or female voices though.
Layout is rational and easy to use, but I would request one feature: the ability to highlight an entire column or row of sounds and listen to them recited with one or multiple tones (a, ba, ca, cha, da, etc.)
Overall a high quality pinyin app which I would recommend over others.

### 4/5 — Helpful

*2015-07-03, version 3.1*

Very helpful for practice the different intonation

*2014-07-30, version 3.0.1*

It's not the most beautiful app in the world but it works great and it's easy to use!

### 5/5 — simple/clear

a Must Have when learning Chinese, as every tone, every sound is right here to listen to and to practice with - wish to find one that does sentences like that showing the perfect pinyin and slow sounds

### 4/5 — Fixed!

Has sound now

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Audio not working

*2025-07-13, version 3.6.7*

After upgrade to latest release, the Audi no longer works on iPad nor iPhone… disappointing. Been using this app for years!

### 1/5 — can’t get app to make sound

*2025-02-16, version 3.6.7*

can’t get it to make the sound. checked iphone volume settings, mute and unmute, uninstalled and reinstalled. bluetooth settings. nothing worked for app to make sound.

### 1/5 — Intrusive adds and inability to restore purchase makes app nearly worthless

*2016-10-30, version 3.6.1*

I upgraded to a new device and purchases were not automatically restored. There are no settings for this app so the purchase and restore options are hidden behind a tiny remove ads button. This takes you to a page to purchase themes of some sort. The restore purchase button is there but you can't scroll to it and tap before it springs off screen. While doing all of this you are still subject to full screen ads every 30 seconds which makes using the app pointless.

### 1/5 — Too many ads

*2016-10-15, version 3.5*

Every 20 to 30 seconds there's an ad that pops up. The App Store shows you can buy the ad removal for $.99, but inside the app you can only purchase the VIP package for $9.99. The VIP package is another app that supposed to teach you pronunciation for Chinese words but I downloaded the free trial it doesn't do anything.

### 1/5 — !!!! AUDIO DOES NOT WORK !!!!

*2015-01-02, version 3.1*

Audio doesn't work on iPhone 6 Plus 64gb with latest iOS 8.0.x. The only thing good about it is that audio works on the iPad mini 2 with 64gb and latest iOS 8.0.x. For some strange reason this is also the case with another pinyin app made by AllSet. I'm wondering if both companies are using the same core engine to power their apps. Please fix asap and I'll change my review to 5 stars!

### 1/5 — Deceptive in-app purchase

*2014-06-28, version 3.0.1*

The iTunes store item says Remove Ads for $.99. Go to the info page and you don’t see remove ads, you see daisy or something. I spent $.99 and still have ads. I wrote to the developer, no response, they clearly don’t care.

### 1/5 — Ads?

*2013-10-21, version 2.1*

Yo I paid for this and there's ads at the bottom?? I don't think there used to be. Was about to gift this to a friend and have recommended it in the past, but won't be doing that again unless the ads are gone quick.

### 1/5 — Not happy

*2012-07-18, version 2.0.1*

I love the app. But then there's the invasive advertising that rudely comes in at random when your using the app. And it does not go away until you delete the app. I would rather purchase an app without being bombarded while trying to learn than get this 'free' app that has fn strings attached! Is there no end to the freaking advertising!!! I'm so sick of it!!!

### 1/5 — The ad is blocking half the chart

*2012-05-25, version 2.0.1*

The ad blocks half the entire chart, useless

### 1/5 — Fix the bugs!!!

*2011-11-20, version 1.0.2*

I have purchased the app over a month and contacted app store as well as apps tech support many times. So far no respond!! I can't use it its still in demo version and most of the info is blocked

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very Useful

*2017-03-15, version 3.6.3*

As a beginner to Mandarin I had no idea how to use this app. I started taking TutorMing online lessons with their app. They have a review section with sound but sometimes I just didn't seem to be getting the words right. Using THIS app suddenly became the most useful adjunct I could have asked for. For me, Mandarin takes several approaches. I have found this app along with few others to be paramount in my learning.

### 5/5 — So helpful!

*2017-02-28, version 3.6.3*

Wish I'd had this the day I began studying Mandarin.

### 5/5 — Great!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2016-05-12, version 3.3*

Really useful app to learn Mandarin pinyin.

### 5/5 — Essential app for Chinese students

*2016-03-03, version 3.2*

The "Initial final" chart displays all possible Manderin sounds and tones--sound samples are clear and accurate--ads in free version are non-intrusive.
五颗星从黑马

### 5/5 — It is really helpful
