### 4/5 — If all you want is a standalone pitch pipe, hard to beat

*2023-08-24*

There are newer options available now such as Tunable that include a tuner and metronome as long as with pitch, but for a buck this still does the job of a pitch pipe is the only thing you need. These tones are triangle wave I believe (keyboard mode), and sound less harsh. The pitch wheel is however kind of harsh.

### 4/5 — Good but …

*2021-12-27*

When using for singers a flute sound would be a softer sound thank you x

### 5/5 — Exactly what’s needed

*2020-01-05*

This app does exactly as promised in a straightforward and easy to use way.

### 5/5 — Simple. Does what it needs to

*2019-09-18*

Never had a problem with it. Does exactly as advertised. 5 stars.

### 5/5 — Pitch Pipe

*2019-05-31*

Had this on my iPad but it mysteriously disappeared... took me ages to find it again and now delighted to have it on my Pad and phone. PERFECT for barbershoppers (or other acapella singers) everywhere. You can choose how many seconds it plays for (2.5 seconds is just right), and I can check my hand-held pipe against it for tuning accuracy. Love the festive option! A great app.

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2019-04-17*

Well designed

### 5/5 — Excellent choice

*2019-01-16*

I’m a big fan of Frozen Ape apps so far. Has traditional tone but also small keyboard which is more convenient for finding a key.

### 5/5 — Very pleased!

*2018-07-13*

Pleased with this easy-to-use, straightforward app.

### 5/5 — Does the job

*2017-06-25*

Does the job without a lot of useless frills. Well thought out app.

### 5/5 — Best pitch pipe replacement

*2017-06-06*

Thanks for updating to 64-bit. Now I can continue to use this great tool with my choir.

### 4/5 — Would be 5 ⭐️ if updated

*2017-05-25, version 1.5*

This is a great and useful app! However it hasn't been updated and by the next iOS (8) it's likely to be useless. The developers need to issue an update *now*

### 4/5 — Very good app

*2017-04-16, version 1.5*

I started singing in my church choir a few months ago and this app helps me find my correct pitch. However, it does need an update to continue working on my iPhone 6.

### 4/5 — Good

*2016-12-04*

Good app, using it to tune drums. A save option would be good to save tuning options (top & bottom heads) for a drummer. I realise the app isn't intended for drums but would be great with that option! Also a gui update would be nice.. ;)

### 5/5 — Totally awesome

*2014-12-01, version 1.5*

I tested this against my real pipe and it is dead on ! love it , I'll be using it in the future a lot ! Thanks

### 5/5 — Mrs.

*2014-11-18, version 1.5*

Simple to use and dependable. Recommended it to the Songleading 101 Class for Gals class I've been teaching.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Abandoned?

*2023-10-09*

I loved this app. I used it occasionally and it always did what I wanted. But on iOS 17.0.3 it crashes on launch. And it has not been updated for years.

### 1/5 — buzzing sound

*2015-10-31, version 1.5*

horrible tones on lower notes. may be accurate but sounds awful on iphone 6.

### 1/5 — Pitch Pipe–

*2012-05-01, version 1.4*

Had high hopes for Pitch Pipe+ because of the predominantly positive reviews. The download was easy. Certainly liked the look of each of the three views. Unfortunately, none of them would actually play a pitch. An AppleCare tech support person tried to help but wasn't able to figure out how to make the app behave and advised me to be in direct touch with the maker. Hoping I'd been making some stupid, simple, easily remedied mistake, I sent an email EIGHT DAYS AGO to Frozen Ape asking for tech support or a refund but have received no response whatsoever.

### 1/5 — Really...

*2010-04-22*

The 1st app I am giving 1 star

### 1/5 — I want my 99 cents back

*2010-04-16*

This review is from a barbershopper's perspective. The tone of the pitchpipe function is obviously and gratingly artificial; the ipitchpipe app has a much more natural tone that very closely approximates the tone of a reed pitchpipe (but, alas, is available only in C-C; no F-F yet). Also, unlike ipitchpipe, the pitchpipe in this app does not sound when the iPhone is silenced--a serious drawback, as it creates the possibility of the phone ringing in the middle of a performance if you forget to silence the phone after sounding the pitch. I also dislike that there is no way to turn off the tone after only a second or two (short of silencing the phone); it plays for a full 3 seconds, whether you like it or not.

### 2/5 — Pitches don't sound in correct octave

*2015-06-08, version 1.5*

You can select the octave on a piano keyboard image, but some of the pitches (D at least) are from the correct octave and some are from another octave (even though they are next to each other in the same octave on the keyboard)

### 2/5 — Crashes

*2014-06-09, version 1.5*

This app is fantastic when it works. Unfortunately that's only about 40% of the time. If I leave it open in the background and go back to it after using another app, the sound stops working. It looks like it's playing a note but no sound comes out. And no, it's not because my volume it turned down. I have to quit the app and start it again to make it work. Too bad because I love all the features it comes with.

### 2/5 — Pitch Pipe+ von Frozen Ape

*2013-06-23*

### 3/5 — Was great; now crashes

*2021-02-21*

This was my go-to app for timpani tuning for years. In iOS 14 it just crashes, though. Please update!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2025-07-19*

Easy to use, reliable - everything a singer could ask

### 5/5 — Works great

*2025-03-27*

I have this on my Lock Screen. Doesn’t require the Internet and is very handy.

### 5/5 — click

*2024-04-19*

So easy to find keys of songs I’m listening to. Love it.

### 5/5 — Comfortable to use

*2023-10-22*

This app looks and works like a traditional pitch pipe. It is easy to give a pitch unobtrusively from the midst of the choir.

### 5/5 — Great electronic pitch pipe!

*2023-08-13*

This is a really nice and easy to use device. As a visually impaired musician, though, it does need some work to make it fully accessible. For example, when playing a guitar note, it’s not announced.

Overall, though, a great app.

### 5/5 — Couldn’t ask for more

Spot on. perfect and convenient.
