## What is Pitchworks?

Most pitchers have no idea what they actually throw. They know their fastball "feels" fast and their curveball "usually" works. But feelings don't reveal why the third inning always falls apart, or whether that new changeup grip is actually improving command. Data does.

Pitchworks captures what happens on every pitch (velocity, location, outcome) and transforms it into insights you can act on. Get answers between innings, no statistics degree required.

WHAT YOU GET

During the game: A scoring interface designed for the chaos of live baseball. Four taps to log a pitch. No internet required. Works in the dugout, behind the backstop, or in the bullpen.

After the session: Generate charts showing velocity trends, zone accuracy, pitch mix, and outcome breakdowns. See at a glance whether your pitcher is locating or just surviving.

Over time: Compare today's outing to last month's. Track progress across a season. Identify the patterns that paper logs could never reveal, like which counts lead to walks, or how velocity drops after 40 pitches.

For the conversation: Send PDF reports to players, parents, or other coaches with a single tap. Every session becomes documented evidence of work put in and progress made.

BUILT FOR REALITY

High school baseball happens on patchy fields with inconsistent Wi-Fi and limited time between games. Pitchworks works offline, requires no account setup, and stays out of your way so you can focus on your team.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-03-14

What's New (v1.4.0)

VELOCITY HUD

See max speeds for each pitch type right on the scoring screen. The velocity HUD appears to the left of the strike zone and updates as you record pitches. Tap it to share the pitcher's velocity summary via text message.

BSO COUNT DISPLAY

The count display now shows balls, strikes, and outs in a clear BSO format (B 2 S 1 O 2). Outs reset each inning so you always know where you stand.

SEASON TAGGING

Tag each session with a season like "Spring 2026" or "Fall Ball." The app remembers your last season so new sessions pick it up automatically. Filter reports by season to compare performance across different parts of the year.

LEADERBOARDS

The Report Card has been renamed to Leaderboards. The report screen now uses a single unified layout where you pick your report type (Custom Analysis or Leaderboards), then set shared filters for time window, session type, season, and team. Strikeout% replaces Batters per Strikeout in the Leaderboards PDF.

COLOR-CODED STATS

PDF report stats are now color-coded by quality tier. Blue means elite, green means good, black is average, orange means below average, and red means poor. This makes it easy to spot strengths and areas to improve at a glance.

IMPROVED PDF REPORTS

OBA heat map uses a cleaner white-to-red color scale
Placement chart labels are bolder and easier to read
Time period picker shows actual month names
PITCH STREAM UPDATES

Non-pitch events now show short abbreviations with colored dots (green, red, or yellow)
Non-pitch event rows use a clean white background
Sessions are now sorted by date
HAPTIC FEEDBACK

Feel a tap when you record a pitch or toggle trash mode.

BUG FIXES

Fixed session import overwriting pitches with stale data
Fixed opening .pitchworks files from Messages and AirDrop
Fixed session delete losing pitch data
Fixed innings pitched miscounting hits as strikeouts
Fixed sharing PDFs with names containing special characters
Fixed crash when creating a new session
Fixed batter handedness carrying across at-bat boundaries

### 1.3.0 — 2026-02-21

What's New (v1.3.0)

REPORT CARD

Compare your entire pitching staff in one PDF. The new Report Card shows velocity rankings, pitch counts, and key stats for every pitcher side-by-side. Filter by time period (current session, current month, last month, or all time) and by team.

NON-COMPETITIVE PITCH TRACKING

The "Wild" button is now "NCP" (Non-Competitive Pitch). This better describes pitches that are significantly off-target. Existing data is automatically updated.

IMPROVED PDF STATS

- WHIP and Chase Rate replace Batters per Walk and Batters per Hit
- Innings Pitched now shown in standard baseball notation
- Max speed included in the velocity section

### 1.2.0 — 2026-02-03

WILD PITCH TRACKING

Track wild pitches with the new WILD button on the third row. Wild pitches are marked with WP in the pitch stream notes and counted in your statistics.

SMARTER SCORING BUTTONS

The LOOK button now changes to TAKE when you select a ball zone. This makes it clearer whether the pitch was called correctly based on location.

LINE OUT AND POP OUT TRACKING

Added Line Out and Pop Out to the swing outcomes menu. These outs now appear separately in PDF report breakdowns alongside ground outs and fly outs.

STOLEN BASE EVENTS

Track stolen bases and caught stealing attempts using the new event buttons in the extras menu. These events show with colored indicators in the pitch stream.

MULTI-REPORT VIEWING

When generating reports for multiple pitchers, all reports open in a single viewer. Navigate between reports with arrow buttons or use the picker menu. Share all reports at once with one tap.

BULK PITCHER REPORTS

Generate reports for all pitchers at once from the Custom Report screen. Perfect for creating end-of-practice summaries for your entire roster.

ENHANCED PDF REPORTS

Reports now include K/BB% (strikeout rate minus walk rate) in the Performance section. Chase Rate moved to the Pitch Effectiveness column for better organization. Line outs and pop outs are tracked separately in the Summary section.

BUG FIXES

- Fixed pitch speed averages in arsenal mix section
- Improved batter handedness tracking within at-bats
- Resolved FB/FB2 button selection issue
- Data export files now include timestamps in filenames

### 1.1.0 — 2026-01-22

EDIT ANY PITCH

Made a mistake while scoring? Now you can fix it. Double-tap any pitch in the pitch stream to edit it. Change the speed, location, pitch type, result, or batter handedness. Mark a bad call. Toggle a new at-bat. Everything is editable.

CUSTOM REPORTS

Pull stats from more than just one session. The new Custom Report feature lets you filter pitches by pitcher, time range, and session type. Want to see how your ace performed in games over the past month? Or compare all your pitchers' practice sessions? Build the report you need, then share it as a PDF.

PREVIEW BEFORE YOU SHARE

PDF reports now open in a preview screen before sharing. Review the report, then tap Share when you're ready.

SMARTER PITCH TYPE PREDICTION

Pitch type suggestions now kick in after just one pitch instead of waiting for three. The app learns faster.

BUG FIXES

- Non-pitch events (pickoffs, basepath outs) no longer mess up the ball-strike count
- Hit by pitch now shows as "HBP" instead of "B" in the pitch stream
- Batter handedness stays consistent within each at-bat
- Fixed character display issues in Quick Look headers
