◦ Play multiple images at the same time, in sync
◦ Choose what parts of the image will be played and at what timing
◦ Tap on the image and record yourself playing alongside the sequencer

Features
◦ AUv3 with preset and MIDI support
◦ Ableton Link compatible
◦ Control sequencer timing and configuration
◦ Program different step lengths in patterns and play these across your images with Verses
◦ Choose between RGB, Luminance, Hue, or Saturation data to control pitch, velocity, or note duration
◦ Choose how the image is traversed, between Left -> Right, Top -> Down, or Circular. Select randomness factor in image traversal
◦ Choose recorded loop length and quantization settings
◦ Internal Synth with delay and reverb effects
◦ Send MIDI to external synths when used as AUv3. Each image you add has a separate MIDI channel exposed in the AU host
◦ Save and Load app states and configurations
◦ Dark mode support

AU Hosts Compatibility
◦ Pixel Music works best with AUM, Audiobus, or ApeMatrix
◦ Pixel Music does NOT support Logic Pro or Garage Band

Have fun with it.

## Key features

- Pixels control pitch, velocity, and note duration
- Play multiple images simultaneously

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-08-29, version 2.0*

Great app for ambient music creation

### 3/5 — It’s pretty good, but I use GarageBand for which it is not supported

*2024-09-03*

GarageBand is pretty common place, maybe you would do better if it was functional within that venue i.e. your app?… Or, if you could choose multiple influences such as velocity for … I don’t know. I’m tired. I’ll give you five stars later.

Oh yeah, you can’t find this unless you write in Pixel Music all one word otherwise it doesn’t wanna find it in the App Store. Go figure marketing guys….

### 4/5 — Good app, could be better

*2024-08-02*

I am happy the developer responded quickly when I had an issue getting the app to work within Logic. Now that I have had some time with it I wish it could have the ability to assign Note durations to a color value (for example: darker shades play longer notes). Also, if had the ability to tie notes if all the color values are identical.

I will still play with the app to see what I can get out of it. I am looking forward to the next update.

**Developer response:** Hello - the app works as an AUV3 and you can route MIDI out in the Audio Unit host.

### 2/5 — App would have more potential with Midi out.

*2024-07-29*

This app would be great if it had midi out or was an AUv3.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the support! Sending MIDI to separate channels from each sequencer is now available in version 1.1 :)

### 5/5 — Add Original Image record feature

*2023-09-01*

This is app is great! Very smooth and the UI is nice. I would love to be able to hide the pixels and see the actual image and record a video play the image with out the pixel blur.

**Developer response:** Hello - thank you for the great suggestion, I'm tracking it and will look into it this fall.

### 4/5 — pretty cool little app

*2023-08-23*

a really cool little app for experimental music and music creation - only issue i have is whenever i try to adjust the hue or saturation in the model menu the app shuts down. otherwise really cool 👍

**Developer response:** Hello and thank you for your review - can you please send more details around the issue you encountered at hello@pixelmusic.app to be able to investigate and fix it?

It will be helpful to include any details that you remember - if you were trying to change the pitch, velocity, or duration for example. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Good idea, but not up to scratch yet

*2023-03-19*

This could be soooo inspiring, but at the moment it is lacking even basic requirements: e.g. the save and restore process is not working for me - restoring brings up a new empty slot and not the one I had saved before.

And as far as I can see, there is currently no way to output MIDI notes to other apps, you are stuck with the internal sound generator, which is not really powerful enough to guarantee more than 15 minutes of fun before you start to get bored. Any music app on iOS should be open to communicate with all other music apps on your device right from the start!

Once these two (imho essential) problems have been fixed, I will update my review to a full 5 stars review. Hopefully soon :-)

**Developer response:** Hey, thanks for the feedback! Can you please send more details to hello@pixelmusic.app regarding the save/restore issue so I can investigate? For MIDI - have you used it as AUv3? MIDI output is supported when you run it as an audio unit plugin and you can send notes to other synths in the AU host. Best, Andrei

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2023-03-17, version 1.0*

This app is so awesome! It sounds quirky, but it’s super cool to hear your photos. It’s a new dimension I never thought I’d love to explore this much.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2023-03-15*

Pretty good

### 4/5 — Very nice app

*2023-03-14, version 1.0*

Nice app. Works fantastic when you are using one sequence. When you use two sequences or more it sticks notes. Would be nice if you can send the output of each sequence to a different channel. Also tempo division for each channel would be cool too.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the support! Sending MIDI to separate channels from each sequencer is now available in version 1.1 :)

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 2.0 — 2024-07-28

>> Introducing VERSES!
With Verses, you have a new way of adding dynamics to Pixel Music by customizing the step lengths of sequencers. Program different step lengths in patterns and play these across your images. There is also a randomization feature with varying control options for creating these patterns, in case you need some help with unblocking that creative juice.

>> Higher Res Mode
Now allowing 32x48 sequencer resolution for even more pixels to play with.

>> Full list of updates:
◦ Verses: customize step lengths of sequencers in multiple sequential patterns
◦ 32x48 higher res mode for images
◦ Multiple dotted note options added for timing selection
◦ Internal Synth Activated and Allow Background Activity options are now persisted and differentiated between standalone and audio unit mode. This allows you to keep the internal synth deactivated all the time when running as an audio unit
◦ Various bug fixes

### 1.1 — 2023-03-28

Thanks for all the support and feedback. v1.1 comes with:

◦ Separate MIDI output channels exposed for each image/sequencer when used as AUv3
◦ Circular image traversal
◦ Fix for an issue that prevented saved states to be restored when used as a standalone app
◦ Fix for Crop mode in Top -> Down traversal

### 1.0 — 2023-03-11

No release notes.
