## What is PixelGuard | EXIF Remover?

The photo you posted may be telling people where it was taken.

Photos can record invisible details like GPS location, capture date and time, and camera or device names. PixelGuard is a privacy app that checks that info before you post to social media or send photos in messages, and saves a copy with the unwanted details removed.

The built-in iOS share options only help at the moment you send. PixelGuard lets you check each photo's location, date and device info in the photo list. New photos are checked at launch for location or other privacy info, and you can also be notified (notification permission required; when iOS can check in the background).

KEY FEATURES

- Detect GPS location information and view it on a map
- Show camera, lens, capture date and time, and other photo details
- Remove unwanted photo information and save a safer copy
- Clean multiple photos at once; on iOS 26 and later, when the system can use continued processing, cleaning can continue after you leave the app
- Clean Camera: shoot without attaching location and other info from the start (if the free quota is used up, the photo is saved with its info as-is)
- "Clean with PixelGuard" from the Photos share sheet: save a cleaned copy without opening the app (up to 10 at a time; the original photo is kept)
- When you open the app, new photos are checked for location or other privacy info and cleaning is suggested
- PixelGuard notifies you of new photos that still have location or other privacy info (notification permission required; when iOS can check in the background). With Pro, you can also choose the frequency
- When sharing a photo, send a cleaned copy on the spot (free: 1 photo at a time)
- "Select photos with high privacy risk" selects only photos with high privacy risk (Pro)
- Run checks and cleans from Shortcuts, Siri, and automations
- Home Screen widget shows the count of unchecked photos and photos with high privacy risk included in the new-photo suggestions

PLANS

- Free: remove info from up to 3 photos a day
- Pro: no photo limit; remove privacy-risk info from multiple photos at once

PRIVACY FIRST

PixelGuard never sends your photos outside your device. It does not upload images or collect usage data. Checking and removing photo information happens entirely on device.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.2.2 — 2026-09-28

PixelGuard now removes more of the hidden info in your photos and videos.
Videos: Now also removes hidden info such as location, device model, and capture date.
Photos: Now also removes info left in less obvious parts of the file.
Checked before saving: After cleaning, the app checks the file again and won't save it if anything that should be removed is still there.
Share sheet: When you clean from the share sheet, the app no longer keeps the photo's location or file name in readable form.
Other: Minor fixes.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-09-26

It's now easier to find the photos that need attention, and to check them before cleaning.

Find what matters: In the list, the photos shown in red, meaning high privacy risk, can be selected in bulk (Pro). The launch suggestion, notifications, the widget, and shortcuts also look for photos by the same standard.
Select first, clean after: Tap the launch suggestion, the widget, or a notification, and the app stops with the photos already selected. Check the contents, then clean (if you've used up today's free cleans, the suggestion and the widget open the Pro screen instead).
Confirmation after sharing: When you finish sharing a photo from PixelGuard, the app tells you that hidden info such as location and camera details was removed before sending (when "Clean Before Sharing" is on in Settings).
Easier-to-read widget: The medium size shows the number across the full width, and the top-left corner now holds the app logo.
During batch cleaning: While a run is in progress, the app tells you whether cleaning continues after you leave, and asks you to keep it open until it's done. If processing stays stopped partway, you get a notification (it won't arrive if notifications are off). If the app was closed partway, the next time you open it, it shows the photos that couldn't be cleaned and lets you select them again.
