Apple apps get such bad ratings. *2026-03-26* I have Pixelmator on multi iOS devices and my Mac computers. I do like the app in general however the latest version in iOS 17.6.1 has a number of issues. The text alignment option will switch to left after beginning in center. The files are sent to the bottom of the page while they used to be at the top. Sometimes the text style selection window will go blank and one must close and reopen to continue text style selection. Sometimes when opening an new image the app will say “can’t open now” or something like that. Again, open and close may fix that. I hope this will help your techs in fixing these issues. **Developer response:** Thanks for taking the time to share feedback. The text editing issue should be fixed in the next Pixelmator update. If you still experience issues after the update, feel free to drop us a line at support@pixelmator.com and we'll dig deeper. ### 4/5 — Needs some tweaks with controls and gestures. *2025-12-19, version 3.1.16* Standard retouching tools. Meant to be used in tandem with Photomator. Controls for some tools are frustrating and unintuitive due to a delay in registering the action. Example: when using the Distort tool, there is the pinch option. This tool works in two ways where you can suck in an area by pinching your fingers together or blow it up by spreading your fingers on the screen. 9/10 times, instead of blowing up the desired area, the app will zoom in on the photo instead. Needs more options for more precise distortions and maybe a tutorial or two for those who are new to retouch. Otherwise, it does its job. ### 4/5 — It needs the skew a picture or photo option *2025-12-12, version 3.1.16* Love this app. I use it to make stickers but it’s missing skew. Need it to skew logos on some pictures because the way the picture I’m using the person is at. Other than that it’s an amazing app to use. ### 4/5 — Almost perfect *2025-11-25, version 3.1.16* I would like to request a feature that allows exporting only the selected pixels, without including the full rectangular canvas area. In other words, the exported image should preserve the exact shape of the selection with real transparency, similar to how Photoshop exports a selection. Currently, Pixelmator for iPad always exports a rectangular area, even when users only need the cut-out object. A “Export selection with transparency” option would greatly improve the workflow. It is available on the old version and on the desktop version but missing from this one. In Pixelmator, the quality of an image is determined by the number of pixels it consists of. If the images or other layers you add to a graphic look pixelated, you may be working on a relatively small canvas. With this in mind, try starting your projects with a bigger canvas — it should help. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Un grand et beau logiciel de retouche *2026-08-25* J’utilise Pixelmaror depuis ses débuts sur iPhone. Il est parfaitement conçu, intuitif pour peu que l’on connaisse les grands principes de retouche en général. Les principes de l’interface son vite compris et mémorisés. et Tout les outils ont les réglages qu’il faut et il tombent sous la main sans se perdre dans une multitude de panneaux. Même régler une couleur ou en retrouver une déjà utilisée tombe sous le sens, les utilisateurs de Photoshop comprendront. On peut tout faire, TOUT, même en étant à l’étroit sur l’iPhone. Le stylet prend tout son sens sur iPad et permet d’aller encore plus loin dans l’expression. Et je n’ai que le stylet v2 et un « vieil » iPad Pro 12,9”, le version précédente le M1. Le logiciel est véloce. Bref, un must have. However, since they've been bought by Adobe, they haven't upgraded their tools.Clone and Select both need improvement.But you can't complain. Many modern workflows rely on higher bit depth for professional-quality gradients, color accuracy, and non-destructive editing. I hope the developers consider updating the app to support 16‑bit images, as it would make Pixelmator far more capable for serious photo work. ### 5/5 — Impressive this is on a smartphone *2026-01-25* Great app I love the advanced selection tools for selective editing. ### 5/5 — Long Live Pixelmator! (An Elegy) *2026-01-13* This has been one of my favorite (and most-used) apps since I began tinkering with images and piecing things together - usually to share for a laugh or two among friends and family. I just read the news that, per 9to5 Mac, Apple stated the app is no longer receiving updates. This comes on the heels of also hearing that they are moving many of their in-house creativity and productivity sweet over to a freemium and/or subscription model. I find the loss of future support for this app to be a sad development and one which will negatively impact my iOS experience when the day finally comes that I can no longer install this on new devices. I find the transition of other apps by Apple (especially those previously designed by other developers) to subscription-based models to be hostile to the consumers that buy into its very ecosystem and experience. We are all systematically being priced out of the very technologies that decades of consumer-patronage enabled to be developed. Pixelmator will die. Apple will have killed it.
