### 3/5 — Needs family list improvements

*2025-06-05, version 2.2*

Extraordinary that when entering “lorikeet “ nothing comes up. I’ve seen this in many other searches. Probably a software issue but should attract your people. Otherwise it’s pretty good, cheers, John

### 4/5 — BC

*2025-01-07, version 2.1*

I tried to link photos and the app went into the ‘wheel of death’. There was no way to troubleshoot or ask questions.
I was not able to use the app as the ‘wheel of death’ kept going over night and for hours this morning.
Ps
Upon hearing from the developer following the above, it seems the issue is rare and was unable to be repeated by them. They suggested that I reload the app, which I did and this was successful. I’ve been happily using it since.

### 3/5 — The go-to for Australian birds.

*2023-12-20, version 1.3.5*

Easy to use digital version complements and improves on my 1984 copy of the hardback Field Guide. Minus 2 stars because I can’t share it with my wife using Family Sharing even though the App store says Family Sharing is supported

### 4/5 — Great app just one suggestion

*2023-10-15, version 1.3.5*

I really like the app, think the combo of pics and drawings is perfect. The compare feature is fantastic. The only recommendation I would have would be to split the different taxonomic groups with some sort of bar or separation (perhaps like the Morcombe app) making it easier to locate the bird faster and less confronting than a whole list of birds with no separation between groups. Other than that, my go to app after using Morcombe for years.

### 3/5 — Calls

*2023-06-29, version 1.3.5*

Rather disappointed that an app for 50 bucks doesn’t even have a call for common spices such as wedge tailed eagle

### 4/5 — Great app

*2022-11-13, version 1.3.5*

Easy to use….but sometimes I have seen or know that a bird is in a location but doesn’t show on the list of possible birds. For instance in Port Macquarie/Lake Cathie you will see Regent and Satin bowerbirds along with King parrots but they do not appear on the list!?!

### 3/5 — Good app, but family sharing stopped working.

*2022-09-15, version 1.3.5*

All of a sudden stopped been family shared with my wife who has been using it with me for years.
Did all the fault finding from Apple, other apps family shared, but this our most expensive app and do not feel like paying for it twice.

### 3/5 — Months of Year : Confusing

*2022-05-12, version 1.3.5*

First month of year: July
Last month of year: June

Please fix this; it’s awfully confusing when checking migratory birds.

### 4/5 — Finally an iPad mode!

*2020-01-02, version 1.3.1*

Been grumbling about this forever and they have fixed it. I love this app, but looking at it sideways on the iPad was a real pest. The navigation is more streamlined too, much better. I use this in conjunction with Morecombe because they have more info on birds such as feeding etc but this app seems to be more accurate about habitats and nomenclature.

### 5/5 — New Update

*2019-12-10, version 1.2.1*

Just did the recent update to the app and love the better functionality all round. Thanks

### 5/5 — Pizzey and Knight and more

*2019-12-09, version 1.2.1*

This app does a good job of replicating the Pizzey and Knight book, and adds many more features. It has a good selection of birding sites with a bird list for each, weather and other data. There are photos of birds as well as the original plates, and song and call recordings for most species. There is an identification tool which is also very powerful. Since I haven’t been to Australia yet I can’t comment on the location function, nor can I comment on the list function though it seems straightforward enough. If you like the P and K guide you should be very satisfied with the app. It costs a fair amount but is very comprehensive, and a lot lighter than the book!

### 5/5 — Brilliant update

*2019-12-01, version 1.2.1*

Better navigation, screen rotation, zoom function and the new My Photos album all contribute to a great update for this excellent resource for birders

### 4/5 — Needs update for iPadOS 13

*2019-10-11, version 1.2*

Since the introduction of the new operating system, the display is condensed into two thirds of the page. Otherwise a 5 star app.

### 3/5 — Hasn't been updated for 5 years

*2019-09-25, version 1.2*

Content is great, but as others have said, longstanding bugs and annoyances have not been fixed...and I get warnings on my iPhone that this app is so old it may not run properly. It does not run on iPad os13.1
I also now recommend the Morcombe app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Kingfishers

*2022-10-21, version 1.3.5*

Of the 10 odd Kingfishers that are in Australia only 4 are listed

### 1/5 — Needs update!!

*2018-08-26, version 1.2*

The search function has a bug where once you’ve selected and viewed a bird, when you go back to the search results it has reset therefore you need to re-type the bird name or re-enter a location (depending on which search function you used). This seems like an easy fix and it would pay for the developers to make this change as it has already been a dealbreaker for other people who I have shown the app to. Unfortunately it may be more worthwhile to use the Morcombe app although this would be a great shame due to the great illustrations within this pizzey and Knight app.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2016-12-26, version 1.1*

Got this app as a gift and each time I attempt to creat a list the app crashes. Have one list added so far and of 135 birds in the list only 6 will add to the main. Hardly achieving what it advertises as being able to do

### 1/5 — This app would be very good if it worked properly. Unstable on an iPad Mini

*2016-07-04, version 1.1*

The app froze on me after about ten minutes of using it. I had to delete the app but then I could not down load it again. I took a break then came back to it after stuffing about I managed to somehow down load it again. The times the app worked it only worked in portrait with the option to record a sighting of a bird appearing in landscape over the top of the bird I was looking at. Then all of a sudden the app switched to landscape and I could not get it to go back to portrait. Landscape does not work very well as it only uses about three quarters of the screen and cuts off the tails of the birds. I could go on but I will stop now. I'm going to request my money back.

### 1/5 — Unable to use

*2016-01-07, version 1.1*

Bought this app a couple of days ago in anticipation of an upcoming trip to Australia. I was hoping to use it to memorize some of the bird songs, but it always quits out on me just after opening. Desperately in need of a fix for this. Payed $32 for something currently unusable.

### 2/5 — Improvements required

*2022-08-03, version 1.3.5*

State filter highly inaccurate. Many birds listed under Tasmania that don’t occur.
Bit of a pain having to exit from a bird to hear its calls.
Great that real photos are used

### 2/5 — Lost bird info connection

*2021-08-18, version 1.3.5*

I have lost the link between bird info in locations to the birds in field guide and bird guide after update
I have been advised to remove app & reinstall but I’m anxious that I may have to pay again
I did purchase through the App Store
I have an iPhone 6 s
Cathie

### 2/5 — What is taking so long

*2019-11-15, version 1.2*

Needs update urgently. Pretty much unusable.

### 2/5 — Mangrove Heron

*2019-08-14, version 1.2*

I have downloaded your app and was disappointed when looking up my first bird, which we have in Runaway Bay, the Mangrove Heron was not listed. I have googled this beautiful bird and that is definitely what we have in our mangrove tree. Interesting sound as well. Can you please inform me why this might not be listed here. I look forward to hearing from you. Janet

### 2/5 — Update required

*2019-08-08, version 1.2*

Some bird calls don’t play now. It’s been a long, long time since the last update.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Don’t leave on holiday without it

*2026-01-28, version 2.2.1*

This was a present for my birthday and it exceeded my expectations. On holiday now in Qld where there are so many birds we don’t get in Victoria. Bird call feature sorts out the confusion of similar looking birds and the list feature tracks all the ones I’ve spotted. For me, as a medium range bird nerd it’s perfect.
There are a couple of birds missing though. Gang Gang Cockatoo
Eclectus Parrot

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-02-18, version 2.1.1*

A very good, user-friendly app. Takes advantage of a digital format by providing multiple photos as well as illustrations of each bird, compared to some other apps which only provide basic illustrations. More calls are being provided for most species. Taxonomy is kept up to date through app updates.

When I have had issues with some features, either due to my own incompetence or encountered an occasional bug, I contacted the app developers through the support feature and received a reply quickly and issues were resolved.

Well worth getting.

### 5/5 — My go to bird app!

*2025-01-23, version 2.1.1*

I’ve no always really liked this app and use it regularly.
Just wondering whether it’s my imagination or has an update changed the way the birds are listed? As we move around a lot, I use the My Location. I also use common names. It used to have, for example, all the honeyeater’s together etc. Now they seem to be all over the place so that when I know it’s a honeyeater, I have to scroll through rather than going to the one spot. I’d really love it if you could put it back to how it was. I feel this one important part could drop my star rating. EDIT: Thank you so much for getting back to me with help. The update must have changed the settings (because I certainly didn’t😁) have changed it now snd all is good! FANTASTIC APP!

### 5/5 — John

*2025-01-13, version 2.1.1*

I have used the Pizzey and Knight app for 8 years and have on both my laptop and iPhone. They have been very good transferring my app from one phone to another on several occasions. I have found the app to be excellent assisting me identify birds in both NSW and Queensland.

### 5/5 — Issues promptly resolved - thank you!

*2024-12-20, version 2.1*

Both my husband and myself have been using this app for years and we love it. Recently, we noticed a minor problem after an update, and after reporting it, it was promptly attended to. Great app and great service. Thank you

### 5/5 — Update has issues

*2024-11-30*

Both my husband’s and my app updated today. Since the app update. If we search for monarch, pied heron comes up, but white-eared monarch doesn’t. There seems to be a problem with the search function since the update. I’m sorry for putting this in this forum, but I don’t know how else to notify the people concerned

**Developer response:** Sorry about that but I can’t replicate your error when searching the full bird list. Please send an email to support@gibbonmm.com.au and I will assist you further.

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2022-09-18, version 1.3.5*

Wasn’t keen on this earlier as it didn’t look great, but recent updates made me bite the bullet and purchase it. I’m very impressed. Quite complex so it takes a bit of getting used to but heaps of great information along with bird call audio and physical appearance comparisons. And I keep finding different ways to view species details (via the Field Guide like in the books, and via the Bird Guide section) which is very helpful. I also like picking a location and then scrolling through the list of possible species for the area. Really enjoying this app!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2020-04-30, version 1.3.3*

Used a lot with the PK book we have travelled around a lot & find my list a great bonus
