However, there are some issues that become much more noticeable as you progress. The biggest problem is that at a certain point, progression seems to hit a wall. You can end up playing the exact same level over and over again without realistically being able to generate enough damage or survivability to complete it. This happens even while continuing to level up, upgrade equipment/attachments, and make sure your skills are appropriately leveled for the stage. What makes this particularly frustrating is that it doesn’t always feel like a normal difficulty increase. For example, I’ve specifically equipped abilities that restore HP whenever an enemy is destroyed, along with other skills intended to improve survivability. Despite that, there are moments where an enormous wave of enemies suddenly arrives immediately before a supercharged ability is ready to release. You can be surviving the level normally and then suddenly take such a massive amount of damage that the upgrades and HP-restoration mechanics don’t seem capable of compensating for it. After repeatedly encountering the same situation, progression starts to feel less dependent on strategy or upgrading and more like you’ve reached an artificial difficulty barrier. If the intention is for players to change their build or use a particular strategy at these points, the game should provide some indication of what needs to change. Otherwise, repeatedly upgrading while remaining stuck on the same stage becomes frustrating. I’m still giving the game 4 stars because the core game is genuinely fun, and I wouldn’t be spending this much time playing it if I didn’t enjoy it. I’d just really like to see the developers look into the difficulty scaling, enemy-wave timing, and whether certain stages are properly balanced against the upgrades available to the player. After a couple of months though, a few niggles become frustrating. The RNG means ads are unfortunately a big part of this, in order to get a decent build for a level - and they are all particularly long ads (1min plus) that require active engagement - you can’t just let the ad play out. Second - binary star, the other AI player is always super-weak, so there is a big lack of balance.
