It works in leaves and bark and flowers. 20% of the time it offers up different results when you snap the flower vs bark vs leaves. The only issue I have, is that since the last few updates, I can only use LeafSnap when I’m connected to wifi. So if I’m out in the field using mobile data I always get a “Network error” message. Obviously the field is where I need to use the app the most. My workaround is to photograph the plant or tree and use that photo once I’m back home and connected to wifi. Overall 9/10. Submitted a clear picture of leaf. It gave a very vague guess at what type of maple tree it might be, listing a handful of maples (wow). Charged for a full year before the trial period expired. I have wasted tremendous amounts of money on useless apps and subscriptions and somehow this unintentional full year subscription takes the cake. ### 1/5 — Not free *2026-05-04, version 2.79* Can’t even open the app without signing up for a subscription. Searches say there is a free version but I can’t navigate past the page that wants my credit card. I don’t mind apps that charge a fee. Once it starts you can watch your battery drain. The synchronization CANNOT be stopped. If you’re in the field you have to close the app frequently or kill your battery. Very disappointed. Sent them the iPhone information and screenshot FIVE days ago. But my first time it was slow and never diagnosed my plants issue. But my biggest issue is the misleading price of the yearly subscription. The prices shown in the App Store is different than what is offered in the App itself. The highest price in the App Store is $29.99. But in the App itself it’s $39.99. Don’t fall for their BS. Don’t listen to them about their 3 day trial. You get the trial and you are paying $40+ for a year. Didn’t help me as I expected but paid for the year anyway. I use it constantly for identifying plants and their care as well as identifying weeds, dangerous or toxic plants at many different stages of their growth. I’ve cross checked it a number of times and it has usually been accurate and improving as it ages.
