Paid money for it. Like you would with a console game. Now , all of a sudden there are ads in the games. Can you imagine buying a dvd or bluray or Console game and then all of a sudden there are ads in the middle of it? You have to stop and watch advertising , even though you paid for the game. That should be illegal or else give people a refund. I know some games are pay for play , fine advertise that up front and people can choose to buy it or not. But if you sell a game, if you take people’s money to buy it ourtight, don’t suddenly start putting ads in it after they’ve paid for and “owned” the game for years. It’s Greedy , dishonest and it ruins the game experience. Everything being injected with ads everywhere just ruins everything. Tv, games, movies , music. If the deal is that people play the game/watch tv etc for free and in exchange watch a couple ads…a reasonable small amount of ads… then fine. But don’t give people the option to buy and then sneakily put ads in later. There is a reason i dont download pay to play games. They suck. There is a reason i would rather make a purchase than have free thing and watch ads. Ads suck and waste my time. No “ Zombies on My Lawn” video when you beat the game. This is an unforgettable sin in my opinion, it would be like a version of “Portal” releasing without “Still Alive” 2. No cloud saves. This could be forgiven except there is a nasty bug that causes the game to no longer open after a while. The only fix is to uninstall and redownload load the game, THIS INCLUDES YOUR SAVE DATA! This means you effectively have to restart from scratch every month or so because there is NO WAY TO BACK UP YOUR SAVES, 3. The rather nasty bugs that cause the game to randomly crash or worse yet fail to open on loading. It’s pretty clear that PopCap has abandoned updating this version as these bugs have persisted for quite a while. Quite frankly if a company isn’t willing to keep the game updated for new hardware it should be delisted 4 . As of writing (02-02-2026) I see reviews from this January that are positive. Yet, as my title indicates, on my iPad Pro 13 inch 2025 M5 this game does not work really at all. I start Plants vs. Zombies and I’m just greeted with a PopCap name upside down, haha. Then the name is right side up, I give the game my age to determine whether they can legally data-mine me, the title main screen then comes up, the nostalgic music to anyone who has enjoyed this game in the past plays and it proceeds to seemingly load the game all the way - then it freezes basically. It just stays on the main screen indefinitely with it looking like the loading is finished. But, I never actually get into the game to play it unfortunately. With uninstalling this title I wondered if this would fix this issue but alas this was to no avail. At least it was fun to hear the theme song again with the groaning zombie. That’s as much fun as I could annoyingly have in Plants vs. Zombies HD today. Though, it does show that the last time the developer updated this game was at least 7-years ago. Which, to me, pretty well says that PopCap has abandoned this title on mobile devices at least. I enjoyed this game a whole bunch in the past, up until they got greedy and added or removed features in an attempt to try and ring every last cent that they could from customers. I can say that even if I’m a little bummed out that I cannot play this game for the foreseeable future.
