I have to delete and reinstall the app to clear it; that usually works so to restore playback. Using it with audiobookshelf. ### 2/5 — Good but buggy *2026-08-23, version 1.6.2* Clean interface and good audiobookshelf integration. Really struggling with the app retaining positions accurately on my 17 Pro though. The “go back x seconds after interruption” setting does whatever it wants regardless of my setting, and if I pause from the lock screen widget the playtime continues incrementing even though audio starts. Ending a timer from my Apple Watch while a book is playing seems to cause a random increment of 1-5 minutes. This is all with a downloaded local book, so not even a connectivity concern with my audiobookshelf server. I’ll be looking for another option despite paying for this one - keeping accurate positions, always, is my highest priority requirement for an audiobook player. ### 2/5 — Ok for smaller libraries *2026-07-31, version 1.6.1* I have a Library of more than 5000 books and it runs just fine on audiobook shelf. But this app really struggles to run effectively when it’s trying to sync the library. And eventually, it started cutting out about every 5 to 6 minutes and I’d have to restart the app. Ended up going to Prologue and there are no issues now. ### 4/5 — Leider bricht Wiedergabe oft ab *2026-07-16* Leider bricht die Wiedergabe auch bei heruntergeladen Medien oft beim übergang zur nächsten datei ab. Like something like a stale cash that requires you to completely log out and log back in if changes to Metadata or other things have been changed with the files. Happy to pay the one time fee. ### 3/5 — Usable but buggy *2026-04-30, version 1.6.0* I’ve been using this for a months now and while it gets the job done, I find myself having to restart it all the time due to issues. At the end of a book, it will just show an error message. Sometimes when I view a books contents, it’s all unpopulated. I found streaming was twitchy so I just listen to downloaded books. It’s not “bad”, but with a slow update schedule, your best bet is to find another app. Hopefully the developer will prioritize bug fixes sooner than later. ### 5/5 — The best app I ever bought *2026-04-29, version 1.6.0* Can’t believe that I got to have a lifetime subscription for essentially a cup of coffee. I love being able to listen to books as I am getting my stuff done or while I’m in the car. However, I frequently get the error where it says the server can’t be reached. It can take several weeks for the error to be resolved. Additionally, when this happens my place in the book is lost. ### 1/5 — Not Great When Things Change *2026-03-10, version 1.6.0* When listening on other devices or things like moving a library to another drive, Plappa just doesn’t sync, or if it does, you need to leave the app open for quite a while for it to figure it out I also had books it continued to insist I was still reading but had finished on another device It’s a good app, but its inability to remain synced lets it down in a big way ### 1/5 — Wouldn't Work *2025-08-01, version 1.5.2* Unfortunately this didn't work for me. It would connect fine, but then wouldn't show books. It would also freeze trying to search for a title. Das ist mit riesen Abstand die schlechteste Hörbuchapp die ich je benutzt habe. Die Wiedergabe stoppt alle paar Sekunden ohne grund. Die App zeigt an dass sie abspielt, der Zähler steht still und die Wiedergabe pausiert. Und da ist die Quelle egal, ob eine MP3, eine m4b oder ein hörbuch aus mehreren MP3. Da ich die Kaufversion nicht nutzen kann hätte ich nun gerne mein Geld zurück. After updating my app last weekend I have so many problems! If I try to move forward a chapter with the buttons from the play screen it locks up. It won’t play the book any more. I have to exit the app and reopen it to get the story to play. Clean UI, easy to integrate with AudioBookShelf. Sometimes I have issues downloading where I’ll try to start the download but it won’t go and I’ll have to reset the app then it works. Never had an issue with just streaming though. Apple Care Play support was the final feature I needed to kick Audible. I get books from libro.fm and highly recommend folks check them out for their DRM free content to integrate with plappa and wherever backend you have! ### 5/5 — Lovely app for audiobookshelf *2026-08-08, version 1.6.2* Simple, fast with a cute icon and interesting name. Have been using Plappa flawlessly with ABS for around 6 months. Now whenever I open a new audiobook that wasn’t opened previously, it’ll open the book but no chapters will load and you can’t play or download. Thought it was the audiobook or my server first, but after realizing no new audiobook would work, I tried Audiobooth and everything worked.
