### 1/5 — Great idea, but not reliable enough for the price

*2026-08-21*

I really wanted to like Plate Lens and paid around $80 specifically for the “ease of tracking.” Unfortunately, I’ve had to constantly double-check or manually enter information.

A 200-calorie bar scanned as 104 calories, while another food showed 220 instead of 130. Some products aren't in the database at all. Photo tracking doesn't let me adjust individual ingredients, only the entire meal. The app has also shown me at 87% of my calorie goal while the Coach said I was 680 calories over.

I also entered dairy as a dietary restriction, yet the Coach recommended Greek yogurt.

A 3-day trial wasn't enough time to discover these issues. When I requested a refund, it was denied and I was instead asked to extensively document the problems for their development team.

There are great ideas here, but for someone seriously tracking calories/macros, I don't think it's reliable enough yet—especially at this price.

**Developer response:** Hi Callie. We responded to your report the same day and immediately began working with our team on the issues you documented. This review was published while that work was underway, before the resulting corrections could be completed and before we received the PlateLens username needed to trace the remaining account-specific cases. Since then, we have released fixes so the Coach uses the same effective calorie-target logic as the app and consistently receives saved dietary restrictions when making recommendations. We remain ready to address the barcode and meal-photo cases using the evidence already provided, but we are still waiting for the @username requested by email to locate the relevant account and results; no additional testing or documentation is required. We hope you will update your review to reflect these corrections, our prompt response, and the current status of our support.

### 5/5 — So far so good.

*2026-08-15*

I love the layout and look of the app. It works very well so far and does exactly what I need it to do. I’ve tried several other Cal apps and this one is by far my favourite. If you’re looking for one, stop and give this one a try, you won’t be disappointed.

### 2/5 — Ne sait pas traquer certains aliments

*2026-07-29*

### 2/5 — Better apps available for less

*2026-07-25*

Still struggling to do the most basic of things. Significant issues with scanning barcodes. The AI fix/ edit will out right ignore your input 75% of the time. Most of the barcode scans that found the product, assumed I was consuming the entire package. Like an entire bottle of coffee creamer, or whole entire package of sliced cheese. Broken concept of servings even if you take a picture of the nutrition label. SMH.

### 5/5 — Very Great Free Option

*2026-07-14*

Honestly not too much to complain about since the app is free. It does suck that there is a daily limit of 2 for the manual type up and photo scan, but at least you can log previous meals.

### 1/5 — Very inaccurate

*2026-07-08*

This app is pretty terrible. Using the barcode scanner, it finds things but the nutritional info is completely wrong. Even if it’s right, after adding the food to a meal, it completely changes the nutritional info it initially showed. I didn’t even try the AI scanner but if the barcode scanner is this bad I have no faith in the ai image scanner

### 3/5 — Accuracy

*2026-07-02*

I like the interface of the app and the fact that I can enter manually, however the Ai photo feature is very inaccurate, only gets it right if you weight it correctly. For some reason chat got told me at some point it’s the most accurate app but it’s not saying that anymore lol

### 5/5 — User JA

*2026-06-10, version 1.3.3*

Really surprised me how good and easy this is, so far absolutely excellent have done this as was considering weight loss jabs but this was a last ditch attempt instead and so far it’s really helping.

### 5/5 — All around great app!

*2026-06-01*

This is the most accurate ai calorie tracker on the market. It has everything you could want, calorie counting, macro tracking, fasting timer, water intake reminders, a surprisingly good ai coach, and plenty more.

I enjoy the manual entry and voice entry over the photo tool! (Nothing wrong with the photo tool, I just like typing what I’m cooking as I go) The daily score is a great way to keep tabs on your overall eating habits for the day, it has been great motivation!

To add to the great app, the customer support is truly second to none. I reached out regarding special discounts. Not only did they accommodate the discount. They responded quickly and were more than helpful with all my questions and needs!

I hope they keep this app going strong! I could really see this taking over the calorie counting market!

### 1/5 — Dissatisfied and being refused correspondence about a refund.

*2026-05-29*

I am extremely dissatisfied with the PlateLens customer service. I have emailed support 3 times and have not received a single response, despite the website promising a response within 24 hours. The $80 charge for a year subscription went through without the promised notification at the end of the free trial. I would like to be refunded as I am dissatisfied the accuracy of the app and with my experience and do not want the year subscription.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.11 — 2026-09-01

Your PlateLens diary is now more precise, and Home is more personal.

• Set and edit when a meal actually happened, even when logging it later.
• Add exercise start times and durations, with smarter details from your description.
• Record additional health measurements, including blood glucose, from iPhone or Apple Watch, with optional Apple Health sync and clear history views.
• Let activity adjust your carbohydrate and fat targets as well as calories.
• Personalize Home by reordering health cards and choosing which ones appear.

Also includes smoother navigation, clearer charts, easier meal corrections, and reliability improvements throughout PlateLens.

### 1.4.9 — 2026-08-19

You can now put PlateLens right on your watch face. Pick any of your gauges — calories, protein, water, steps, or any of 30+ available — and see it at a glance, without opening the app.

• Complications for every face: circular, corner, inline and rectangular
• They update on their own through the day; no need to open the app on your watch
• Tap one to go straight to that gauge's detail
• Your face can show gauges that aren't on your Home screen
• The face tells you honestly when a number hasn't refreshed for a while, instead of showing a stale figure as current

Also: meals logged from your watch now count toward your league, and your league's status is explained more clearly while it's being assigned.

### 1.4.8 — 2026-08-15

PlateLens is now on Apple Watch.

Log meals, water, and exercise from your wrist, see calories, macros, steps, and hydration at a glance, and talk with your Coach using dictation.

Also new:
• Personal nutrient targets for Premium members.
• Hydration import from Apple Health, plus progress toward your daily water goal.
• New controls for in-app sounds and haptic feedback.
• Clearer nutrition details, a more focused Daily Score, and reliability improvements across logging and syncing.

### 1.4.6 — 2026-08-11

- You can now set personal daily minimum or maximum targets for tracked nutrients, including fiber, sodium, sugars, cholesterol, vitamins, minerals, and omega-3.
- Personal nutrient targets are now reflected consistently across gauges, Diary, Coach guidance, and weekly and monthly PDF reports.
- Change calorie, macro, and supported nutrient targets directly from the nutrient breakdown, with clearer navigation and easy reset options.
- Rebuilt Apple Health weight syncing to accurately handle measurements, dates, corrections, deletions, and multiple weigh-ins on the same day without creating duplicates.
- Weight history now clearly distinguishes Apple Health measurements from PlateLens entries. Health-managed weight and date remain protected while PlateLens progress photos and body-fat details are preserved.
- Improved weight logging and history reliability with duplicate-submit prevention, correct same-day ordering, localized dates, and safer editing and removal flows.
- Meal corrections now respect an exact total calorie value when you provide one.
- Improved the nutrient breakdown layout and fixed additional stability and interface issues.
