## What is Platterset?

Platterset is an offline turntable setup workbench for cartridge alignment, arm/cartridge resonance matching, platter-speed checks, anti-skate estimates, phono loading, service notes, and shareable setup reports.

Whether you are dialing in a starter deck or maintaining a serious listening room, Platterset keeps the core setup tools in one clean app. No account, no ads, no subscription, and no network connection required.

ALIGN YOUR CARTRIDGE
- Enter pivot-to-spindle distance and choose Baerwald, Lofgren B, or Stevenson geometry.
- See overhang, offset angle, effective length, null radii, a null-point diagram, and a tracking-error curve.
- Print a true 1:1 arc protractor PDF with calibration bars.
- Use IEC, DIN, 7-inch, Technics, Rega, SME, or built-in tonearm library presets.

MATCH ARM AND CARTRIDGE
- Calculate low-frequency resonance from effective mass, cartridge weight, and compliance.
- Convert 100 Hz compliance to a 10 Hz estimate.
- Get headshell-mass guidance when the pairing sits outside the ideal 8-11 Hz range.
- Check MM/MI capacitance and MC resistance loading.

CHECK SPEED AND SETUP HEALTH
- Tap revolutions to measure RPM error for 33 1/3, 45, 16 2/3, and 78 rpm.
- Use optional gyro speed-stability mode while the phone rests on the platter.
- Review strobe-disc references for 50 Hz and 60 Hz mains.
- Estimate anti-skate starting range from tracking force, stylus profile, and alignment geometry.

NEW IN 2.1: PRO SETUP AUDIT
The Report tab turns your bench readings into a stage-by-stage audit with readiness score, service grade, blockers, fix-first queue, next bench actions, setup prescription, and shareable PDF report. A custom six-tab interface keeps Align, Resonance, Speed, Report, Library, and Learn visible on iPhone and iPad.

REFERENCE AND RECORD KEEPING
- 80+ cartridge references and 40+ tonearm/integrated-arm references.
- Save turntable and cartridge setups with notes and stylus play hours.
- Built-in setup guides, diagrams, and glossary for common vinyl setup terms.

Platterset is private by design. It collects no data, tracks nothing, and keeps your setup notes on your device. Calculations are setup aids; always follow your equipment manufacturers' instructions and verify measurements on your own gear.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1 — 2026-06-27

Platterset 2.1 upgrades the app into a cleaner pro setup bench.

PRO SETUP AUDIT
• The Report tab now grades the full setup session with a readiness score, service grade, stage-by-stage map, required blockers, and a fix-first queue.
• Audit scoring combines alignment, resonance, speed, anti-skate, phono-loading status, and service-record completeness.
• Shareable setup reports now include the audit verdict and next bench actions.

BETTER IPHONE NAVIGATION
• Replaced the default six-tab iPhone layout with a custom tab bar so Align, Resonance, Speed, Report, Library, and Learn are always visible.
• Added deterministic screenshot/QA state for cleaner App Store review assets.

POLISH AND RELIABILITY
• Added 4 new audit-engine tests, bringing the suite to 149 passing tests.
• Updated review notes, support copy, privacy wording, and website content to match the current app.

### 2.0 — 2026-06-20

Platterset 2.0 turns your phone into a complete turntable setup bench.

• Printable Arc Protractor — print a dimensionally-exact protractor tailored to YOUR measured pivot-to-spindle distance, geometry (Baerwald / Löfgren B / Stevenson) and groove standard (IEC / DIN / 7-inch), with dual calibration bars to verify the print scale before you trust it.
• Platter Speed Stability — lay your phone on the platter and read live RPM, % deviation and speed stability with a live graph and a wow plot around the spindle. No extra hardware.
• Multi-geometry overlay, DIN and 7-inch presets, a polished PDF setup report, and a full accessibility pass (VoiceOver, Larger Text, Reduced-Motion strobe guard).

Still 100% offline — no account, no ads, no subscription, no permissions.

### 1.3 — 2026-06-18

Speed tab gains a real on-screen Strobe Vision mode (CADisplayLink-flashed disc + fine ± drift trim that reads out a precise signed speed error) alongside a rebuilt tap timer with live converging rpm, median/MAD stray-tap rejection, a wow/stability figure, and a lock indicator. Plus five accuracy/correctness fixes: sleep-safe monotonic tap clock, windowed outlier rejection, an AlignmentEngine NaN guard, a single shared speed-zone classifier, and corrected phono MM capacitance wording.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-15

Platterset 1.2 adds three features that complete the turntable setup workflow.

PHONO LOADING CALCULATOR
• New calculator tells you whether your MM/MI cartridge's capacitance loading is causing a treble resonance peak — and by how much.
• Enter your cartridge inductance (from the spec sheet), cable capacitance, and phono-stage input capacitance to see the resonant frequency and whether it's above 20 kHz (inaudible) or in the audible range.
• For MC cartridges, enter the coil impedance and stage load resistance to check whether the load ratio is in the sensible 20–47× range.
• Launched from the Resonance tab or directly from any cartridge detail page. Popular Ortofon 2M and Audio-Technica VM95 cartridges now include inductance data that pre-fills the calculator automatically.

ANTI-SKATE ESTIMATOR
• The Align tab now includes a physics-based anti-skate estimate: enter your tracking force (VTF) and stylus profile and Platterset calculates the lateral skating force from your offset angle, giving you a starting point in grams.
• Includes a practical range (65–90% of VTF) and stylus-profile guidance for conical, elliptical, line-contact, and Shibata tips.

SETUP NOTES
• Every saved turntable setup in My Gear now includes a free-text Notes field — jot down the date of your last alignment, belt change, stylus replacement, or any service notes. Notes survive across app updates and are shown in the setup detail view.

### 1.1 — 2026-06-12

Platterset 1.1 adds a new pro setup report.

• New Report tab with a setup score built from alignment, resonance, speed, and loaded gear
• Share or copy a service-note style report with overhang, offset, null radii, resonance, mass guidance, and speed audit
• Speed tap-timer results now feed the report automatically
• Added a pro checklist for tightening, force recheck, and speed re-measurement
• Updated review notes and metadata for the new workflow
