Play with letters, sounds and words together with Alfie Atkins. Children love learning new things through play. This app, Play ABC, Alfie Atkins, stimulates children's language learning skills by clearly connecting the function and purpose of letters in an experimental, playful way. Alfie has some extraordinary devices in his room: a letter tracer, a word machine and a puppet theatre. With the letter tracer, children will learn the appearance and sound of all letters and train their motor skills and muscle memory by drawing and tracing letters on the screen. Using Alfie's homemade word machine, children will spell new words using phonemes and letter tips. All new words are sent to the puppet theatre, where children use their creativity and imagination to tell fantastic stories. This playloop, with concrete results, has a motivational effect and helps children develop their language skills at their own pace. Vor allem Kinder mit Lernschwierigkeiten könnten von einer solchen Verbesserung profitieren. Zweitens: die app ist überladen mit bewegten Animationen. Insbesondere für Epileptiker gefährlich, weil dies einen Anfall auslösen kann. manchmal wäre auch weniger und kontrastreicher mehr. so könnten auch Sehbehinderte mehr erkennen. Im übertragnene Sinne: " Danke für die Rezension, wir nehmen jedes Feedback ernst (...), allerdungs haben Fachleute diese App konstruiert und wir haben sie viel getestet. Wir sagen nicht, dass diese App alleine hilfreich ist zum Lernen, und das andere Ansätze auch ok sind, aber wir finden unseren halt gut (...)" Zusammengefasst: Hier wird nicht auf konkrete Punkte eingegangen und argumentiert, sondern die Entwickler sind resistent gegen Kritik und blocken alles mit ihrer Pauschalantwort ab. Und dann noch auf englisch,wessen nicht jeder User eine deutschsprachigen App mächtig ist. ### 1/5 — Sicherlich keine Sprachförderung, nur Spaß aber ohne zu erwartenden Lerneffekt *2021-01-15* Als Früh- und Medienpädagogin bin ich doch sehr irritiert, wie diese App so zustande kommen konnte, obwohl lt. Beschreibung fachlich gebildete Menschen diese entwickelt haben. Denn es gibt doch viel zu kritisieren: + die Schreibrichtung der Buchstaben wird beachtet - die sprachliche Begleitung durch die App ist unzureichend. Wenn ich auf das Puppentheater klicke, sollte auch „Puppentheater“ gesagt werden. Genauso bei den anderen Features auch- sie werden beim Anklicken einfach nicht versprachlicht! - Namen werden aus Buchstaben zusammengesetzt: 1. wäre es sinnvoll, das Wortbild (zb. HAMDI) zuerst einmal nur nachzubilden, während die Vorlage auch da ist. 2. ist es größter Unsinn, dass die Buchstaben „lustig“ ausgesprochen werden und v.a. wiederholt ausgesprochen werden (bspw. L= llllllll l l in verschiedenen Tonhöhen), denn es ist ja nur EIN Buchstabe, der eingesetzt wurde, und nicht acht. Genauso ist es dann nicht nachvollziehbar, wie sich der Name aus so vielen Buchstaben zusammensetzt, akustisch versteht man HAMDI nicht, sonder hört nur HHH H H AA AAA MMM D DDDDD III I III...). + Bei dem Videoalphabet, werden die Buchstaben in Schreibrichtung gezeigt, ABER: - das Alphabet fängt immer bei A an, es gibt keine Möglichkeit einen Buchstaben zu überspringen. Wie soll denn ein Kind überhaupt mal zum W kommen, wenn die Geduld vorher abhanden kommt? - die Symbole/ Bilder, mit denen die Buchstaben nachgezogen werden, haben NICHTS mit dem Buchstaben zu tun. Bspw.: Das I liegt nur auf einer Waffel. Da wäre es hilfreich, wenn zumindest die Symbole mit dem Buchstaben anfangen würden. - der Elternbereich ist nur auf englisch -Allgemein wird auf dem Startbildschirm nicht klar, welche Objekte angetippt werden können und sollen - es ist nicht nachvollziehbar, was warum passiert (wenn man HAMDI schreiben kann, kann ich mit ihm im Puppentheater spielen, wenn ich ihn zweimal schreiben kann, bekommt er eine Medaille, wenn ich ihn dreimal schreiben kann, dann?... auch hier wäre eine sprachliche Erklärung hilfreich) - die Namen werden nur mit Großbuchstaben geschrieben, obwohl das nicht stimmt - wenn man selbst die Buchstaben schreiben möchte, wird die Schreibrichtung vorgegeben, man KANN gar nicht anders als es richtig zu machen. Da wird das aber nicht gelernt, schon gar nicht die Hand-Augen-Koordination, wie angegeben. - es werden nur prototypische Darstellungsbilder der Buchstaben gezeigt, für das Lesenlernen ist es aber wichtig, mehrere Erscheinungsbilder (Handschrift, verschiedene Schriftarten) eines Buchstaben zu erkennen (hilfreiches Spiel wäre z.B, suche alle D und d in dieser Buchstabensuppe). + schöne Aufmachung + auf bewegte Bilder und unnötig aufregende Musik wird verzichtet Alles in allem kann ich nicht verstehen, wie diese App von Fachleuten so entwickelt werden konnte. Weiterhin finde ich es in der Beschreibung irreführend, Fachbegriffe zu benennen. Dies macht für mich den Eindruck, dass dadurch die App als Bildungs-App seriös gemacht werden soll, was sie für mich schlichtweg nicht ist. Auch in der neusten Version das Hinzufügen von Videos mit Kleinbuchstaben als „pädagogische Funktion“ zu betiteln, finde ich plakativ. **Developer response:** Hi, thanks for your comments. We believe that children (as well as adults) learn really efficiently through gamification - when pedagogic tasks are presented and carried out in a manner that use game mechanics to inspire and increase motivation.
