But after switching to Apple I think I'm going to need to find a new player. Things that don't work: 1) Nothing gets marked as "played", even after fully playing through the episode and beginning the next one. This means "auto-delete when played" setting doesn't work. 2) It only plays based on the download order, not the playlist order. When combined with the first bug that means it frequently will start replaying an episode you already completed. 3) The "switch to series grid view" setting in the "following" tab doesn't stick. It resets to chronological episode view every time you leave the tab. ### 2/5 — No way to export podcast subscriptions *2026-05-02* This app used to be great when it was getting regular updates. But over the years it’s gotten buggier and its available features simply haven’t kept up with the competition. It seems the app owners know this, and so have decided to quietly remove the ability to export your podcast subscriptions out of the app via OPML. You can still “Import” via OPML, but the option to export was at some point entirely removed. This appears to be the case in another podcast app they own as well - Breaker. Basically they’ve trapped users into staying because they know how much of a hassle it is to manually re-add each podcast subscription in a new app. Which would be fine if they were regularly updating either of these apps, fixing bugs, and adding new features. But they’re not, because “Maple Media” isn’t a group of app developers - they’re just scam artists who buy popular apps for less than their worth so that they can continue to profit off of the original developer’s hard work while doing nothing except collecting premium subscription fees for themselves. They provide nothing for the users. The apps they own are essentially “dead apps” that stopped receiving updates and new features ages ago - but they keep them listed on the App Store so they can continue to profit off of them. So be forewarned if you download this app, because your’re actually falling into a trap that you later won’t be able to get out of. **Developer response:** Thanks for sharing the detailed feedback. Exporting subscriptions is still supported in OPML. In the app, check Settings > Connection > Export subscriptions. If you do not see that option, your subscriptions OPML is also available on the web at player.fm If the export option is missing or you run into bugs, reach us via Settings > About > Contact Us and include your username plus a screenshot of what you see under Connection. ### 2/5 — Premium has ads *2026-02-15, version 5.2.10* It used to be that if you spent for a premium subscription you could use the app ad-free. They are still charging me the same price for that subscription but the app is loaded with ads anyway in the form of “sponsored podcasts”, “recommended apps”, and now there’s huge pop-up ads again. I’m not going to renew my sub for next year. ### 4/5 — They’ve greatly improved this apps stability in iOS *2025-11-24, version 5.2.8* For the past 5 years I have not used Player FM except in a web browser. So no app. It was great in Android, but awful in iOS. I would have rated it a 2 at that time. This weekend I started thinking about getting a new phone, and I was leaning toward Samsung because of this player. Sounds nuts, I know. But I really missed the player and haven’t listened to a lot of podcasts over the past 5 yrs because of the Apple player. Before making a decision, I decided to see if Player FM was still crashing frequently, still losing my place. I am happy to say that it hasn’t crashed once! It takes a while to load and there are some unnecessary splash screens with suggested podcasts upon opening and even if you leave the app for just a few minutes, but I’m so glad that once I get past that and find what I’m looking for, it’s great. It doesn’t play that nicely with CarPlay, but I can get past that. Now I can stay with the iPhone if I choose! (There are other things I miss about Android but this was one of the top 2. )Thanks for what I’m sure was a lot of hard work to fix the issues. Wish I’d tried the app again sooner! Edit: I spoke too soon. Oddly, it doesn’t like when I click on screenshots in my Files folder. I’m not sure how clicking those files affects the player, but it does, and if I do it too many times, the app crashes. I’m hoping it’s because I have an old phone XR with I think 4 GB of RAM and when I get a new phone that issue won’t happen. ### 3/5 — Close but no cigar *2025-08-12, version 5.2.6* Player FM has all the features I want as a power user, but the quality is not on par. I am a paid subscriber and literally cannot use the very service I paid for. ### 2/5 — Bad user experience due to bugs *2025-01-06* I have used this app very happily for quite some time on another platform but on iOS experience two major bugs: when swiping over the list of podcast the focus is not where my finger is, it’s mostly selecting other podcast that I haven’t clicked on. But I stopped using it last year in favor of another beta app. Unfortunately, that other app stopped so I went back here and come to find out that they have still not fixed the UI bugs. It has a really annoying feature when you open it that always wants to suggest a podcast. Hard to see the skip button because it’s usually on the treadmill or in the car.
