### 2/5 — Sometimes no good

*2026-03-10, version 3.4.1*

Doesn’t always play sounds when using app. Works better in an android.

### 2/5 — App out of sync with my piano

*2026-02-23, version 3.4.0*

Hi I have just downloaded the Background Sessions app but I am having 2 main issues.

1. I keep getting the message saying I am in silent mode. I have checked my settings and I am definitely not in silent mode.
2. When I play a key the app is slightly late in playing the note

### 4/5 — VPN issues…

*2026-02-17, version 3.4.0*

Living on the other side…I need to login my vpn just to connect.

### 2/5 — Life time policy not worth it at all

*2026-02-07, version 3.4.0*

I made a purchase of life time but they didn’t specify in their policy after 2 years I’d lose access to all their songs. This is a scam.

### 2/5 — Liked the app, but after iPad update to v26.2, MIDI no longer connects

*2026-01-14, version 3.3.2*

Liked the app, but after iPad update to v26.2, MIDI no longer connects keyboard and app.

### 3/5 — Content is great but the app is terrible

*2025-12-01, version 3.3.1*

I have repeatedly had issues logging in, it just keeps kicking me back to the login page.

When I eventually get access, it works fine, until I turn it off and come back later. MIDI is no longer recognised.. I reload the app and just get a blank white screen.

I will be cancelling the free trial

### 2/5 — Does not work well with mic

*2025-11-30, version 3.3.1*

I tried this program on microphone mode to analyze your play and it does not work. I have yet to connect it directly with my iPad - my keyboard is probably the issue there

### 5/5 — Love it, but…

*2025-11-29, version 3.3.1*

I’m a fan of Playground Sessions and have a lifetime membership, but whether the app works on any given day is a gamble. It’s either a white screen or just crashes.

### 2/5 — Does not work well with mic

*2025-11-14, version 3.2.2*

I tried this program on microphone mode to analyze your play and it does not work. I have yet to connect it directly with my iPad - my keyboard is probably the issue there

### 5/5 — The start

*2025-10-25, version 3.2.2*

Everything is will explained
Just need to practice

### 5/5 — So easily learn. Fantastic app

*2025-10-05, version 3.1.0*

I really like how easy the app makes it to find content I find exciting to learn. I’m a beginner and the teachers are really great, easy to follow and understand. The interactivity is great, and I love the tracking so I always know where i am. The songs and background music are brilliant. I give the app a 100%, the same score it gave me earlier today when playing Imagine.

### 1/5 — Not accurate

*2026-08-16, version 3.4.3*

Beware - It requires sign on and immediate payment account. NOT free - definitely IN APP Purchase

### 1/5 — Scam

*2026-05-30, version 3.4.1*

So l just found out the app is free but you have to pay to do anything

### 1/5 — Playground

*2026-05-15, version 3.4.1*

Hi the app tells me it's no charge in app but I have to pay 20+ dollars!!!

### 1/5 — Another subscription

*2026-03-22, version 3.4.1*

In app purchases not specified but need an account then sign up for another subscription to proceed. Dark pattern.

### 1/5 — Worthless for acoustic piano

*2026-02-01, version 3.4.0*

I purchased Playground to improve my piano skills. While I am experienced player, I wanted to start over with better basics. The concept is great but the program refuses to recognize when I play the correct notes on a very recently tuned Steinway. I am using it on an iPad and made sure the mic is not blocked. There does not appear to be any way to fix this issue

### 1/5 — App changes keyboard voice

*2025-12-08, version 3.3.1*

Latest update produces keyboard tone independent of keyboard voice settings

### 1/5 — Signing in?

*2025-12-06, version 3.3.1*

Signing in loops me back through intro process. Can’t use.

### 1/5 — Can’t open the app!

*2025-09-27, version 3.1.0*

Not going anywhere past login on iPhone. If the same issue will occur on iPad also I would cancel subscription.

### 1/5 — You have to pay for songs

*2025-09-20, version 3.1.0*

You have to pay for songs like what it sup is

### 1/5 — Has potential

*2025-09-15, version 3.1.0*

This could have been the best piano lesson app ever. It took me so far in only a few weeks… And then it stopped working and was told that i was using the maximum devices allowed. I only used my tablet and i had to uninstall and reinstall every time.
Too much bugs.
Fix them please

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Is great but makes me too angry

*2026-07-21, version 3.4.3*

It do really work very well, very usable but it gives me random pink marking on each notes I press, because it thinks I’m rushing but I’m not. And it makes me angry some times. This App needs some more working on.

### 5/5 — 👌

*2026-06-14, version 3.4.1*

I was so impressed with their customer service! They helped me troubleshoot an issue with my account and made it so easy!

### 5/5 — My Wife Loves This App

*2026-05-17, version 3.4.1*

This app has been really helpful for my wife to learn how to play the piano. She likes the video instruction. She can learn at her own pace.

### 5/5 — Incredibly Motivating

*2026-03-31, version 3.4.1*

Playground is not only fun, it is addictive. The content is perfectly paced to make sure you succeed, even if you are a total beginner, and the production value is second to none. The instructors and instruction videos are clear and very helpful. The Bootcamps teach the basics in baby steps and you’re playing along with great music right from the start. The subscription price is incredibly fair for all you get.

### 5/5 — LOVE

*2026-03-07, version 3.4.1*

I LOVE this app because 1) It’s free, 2) No annoying adds, and 3) It makes piano so easy to learn! I recommend this app to anyone and EVERYONE.

### 5/5 — NO SUBSCRIPTIONS

*2026-02-11, version 3.4.0*

Their are literally no subscriptions for this piano app I love it so much because of that one thing but also it accurately teaches me how to play piano

### 5/5 — Old dog doing new tricks

*2026-01-17, version 3.4.0*

Just before COVID I started traditional piano lessons. Then everything stopped and I had nothing but Chopsticks and Twinkle Star. Great if I was 6, pushing 50 in 4 more weeks. I got a deal on lifetime membership several years ago as a gift. Today I started again and love it. If you are not sure try traditional training, then get this app and keep going. Well worth the money and return to your heart.

### 5/5 — Truly the best app for beginners

*2026-01-14, version 3.3.2*

A couple years ago I took my winter vacation to test all trials for all free and paid for piano apps I could find. I would spend at least a day with each app and at the end of 7 days I would pick an app to buy and to use to learn the piano. The side scrolling apps are fun at first but they get you dizzy at faster speeds and they fail at training your eye at jumping from the end of the page to the next line when reading real music, after a day or two I knew those weren’t for me. After my 7 days of trials I bough the lifetime subscription. There really is no comparable app out there. The one feature I saw elsewhere that I wish was here was the ability to wait for input and move forward when the right input is pressed. I would like that for when you are learning something and still find it hard in the slow speed but even without that I have enjoyed using the app. Still stuck at the intermediate levels, they require way more practice and dedication to get past at full tempo. I have spent over 75 hours with the app (I bet way more but maybe it only counts when you are practicing interactively, not just to read the music) and still recommend it everywhere I go.

### 5/5 — AMAZING

*2025-12-07, version 3.3.1*

It Really helps to learn peano

### 5/5 — Best Piano App Ever!

*2025-12-01, version 3.3.1*

It was the year 2020; the year of COVID. Haha. I had always wanted to learn to play the piano and this seemed like the best time. I mean, I had a few weeks off of work, right? (More like a year!). I was over 50 years old when I started this app, btw.

I tried learning from a teacher, but I love the independence plus the support I get from this app so I can learn whenever I want to and at my own pace. I get to learn what I want to and not what they feel it’s important. I just want to play piano!

I researched many piano learning apps and eventually landed on this one for many reasons.

I trusted that it was started by a music legend, Quincy Jones and so many talented musicians taught video lessons to you in the app like Harry Connick Jr.

The video lessons re invaluable because they teach you techniques you wouldn’t get from just the sheet music.

There are hundreds of songs in the library. When you find a song you like and click on it, a window comes up showing you all the buying options for that song. One thing to understand is this…..let’s say you want to start at the beginning level….you can purchase the song at the rookie level and decide whether you want easy, moderate or hard. In addition to rookie, you can also choose Intermediate or Advanced and they have the same levels as well.

Even if you start at rookie easy, almost every song comes with a backing track that you can choose to play with the song, or play without the backing track. At the rookie level, I really enjoy this feature because it added all the texture and richness that was missing because th song is simple. ( as it is supposed to be for a rookie, haha). It still sounded awesome playing Cold Plays, Yellow as a beginner with the band accompanying me.

To begin with, when you choose a song and then download to play, you will notice that there are different lessons within the song. Some songs have a few lessons, while some have more. Lesson one is usually only the right hand and usually n intro.

Lesson two is usually the left hand of the intro. Lesson three is the two hands put together for the intro. It continues like this through the entire song. You will learn a short piece of the song,on your right hand and then the left and then together. The final lesson is a performance.

While you are playing, the app is tracking each note and your timing. After each lesson, it will give you a percentage score for how you did on that lesson. You can also see your mistakes on the sheet music which is great because sometimes I don’t realize that I am playing the wrong note until I see that I am getting it incorrect on the sheet music!

Within each song there are many options I love. In the sheet music, you can click on the notes or chords and the notes to be played will be highlighted on the onscreen piano below the music. If I’m unsure of the exact keys, this clears it up instantly.

You can also click on the sheet music and create a line and then drag this line to create a space that you would like to isolate and then when you press play, the app will only play this isolated piece of music either once or on repeat. This is valuable for learning certain areas I am struggling with.

You can also speed up or slow down any piece of music. again, valuable for learning a difficult piece.

In every song there are these features….

*for every note/chord you can choose to see the finger placement or the chord name or turn this feature off.

*the backing track can be turned on/off

*metronome can be used while learning the song and then turned off

*you can choose to have the right hand, left hand or both play with you during the song This feature can be turned off

There are other things that can be adjusted within each song such as hiding the piano and volume control.

I highly recommend this app. I went from playing Go Tell Aunt Rhody in adult piano books to playing You Raise Me Up with an entire orchestra backing me up! Haha

Oh…I also got to,participate in the largest global digital piano recital through this app! That was so much fun. Participated as a rookie That was when I played You Raise Me Up. This was during COVID.

Buy it, it is inexpensive for everything that you get and the experience is priceless. I am proud of my progress and love to sit at the piano now and play Say Something in advanced mode or Christmastime is here.

You can’t go wrong with this app!
