You have to pay to write, and you are in read only mode when you download this app. Very expensive. Do not recommend.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We do now offer a free allowance for users, but unlimited writing is still a paid-for feature. For context, it takes hundreds of hours to develop and maintain a complex app like this, so we do need to charge a fee unfortunately.

Hello, I‘m afraid I have to leave a bad review on this app. You can do absolutely nothing in there accept from viewing a blank page and blank notes because you’re not able to edit if you don’t subscribe it for 2€ per month or sth. I am quite disappointed, the structure of the app was just what I was looking for but not like that. Good luck with costumers who want to spend money on that.

I’m so incredibly happy with this app. I am writing my complete novel with it and it has been so effortless. It keeps it very neat and tidy for me, as it separates each chapter with unlimited space. It’s made writing so enjoyable for me. There are separate sections for notes, artwork, and outlines. And space for as many books as you’d like- all saved with iCloud. I close and open right where I left off. There are even book outlines made for different types of books if you need it. If I could give more stars I would. Thank you for creating this app🙏

.. if the developer does something very sensible.

Move it to a one-time purchase or, an annual thing to continue receiving updates, but you keep what you have if you don't upgrade.

This is what these apps are, by virtue, they are not the type of app people want to pay a monthly/annual subscription for.

I honestly believe so many apps out there can be far more sucessful if they get this subscription thing out of their heads.

Human beings can only stand so many subscriptions in their lives, & these wee apps are never going to be important enough for it.

Keep it simple, keep it sane, one price for an app, sell more volume, get more customers, and ignore the crowd of greedy people subscriptions!

Used this to try to get back into writing- which made it a real kick in the teeth when 2 days of work got deleted.  It seemed like a glitch that I could’ve blamed on something else, but no.  I picked it back up cautiously and tried again.  Upon closing the app all my writing is deleted & the backups are useless.

**Developer response:** Finn, I’m sorry you encountered this problem. There was a rare bug where text would be saved under a file’s previous name, rather than the current. This would make it seem like the text was gone, but it was actually on disk under a different name that was not visible within the UI. Please email contact@plotten.net for assistance in recovering your work. Again, apologies that you had this trouble.

I spent eight hours writing my first book on Plotten, only to find that all my work had disappeared. The app's last backup at 1 am contained no data, and neither did any of the version histories. This is a serious flaw for a writing app, where data security should be paramount.

Despite the app's user-friendly design, the loss of my manuscript due to unreliable backup and versioning systems is unacceptable. I reached out to customer support but have yet to receive a solution or even an acknowledgment of the issue.

For those considering Plotten, be wary of the app's backup capabilities. Until the developers address this critical issue, I cannot recommend Plotten for any serious writing endeavor.

**Developer response:** Chris, please check your junk folder as we’ve reached out a couple of times regarding these problems. I’d like to apologise—data loss should never happen. This is not a widespread issue, and we use standard iCloud syncing functionality, so we’ll need to look at your particular environment in order to suggest a solution. Please check your mail, thank you. At the same time, we will make our backups more aggressive to prevent any future reoccurrence.

I like the fact that i can use Plotten for documents other than film scripts and/or novel writing. It is very helpful for my PODCAST, as i write first a story and divide the document in sections. I also add characters as they will make part of the Podcast. Everything is perfect for me using this program. Highly Recommended to Podcasters!

to ‘do’ anything.. so you cant actually test it without ‘signing up’ for the thing!

I’d buy this. As a one off purchase. I’m not sure I see how many years it will last in the wake of all things AI, therefore instead of £18.00 per year for say, 3-4 years, maybe £15.00-£20.00 as a one off payment might earn the developer a lot more than the out of date, out of touch, out of reach - Subscription model everyone loves to hate because, well, it’s unrealistic to have 100 subscriptions per month that average £5.00, unless, of course you have so much money, you’d have an assistant here, shopping for your apps and then you wouldn’t even be reading this anyway. 

TL;DR:
App looks good. 
‘could’ be very helpful.
Really should be a one time payment 
Of about £15-20.00.
