## What is PlotZone?

Type it, draw it, measure it, export it. Nothing is collected, and nothing leaves your phone.

Built for drone pilots, glider and free-flight pilots, search and rescue teams, surveyors and military personnel.

ONE-TIME PURCHASE

Bought once, yours for good. No subscription, no in-app purchase, no sign-up, no password.

MISSIONS

Group your points and zones by operation. Each point carries a name, its coordinates, a radius in meters, feet or nautical miles, and a color. Drag it on the map. One tap undoes it if you got it wrong. Duplicate a whole mission to build a variant without typing it again.

BULL'S EYE

Pick one point as the reference. PlotZone gives the bearing and distance from it to every other point, and draws rings every 10 NM out to 120 NM, with radials every 30°. The reference travels inside the exported file, so whoever receives the mission reads the same bearings you do.

COORDINATES

Five formats, both ways: decimal degrees, degrees-minutes-seconds, degrees-decimal-minutes, MGRS and UTM. Tap the map to read a position, tap a result to copy it. Five geodetic datums to choose from: WGS84, NAD27, ED50, OSGB36 and AGD66. Every coordinate is read and typed in the one you pick.

ZONES

Type the vertices in your usual coordinate format, or draw the polygon with your finger. Adjust each vertex, watch its area and perimeter as you go, then save the zone into a mission to keep it.

AIRSPACE

Load your working area from your own files, whether they hold a georeferenced chart or plain outlines. PlotZone reads KMZ, KML, OpenAir and GeoJSON. Outlines, markers and names come in on a single load. Show several areas at once, set their opacity, turn each on and off with one tap.

MGRS GRID

Draw the MGRS grid at 1 km or 100 m, labeled the way a military map is: grid zone, 100 km square, and the principal digits of every line, read right then up. At a grid zone junction the grid switches zones with you.

The GARS grid overlays the same way, at 30' or 15', with its designators.

YOUR LIVE POSITION

Your position is followed live, with its accuracy, in the format you chose. Tap a point, or any spot, and the top of the screen gives the bearing and distance from where you stand, updated as you walk, with a line drawn to it.

TRUE OR MAGNETIC

Bearings in true north, as on a map, or in magnetic north, as on a compass. The declination is the one where you stand: the device reports it, or you set it by hand. Nothing is downloaded.

MEASURE

Two taps, on the map or on points you have plotted, give the bearing and the distance between them, at the top of the screen.

IMPORT AND EXPORT

Export a mission to back it up or pass it on, and import it back with nothing lost. Eight formats: PlotZone (.json), a plain-text brief, CSV for a spreadsheet, GPX for a handheld GPS, KML and KMZ for Google Earth, GeoJSON for mapping tools, OpenAir for flight computers.

BASE MAPS

Three maps from Apple: satellite, hybrid and standard. Their imagery needs a connection the first time an area is shown. You can also import your own map in MBTiles: its tiles are copied to the device and drawn over Apple's, so your sector stays readable with no network at all.

ACCESSIBILITY

Every control is named for VoiceOver, symbols included.

PRIVACY

PlotZone does not collect, store or transmit any personal data. Your missions are saved on your device alone. Your GPS position is used only to draw you on the map. It is never transmitted or shared. No account, no tracker, no analytics, no advertising.

Available in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Chinese.

DISCLAIMER

Coordinate conversions and distance calculations are provided for guidance. Always check your data against an official source before any critical use. PlotZone is not a certified navigation instrument.

### 5/5 — App is Great!

*2026-10-20*

I use this app to convert my grids on the field. It works well.
Moreover I can upload an area which allows me to visually scan inside.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-10-11

Your position, followed live. The GPS button used to take a single fix, which went stale the moment you walked. It now follows you, with its accuracy shown.

Where to go. Tap a point of the mission, or any spot on the map, while your position is followed: bearing and distance from where you stand, updated at every step, with a line drawn to it. The last thing you tap is the target.

True or magnetic. Bearings now read in either north, your choice in the settings. The declination is the one where you stand, reported by the device itself, so nothing is downloaded and nothing is modelled.

The MGRS grid, at last. The app is named for MGRS and UTM and could not draw their grid. It draws it now, at 1 km or 100 m, labelled like a military map: grid zone, 100 km square and the principal digits of every line. At a grid zone junction the grid switches zones with you, so the digits you read always match your position.

Four new export formats. A plain-text brief you can paste straight into a message, with bearings and distances. CSV for a spreadsheet. GeoJSON for QGIS and mapping tools. OpenAir for flight computers, where a zone becomes a polygon and a point with a radius becomes a circle.

The Bull's Eye now belongs to the mission. It survives closing the app, each mission keeps its own, and it travels inside the exported file, so whoever receives the mission reads the same bearings you do.

Duplicate a mission from its menu, points, zones and all, to build a variant without typing it again.

The point-plotting map offers the same three base maps as the map tab, and remembers the choice across both.

Tap a point and its label stays open until you tap elsewhere. It used to close on its own after half a second.

Larger text. Everything follows the iOS accessibility setting, except the round map buttons, which carry a symbol rather than text.

Your own maps, offline. Import an MBTiles file: its tiles are copied to the device and drawn over Apple's map, so your sector stays readable with no network at all. A long press on its name deletes it along with its tiles.

Five geodetic datums. WGS84, NAD27, ED50, OSGB36 and AGD66. Every coordinate is read and typed in the one you pick, for the chart you actually hold.

Files open straight from Mail. A mission, an airspace file or an offline map received by message or AirDrop now opens in PlotZone, without hunting for it in the file picker. A KML can be either a mission or an airspace: the app asks rather than guesses.

A point from a bearing and a distance. From any point of the mission, give a bearing and a distance, and the new point is plotted. The way a position is passed on the radio.

The declination by hand. The app finds it on its own, but you can now type it yourself in the settings: 2 for 2° east, -5 for 5° west. Metal nearby deflects any compass, and your own value beats a deflected one. A bearing is then given magnetic.

Measure between two plotted points. The measure tool only saw taps on the map, because a marker keeps the touch: tapping a plotted point now feeds it too.

Reading back what it writes. Degrees decimals shown as 45.866477°N are now accepted as typed input, which they were not. A radius in nautical miles prints NM, not nm. And the brief says that its bearings are true, since it is read elsewhere.

Wording. The Bull's Eye gives a bearing, not a heading, and the settings note now says so in every language that had it wrong. The base map labels were showing in French to everyone; they are translated.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-10

ZONES

A zone can now be typed, one vertex at a time, in your usual coordinate format. Drawing with your finger is still there, and the app asks which of the two you want.

A sector arrives as a written list of coordinates, not as gestures. There is no longer any need to hunt for each vertex by eye on a satellite image.

ACCESSIBILITY

The colour palettes are named for VoiceOver at last. They used to announce six identical buttons, with no way to tell which one was selected.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-09-09

AIRSPACE

A file now loads in one piece: outlines, markers and names together. There is no longer any need to open it a second time as a mission to see its points.

The ceiling goes from 24 to 48 volumes per map — a real sector grid often holds around thirty, and the general outlines were the first to be dropped.

Volume names appear on the map as soon as you are close enough to read them.

The opacity control now works on vector airspaces, on iPhone and iPad alike.

ZONES

A mission takes 16 zones instead of 8.

ACCESSIBILITY

Every control is named for VoiceOver, including the buttons that show nothing but a symbol. Panels can be stepped through element by element instead of being read as one lump.

Coordinate formats say their names: "decimal degrees" rather than "D D".

### 1.0 — 2026-09-04
