Add all of your spending accounts with their balances into your budget. Then assign every one of those dollars to a category. We are only going to budget and assign the money we have, not any future money we expect to get. Lastly once we get more income into our budget we repeat the process and assign those dollars to categories to suit our upcoming wants and needs. At the end of the month you can take back any extra money in a category to apply somewhere else or leave it there to build up a sinking fund.

Allow categories for unexpected (e.g. car maintenance) or larger expenses (e.g. Christmas fund) build up to create sinking funds.

This app is great, it can be frustrating at first because it teaches you to think about and plan your finances differently… stick with it!

Very feature rich app, yet it makes it simple enough to make budgeting easy if you don’t want to spend a ton of time doing it each month. I’ve tried different budgeting apps in the past but like this one because it allows me to customize and be as detailed in my budgeting as I’d like or keep things simple for the times I don’t have time to spend being detailed. I also love that it connects with all my accounts so that at any given point in time, I know exactly where I am sitting financially. It’s such a relief to know exactly how much I have to spend, yet still have peace of mind I’m hitting my financial goals. This has also helped my spouse and I stay on the same page financially and helped our communication tremendously since we both share the app and account on our phones! A huge help! A but of a learning curve to start off but stick with it, you’ll be glad you did and saves time in the long run.  It’s well worth it!
