### 3/5 — Needs some fixes for better score

*2024-06-24*

I think this app is basically great! It does what is supply to do, mostly. My request is that the app be not so rigid in its treatment planning. I sometimes forget or miss a session, or a day, if my life gets hurried. Maybe you are better than I at keeping to a perfectly regimented schedule. 1. In these cases if you want to restart your schedule but it is your day off on the schedule you can’t restart where you were. And Sunday is your day off so you can’t practice Sundays. You can use another breathing app and this has helped me when I was locked out of training. 2. If you miss a day or two the app has no way for you to start back where you were. You have to totally change your training program (with the “change training program button” then do it again and pick your original program. Then you can only restart at the beginning. Now I realize that this program is trying to have you be disciplined like a clock which I can often do. But if you slip the program goes on without you and offers no flexibility. I like the breather and the program. Developers haven’t included flexibility in this version.

### 3/5 — App Needs work

*2024-06-23*

I’ve been using this app for 5 months. Sometimes quite slow to load and there are feature improvements to be made to both the app and the coaching videos but, it but was functioning at a basic level. Today however, it froze. Rebooted my iPhone, still it froze, deleted app from phone and reinstalled app from Apple Store. Says, it has no internet connection?¿ the phone definitely has WiFi and no problem with connecting to the internet.

E.g. What do you do when too sick to train?

### 2/5 — worked great for about a week now broken

*2024-06-23*

Multiple reboots and different networks make no difference; app refuses to launch. i could delete the app, but fear that will erase my history. Will probably try it anyhow. Otherwise was quite good. Only things missing from app otherwise
1. if you want to train outside the scheduled programs, there’s no way to just have it do a session.
2. there is no explanation of what a “breath” is. Now sure, you can watch the demonstration videos, about the diaphragmatic breathing - but i suspect that the therapist is not *completely* emptying lungs and then completely refilling them (similar to lung function tests via spirometry). Which is fine, my point is that it should be explained.
3. there is no explanation of whether you should attempt to target the default breath timings if you are unable to do so on day one, by increasing the app defaults for breath pause, or whether you should purposely increase the breath duration even as a challenge (the harder programs simply seem to increase the number of breaths per session).

### 2/5 — Needs development

*2024-04-05*

I think this technology is really neat but has not been fully realized either by the device or the app. After I used a different device, the Lumen, which measures CO2 to measure metabolism, I was curious about breathing biofeedback devices. The Lumen device requires you to breath with a certain amount of force and for a certain amount of time in order to work, and has a visual display on the app that shows if you are succeeding.

That’s what I was hoping for with the Breather, but the Breather is only mechanical and does not have the sensor capabilities to provide biofeedback.

As for the app itself, I find it does not give the information or guidance in formats I want. Videos do not work well for me for many reasons, and I’ve found the information to be limited. Without real-time biofeedback from the device, questions remain about the correct technique, theory and practice.

I think this technology is incredibly cool but this iteration falls short of where I hope to eventually see this evolve.

### 3/5 — Need Internet Connection to Work

*2024-03-08*

This is just a review of the app and not the device itself. You have to be connected to WiFi or data in order to for it to work! I was trying to do my breathing exercises on a long flight when my phone was in airplane mode. The app gave me a “no connection” error and I couldn’t proceed. The app works fine the other 99% of the time, but that needs to be fixed.

### 2/5 — Frustrating!

*2023-12-31*

This is the most frustrating app I’ve ever used. I like the timer with to take the guess work out of the pauses and pacing, and so, I use the app… but there are days when I can’t even get to the timer because there’s a bug that changes my days off. It hasn’t given me the option to train for two days in a row now. Last week, it wouldn’t even let me log in for two days in a row. Maybe there should be an option to use the timer without being enrolled in a training plan. The breather device itself is good, and I highly recommend it, but there needs to be further development on this app even if it’s only to simplify it or provide an easy path to using the timer.

### 2/5 — What happened?

*2023-10-27*

Was great the first time I used it but now it locks up trying to enter my email address as soon as I hit the “.” character…or it locks up on launch (deleting it, along with my data of course) seems to have solved that issue. It also doesn’t always recognize WiFi and for some reason won’t work without it…even with cell data. Buggy buggy buggy

### 3/5 — Out to lunch

*2023-10-27*

Each time I start a new program there’s at least one day where the app seems to fall off the rails. For whatever reason, the app won’t load or has some kind of connectivity issue, or some such issue. Don’t get me wrong, the is not an every day issue, but when it does happen, it’s frustrating.

So I ask what’s more important, having the device or tracking progress on the app? I agree with other reviewers who criticize the rigidity of the app. It’s really quite user unfriendly. But the reason I have the app is because I’m using the breather device. The device is important, the app is unnecessary and mostly irrelevant. And what’s the point of the sleep/happiness/whatever the heck it’s called part of the app? I can say I’m happy as a clam or rate my breathing as a asthmatic coal miner with black lung disease and the app won’t care. It’s just some stupid feature that someone added. There’s no history to my daily ratings.

So I can use the device every day, twice or three times a day if I want. I can use it on my so-called day off. I’m the customer, I paid my money for the device. I don’t need some silly app telling me about my progress. The app isn’t my coach, it’s like a notebook, nothing more.

With the device I can feel my progress. I know that my lungs have increased capacity thanks to my faithful using the device. This is why I purchased the device. To quote one of my old phy ed teachers, the breather app is “out to lunch.”

### 4/5 — No internet ???

*2023-08-28*

Been using the app for a bit and was really happy! Breathing really improved!
Now today gives me error - no internet connection!
I tried and tried! Internet connection is there but app doesn’t recognize!
Deleted and reinstalled several times!
Nothing! 😭

### 2/5 — Inconsistent & Inaccurate

*2023-06-29*

To date, it has been challenging to utilize this app without a buggy experience, crash, or inaccurate metrics. It does provide the essential capabilities of timing and coaching for RMT sessions but other important features and data functions could use improvement and stability.

### 2/5 — I never know…….

*2023-06-29*

When the app won’t let me have access. Multiple reinstalls tonight have been frustrating and have not resolved the issue. I have tolerated this kind of functionality for far too long. Customer service is of no help. I’ll find another way to have RMT.

### 3/5 — App doesn’t work

*2023-05-07*

I do the breathing exercises in the morning and when I am ready to do them in the evening, it shows I haven’t completed 0/0 for the day. If I don’t do the exercises at the direct moment I have scheduled, I can’t get into the app. I contacted tech support and have heard nothing back.

### 3/5 — Good process

*2023-04-12*

Good process. I would give it 5 stars, but I’ve reached the maximum resistance, and would like to increase the breath and pause time beyond the allowed max of 3.5 and 0.8 seconds. App originally did not allow this. For some reason, it allowed for 1 month, then took it away.
I’ve tried contacting support, but haven’t received a response.
Please fix for those of us who have larger lung capacity.

### 4/5 — Sometimes the app stalls

*2023-04-10*

When i haven’t gone into the app for a little while, the app hangs at start up. It’s easily fixed my quitting the app, but that’s the main thing holding it back from a smooth 5 star performance

### 2/5 — Not Functioning

*2023-04-03*

App worked for two days and stopped. Every time I tried to enter my program after my day off, I received a email congratulating me on using. I received about 10 emails in two minutes.

### 3/5 — Great when it works

*2023-04-01*

The app is useful for guiding your exercises by counting and timing. It’s very inconsistent, however, in that about half the time it doesn’t load and even when it does load it may not time and count, record, or even remember which program you’re doing.

### 4/5 — Great device, good app with bugs

*2023-03-31*

I expect the device to help, but I’ve only been using it for two weeks. I’ll try to remember to update later.

The app has a bug: it doesn’t record most of my exercise sessions. For example, I’ve done both of the exercises today, but when I look at the calendar and the summary, neither session shows that I’ve done them - even right after I did them.

### 2/5 — Crappy app

*2023-03-30*

It does help guide you in the session but none of the data saves and so then it basically says you’re not working hard enough and whatever their systems are sends 2 emails that are exactly the same. I also am not sure what time zone it is but must be Eastern Time Zone because if you don’t get your second session in by 10pm MST it will say you missed it. Needs some serious work done to make it worth it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Breather App, my perspective

*2024-01-31*

Very much flawed . I would like to see an explanation of how the settings on the dials are actually supposed to work esp in conjunction with each other.
The “In the zone” explanation initially was decent but is never referred to again just a vague pretty easy or something much too general.
If you miss a day and come to a time off day there does not seem to bee a way to go ahead and use the breathing timer which I do like. For a device like this I feel like the app is not user friendly at all. I would like to know, in writing so it can be studied, how the dial settings are meant to be coordinated. Similarly the inhale/ exhale timings on the app. I feel like I am getting less than 50% of what I should get from the app. Now let’s see if anyone reads this much less improves it!
Thanks,
Bill Butikas

### 1/5 — Inconsistent function

*2023-09-03*

This looks like a great app with so much information, help, and functionality. Great design and detail. HOWEVER, it does not function consistently and is very frustrating.

My husband deactivated his account after a month of daily use with The Breather because the app is so bad.

I deleted the app twice and reloaded hoping that would help - nope! I want this to work properly so bad, I’m giving it another week, but have no expectations it will be a useful tool with The Breather. I’ll just have to use another app that prompts inhale and exhaled if I’m disappointed again.

### 1/5 — Great features; but functions poorly

*2023-08-28*

I love thé Breather tool and originally loved the app. It has so many great features to help you, but the app doesn’t work properly and is very frustrating. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it twice hoping that would correct the problem, but last night and today, I only get the blue app screen, but cannot access my training. I will continue to use the Breather tool, but find another app for executing the exercises.

### 1/5 — Needs a LOT of improvement

*2023-07-23*

First, it’s quite annoying that EVERY day you have to do the assessment. Once a week sure, but every day? Next, every time I start a new plan, I have to watch the how to videos again. After more than a year, I think that’s enough. Finally, every week after my ‘day off’ the app signs me out and I have to sign back in. Sometimes it errors out and I have to reboot my phone to get the login to work. A good device for breath control, but the app is far from good.

### 1/5 — What’s even going on with this app?

*2023-07-07*

I bought the breather and was excited to have a device to train with in tandem to an app, but this app is a DISASTER. Tries to recommend training plans with no real differentiation between them and literally zero explanations of them, and when you choose a program it locks you in at the time slots they set you at, as if everyone can follow it. No customization for scheduling makes it hard to follow their program.

Not only that, but you think there would be some sort of on-demand training sessions to choose from, but there’s literally nothing outside of their programs. There an “SOS” menu, but when I clicked on it there was absolutely nothing there.

There’s also little bits of information in the app that is a clear sign of poor development, like on my SOS page there’s script in the middle that says “There no SOS yet”. I hate to dock points for this in the chance that the person who made this doesn’t speak English as a first language, but with all the other problems this app has its hard not to acknowledge.

I’d give this a zero if possible. Such a shame because the Breather device itself is fantastic. I wish the app was at the same level.

### 1/5 — Great device terrible app

*2023-06-17*

I’m struggling with changing the settings to make it more difficult and it’s very very difficult to do that. That is a major bug

But also, I am left on my own with this app. I like the device, but I don’t know if it’s going to work because all I can do is breathe in and breathe out. But there is supposed to be different training plans as the days go by to help me increase the ability of my breathing, which is very shallow right now and the reason I got this device. All I can do is change the settings and just breathe in and breathe out because the app doesn’t give me any guidelines. The developer of this app needs to improve it, and fix the bugs.

### 1/5 — Wont even load

*2023-04-03*

iPhone 14 pro plus. I downloaded the app. I click on it to start it up & I get an error message. So I closed out of it. Cleared my apps. Tried it again. Still same error message. So just for haha’s I shut off my WiFi & tried again. Just to see if it made a difference as sometimes that little trick actually works…. BUT once again, I got the same error message!!! WHAT GOOD are your products and this “helpful app” if one can’t even get it to load or function at all??!!! ALL THE WAY, A 1 STAR!

### 1/5 — App Doesn’t work well

*2023-03-29*

I find that the app will freeze out at time or will not start, but will then later tell you that you missed your training.

The training program will some time restart prior to finishing the training cycle.

The quality of life section is meaningless to me.

The app offers various training programs, but doesn’t suggests how to set up a cycle of training, so I just do the same training program over and over again. It gets boring.

I like the product. I like the concept of exercising your lungs. What I do not like is the app. I only use it to time my inhales and exhales.

### 1/5 — Simply doesn’t work

*2023-01-09, version 3.0.6*

When the app works. It does what it is supposed to do…but the app never works. Half the time, you can’t login. When you can, every day is a day off. The device costs $60 and the app renders it functionally useless.

### 1/5 — Major problems

*2023-01-08, version 3.0.6*

Major problems with this app. Customer service is friendly. Even so, app return multiple notifications for training and most important, even though I am enrolled in program, every single day is a Day Off. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and still nothing gives. App yells at me for not training and continues to say that every day is a Day Off.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — New update still doesn’t work all the time

*2024-01-26*

The “new update“ doesn’t seem any different than the old one. It still is unstable for some reason to ask you to check in like it forgot who you are this system is not compatible with Apple, as far as remembering who you are, and being able to access, your passwords through memory they didn’t change the open screen. It’s like they want you to change exercises not to do the one you want I really like doing the exercises but this app makes me so happy that I have something to complain about so if you enjoy complaining, use the app.

### 5/5 — Breather voice , beginner

*2024-01-06*

I bought breather voice to strengthen my voice quality . I like to sing and do some presentations . I want a stronger projection. The first weeks I believe I am starting to see results. I could use feedback on diaphragm breathing. I also have some difficulty with the app. I believe I will use the breather voice for a long time

### 5/5 — My Breather experience

*2023-11-17*

I have the Breather Voice. Due to my schedule I don’t get to practice as much as I would like but there is a big difference in being able to sustain my breath through 4 measure phrases both singing words or long holds on “ahs,” etc. Also, my husband is taking speech therapy due to weight loss due to his epiglottis not closing causing him to choked when eating causing aspiration of food and water into his lungs. During his speech therapy he uses the Blue Breather along with other modalities. I was skeptical that speech therapy would work - what a surprise. - it has helped him in that he now rarely chokes when eating and he is also gaining weight. All I can say is that the breather does what they say it will do. Sandra & Richard Taylor

### 5/5 — Impressed

*2023-10-18*

So far I’m truly enjoying the Breather. I’m impressed with the quality of the device and the customer service as well as the app which gives so many options and a wonderful tracker to keep you on task. An unexpected benefit is my shoulders which have been locked up for many many months have now almost completely relaxed. I’ve only been using it a week and a half but I am optimistic of what’s to come. I can’t imagine anybody not benefiting from this product. I wish I would have tried it sooner.

### 5/5 — Great app, feedback for the developers

*2022-10-25, version 3.0.6*

This is a great companion app for the Breather products, and it helps keep me on track with my exercises. It offers audio cues so you can do your exercises without having to look at your phone for the most part. In that regard, I do have some feedback for the developers. 1) I’m doing the Breather Strength Training plan, and there’s a slight lag between the start of the first round and the first “Inhale” cue. The second round is in sync. 2) Please add an audio cue to let us know when the session is over so we don't have to watch the screen while doing exercises.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2022-09-26, version 3.0.6*

Very helpful and usefull

### 5/5 — Update

*2022-07-16, version 3.0.3*

New update is not allowing me to start.
Everytime I push start it prompts me to watch the beginners video.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2022-05-12, version 2.1.5*

I just started using the app and I love it. I haven’t had any issues with it being slow or hard to navigate. I use the app twice a day for my therapy and I’m very pleased. I’m running it on an iPad.

### 5/5 — Virtual Coaching in the app helps me improve

*2022-02-18, version 2.1.1*

This app helps me time my inhale and exhales, which was a struggle because I’m a shallow breather. I noticed on a strong day, I could stay on the cadence.

App updates training videos and protocols regularly so I don’t get bored.

### 5/5 — So helpful and nice to use

*2022-02-18, version 2.1.0*

I got the device around 4 years ago. On and off I’ve been using it to help with my breathing issues, high body pressure and cardio. Recently I installed the app and glad it sends reminders, notifications, and has great functionality to help me more and analyse my efforts. I highly suggest to use both device with the app!
