If you have that option on, it will try to update your offline maps, but only when you need them. It should update them when they're due an update. It does not. It updates them when they're overdue an update and you want to use them. And on top of that, it won't let you use offline maps that are overdue an update. It will behave like they don't exist. Terrible UX. The developer should just delete the automatic update feature. Sogar ÖPNV Strecken werden angezeigt. Die Routenplanung ist nutze ich besonders fürs Radfahren und Wandern. But when hiking or cycling, this has been my ‘go to’ mapping app. Nothing else can touch it! True offline mapping means you don’t need to worry about a signal. It’s also really fast and doesn’t use up much storage. The interface needs some effort to learn, but it’s worth it. The thing I find most useful is the ability to quickly find a bicycle route, but then it’s very easy to tweak that route by dragging the route onto the road/trail you want, adding a control point. You can download topo maps for most everywhere and get many local hotels restaurants etc plus routing on trails. it’s also a great backup for no signal areas if you download maps for the area before leaving wifi or cell coverage. highly recommend. ### 5/5 — Beste Kartenapp! - wenn man auf Navigation nicht den Schwerpunkt legt. *2025-02-01* Gilt immer noch👍🏻. Absolut genial. 🤩 Pocket Earth ist mein Stadtplan, Reiseatlas und Reiseführer in einer App geworden. Mich begeistert an dieser App: - die genauen OSM-Karten mit unglaublich vielen Details, wie z.B. Briefkästen, Restaurants, Läden aller Art, Wertstoffsammelbehälter, Fahrwege - um mal einen kleinen Querschnitt zu nennen - Aufzeichnung von Reisedaten als GPX (wird auch in der Karte farbig angezeigt) - Im-/Export von GPX - Daten (man kann sie z.B. im kostenlosen Basecamp von Garmin Routen erstellen und dann importieren) - flexible Favoritenverwaltung, die einzelne Orte oder Routen aufnimmt - vielfältige Einstellungsmöglichkeiten, die allesamt gut durchdacht sind, aber auch gewöhnungsbedürftig, bis man da mal voll durchsteigt. - Routenplanung (nur online) - Routenkorrektur (wenn man anders gefahren ist) auch nur online möglich. Solange man sich in der Nähe der berechneten Route bewegt, sieht man Route und Standort und kann nach Karte weiterfahren. Was mir sehr gefällt ist die Funktion Ziel anzuzeigen. D.h, der Zielpunkt wird markiert und eine gerade Linie (Luftlinie) zum Standpunkt gezogen. So kann ich entscheiden, welche Strecke ich wähle und habe trotzdem immer im Blick, in welcher Richtung mein Ziel liegt. -> und neben dem Autofahren ist es auch meine Nr. 1 fürs Rad fahren und zu Fuß. -> alle Karten sind offline ladbar und so ganz ohne Internet nutzbar -> als kostenpflichtige Erweiterung gibt es den Import von Wikipediaartikeln (wo immer verfügbar wird ein Icon in der Karte angezeigt, ein Klick und man bekommt die Infos) und von Höhenlinien Ich wüsste nicht, was hier noch besser gehen sollte. ### 5/5 — The best. *2025-01-18, version 3.9* By far the best offline mapping app by far. ### 5/5 — Map *2025-01-18, version 3.9* What happened to routing? I use it to add locations, camping, hotels, bars, restaurants and other POI as well as tracking walks, drives and other. I can quickly open my map and see places I've visited with my comments which I find highly useful. I found it very worthwhile spending the time to get to know how this app works and it has been invaluable. ### 4/5 — Gut mit Raum für Verbesserungen *2024-11-29* Als offline Karte gut geeignet, aber ganz anderes als die grooose Konkurrenz! Leider ist die topographische Erweiterung kaum den Preis wert, denn sie gibt sehr grob die ,,topographische Linien,, wieder! Und die Suche bzw. Festlegung von Orten über die geographische Koordinaten lässt viel Essentielles zu wünschen übrig, wie z.B. die Eingabe von ,,hinter der Komma,, Zahlen, was geographisch gerechnet einige 100m Unterschied ausmachen kann! Daher und auch wegen der sehr ungenaue Angaben zur Standort von Kulturgüter wie Ruinenstätten - immerhin durch Selbstsetzung korrigierbar - nur gut aber noch nicht sehr gut! Auch die Straßenführung wird selten aufgefrischt! Für die Stadt aus diesem Grund noch nicht geeignet! Eher als persönliche Reiseagenda mit Mankos nutzbar! Natürlich könnte man selbst Straßen, Städte, Dörfer, Denkmäler etc. hinzuzufügen- da die Möglichkeit besteht, über Open Maps Korrekturen zuzufügen - aber wer hat schon im Ausland und auf Forschungsreise noch die Zeit dafür übrig? Dennoch vielen Dank dem Entwickler team für die Mühe und weiter so! Eine e-mail Adresse für Korrektur-Sendungen wäre auch eine gute Alternative zur Selbstergänzung, damit es eine kollektive Aufwertung stattfindet! Darüber hinaus wäre die Möglichkeit einer offline Routenplannung nötig, nicht immer und nicht überall - vor allem im Ausland- hat man Signalempfang!! ### 5/5 — Still the very best offline maps app *2024-11-18, version 3.9* Easy to use, fast, easy on the storage space yet detailed. So I went over to the Pro version for which I paid £5.99. I see I still need to pay for my contour lines. There is no difference between Pro and standard versions yet both exist on the App Store. While I accept nothing in this life is free, this pricing model makes no sense. But map updates seems to have stopped a long time ago. ### 1/5 — Sync has stopped working *2023-08-29, version 3.8.4* I’ve always loved this app for its offline trail and navigation support. But saved routes and points of interest are no longer syncing. I can’t compare notes of recent hikes between my devices or plan something on my iPad and then leave it behind and use only my phone or watch. I’m also scared to upgrade my phone, not knowing if my favorites will be carried over. There’s no way to contact the developer or get support, so I have multiple backups of my Pocket Earth history and am looking for a replacement app. ### 1/5 — Not so useful *2021-08-08* The search function does not work at all either online or offline. The pinned places not shows labels. The name of place shows only certain character only. Maps takes too much time and consumes too much data .... may be 10 times more time and data compared to other applications. Used once at Guilin, China and was helpful for bus route except it was not helpful. Can’t import kml in to maps. While importing Gpx names of the pinned places truncated or not showing full. We have used it on the Camino Frances, the Via de la Plata in Spain and the Via Francigena in Italy. Downloading the tracks for each has kept us on course when signage was poor and also allowed us to choose alternative paths when needed. The topo add on is great for planning and assessment.
