This is not another app made by a company that gets a list of the most common vocabulary words in 20+ languages and creates a bunch of apps with simple picture/word matching games.  I spent years living in Thailand and studying Thai including reading many grammar books, creating and reviewing thousands of flashcards, and having lots of conversations with friends and acquaintances.  This app contains lengthy grammar explanations and cultural nuances that other programs don't include, because their authors probably don't even speak the languages of the apps that they create.

Learning to read Thai is the first and most important step to learning Thai.  Give yourself a month with this app and you will be able to read and pronounce the vocabulary that you need to learn to speak Thai.  This app teaches the Thai script very effectively-with mnemonics, bite size lessons and sound files.  One month and you will be reading-and pronouncing Thai words that cannot be represented by romanization.  A perfect place to begin your Thai journey!

The (brilliant) author of this masterful little piece of software has told me he's no longer updating it, which may mean it will at some point disappear from the App Store. Believe me (and all the other reviewers): if you want to Learn Thai, you want this on your phone, so get it now before it's gone.

I have used many different iPhone apps to study Thai, and some of them are helpful, but none I have found – including those that continue to be updated regularly – can compare to this app for efficacy. If you apply yourself, use your brain to meet this app halfway, you will learn Thai, and – if your experience is like mine and that of many other people – you'll learn it much quicker than you will using even the most up-to-date and polished of iPhone apps.

This app has a few minor bugs, such as that the audio doesn't play every single time you tap (that's what I contacted the developer about), but none I have yet encountered are showstoppers of any kind and the progress I make with this app puts all others to shame.

Seriously: get it before it's gone! 🇹🇭

UPDATE JUNE26: I’ve returned because the way that the course is laid out is just enough to give you confidence to move on. This is all you need. It’s very clear and enjoyable.

The clarity of the audio and pronunciation in any language app becomes the critical factor in success. And for this reason it’s gets 5 Stars. 

But you can also feel the care and love that the author has put into every stage. He reveals just enough so it stays an enjoyable challenge. The quizzes are confirmation of this. Well done.

This is a small update to increase the font size of the Thai text on the translation word ordering games so that it's a little easier to read and to tap.  I also updated the icon and splash screen to include a nice blue background.

This update fixes quiz formatting for users with small screens (shoutout to all of the iPhone SE and iPhone 5S users!) and updates the information in the 'Transportation' lesson. I also began writing and adding new quiz questions and fixed a few typos that I found when reviewing the current questions.

This update adds sentence ordering games where you are given an English sentence and must arrange the translated Thai words in the correct order!

I also changed touch detection on drag & drop exercises so the page doesn't scroll even if you miss the box by a little bit and fixed a bug that appeared on the home page if you reset your quiz scores.
