After school I just go on the app and do one lesson. All you need to do to learn the alphabet is to write the consonants/vowels down on paper while saying the pronunciation and then try to understand the rules. It doesn’t just shove a million rules in your face at once and it actually helped me understand it. Only thing is that I wish there were more quizzes so I could practice more. You can only move forward through the units once you have completed the short quizzes at the end if each unit, so you can be sure you are retaining the information. It’s no walk in the park though, which is good really, you need to be slightly challenged in order to progress, but it’s not to the point of throwing in the towel and running for the hills. Learning how to read Thai is (to me) imperative in learning how to pronounce Thai words correctly and with tonal languages, it’s really important to be able to be understood properly. It’s very tempting to ignore that part of it, but personally I wouldn’t skip it … try it 🤗 it’s a really good app for all round knowledge 🤩 ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Does not open *2018-01-22, version 2.5.7* App does not not open, it just stays on the on home screen and never loads. ### 3/5 — Needs Some Tweeks *2025-07-01, version 4.0.0* Some of the features to slide right to next page or moving the answers to the correct box isn’t working well. It would also be nice if there was a way to bookmark where to last left off instead it takes you back to the main page each time. ### 3/5 — Sound error that can hopefully be fixed *2024-04-07, version 4.0.0* I’ve just started this app and I’m enjoying it, but the problem I have with it is that after so many times pressing on a particular sound (to re-listen and understand it), I go on to click other sounds for other consonants and vowels and the sound doesn’t show up. I have to constantly get out of the app and re-do my lesson to make it work again. The problem only works temporarily though before I have to do the same process over again. A few chapters into this app but it requested a review so here it is thus far. This app is good and I wanted to give it 5 stars because the audio buttons allow to repeat as often as you like and speech is clear. Also it is well organized by proficient english and thai speakers. The issue I did not like is the app forces the learner to learn and spend a lot of study time on yet another transliteration ( as he calls it “Romanization“. I think it’s good to have it but it is critical to ALWAYS show the Thai letter as well. Especially since it is one of the main points of the app is to learn to read thai script. The app also randomly starts with some consonants and vowels out of standard layout. I would show the alphabet and vowels in stand layout context to help structure where these are located in the thai alphabet. All that said I will continue further and hopefully the app will be less reliant on only transliteration and always show thai script. One additional point, the Thai script vowels are a bit hard to read. It’s difficult to navigate within the sections, other than paging forwards or back. If you leave off in the middle of a section, the app forgets your place: you have to start at the beginning and then page forwards. I wish I could bookmark pages. I find myself screenshotting useful pages for later review. I wish there was a downloadable PDF (minus the interaction), just because it’d be easier to navigate. It’s a tiny bit buggy. It locked up on me once. More commonly, the audio won’t play immediately. Hitting an audio link repeatedly causes the audio to play multiple times, overlapping like an echo. So: first nothing, then echoed audio. That’d be easy to fix. Give yourself a month with this app and you will be able to read and pronounce the vocabulary that you need to learn to speak Thai. This app teaches the Thai script very effectively-with mnemonics, bite size lessons and sound files. One month and you will be reading-and pronouncing Thai words that cannot be represented by romanization. Believe me (and all the other reviewers): if you want to Learn Thai, you want this on your phone, so get it now before it's gone. I have used many different iPhone apps to study Thai, and some of them are helpful, but none I have found – including those that continue to be updated regularly – can compare to this app for efficacy. If you apply yourself, use your brain to meet this app halfway, you will learn Thai, and – if your experience is like mine and that of many other people – you'll learn it much quicker than you will using even the most up-to-date and polished of iPhone apps. This app has a few minor bugs, such as that the audio doesn't play every single time you tap (that's what I contacted the developer about), but none I have yet encountered are showstoppers of any kind and the progress I make with this app puts all others to shame.
