### 3/5 — useful but needs improvement.

*2024-12-29, version 5.3.4*

I found the description of wines, their regions, and personalized taste profiles very useful.
The food pairing portion is also very handy.
I write the app at three stars for the inventory portion.
there are other apps out there that will identify wines from a photo of the label. I would be more than willing to pay for the extra convenience (and not requiring a second app just to inventory the wine).

### 4/5 — App pretty clean just need

*2022-07-27, version 5.3*

The app is pretty clean, straightforward and intuitive. I liked the explanations and recommendations. Just need a Dark mode and with that feature would be a 5 start for me. I’m planning on purchasing completely forever but until it’s get the Dark mode feature.

### 5/5 — Handy, but needs more variety of foods.

*2021-12-27, version 5.2.1*

Needs more

### 5/5 — I work at a winery.

*2021-11-28, version 5.2.1*

People are often asking me what foods go with what or the history of a varietal. Pocket wine is my go to.

### 5/5 — A great app.

*2021-09-29, version 5.2.1*

I really like the concise description of the different grapes. It helps to understand what you’re drinking. I wonder if there could be a section added for adding tasting notes for when you’re out to eat or at a tasting and aren’t adding to your cellar? That would be great.

### 5/5 — Top for looking for varietals

*2021-08-07, version 5.2.1*

Go to for descriptions and tastes of various grapes

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2021-06-10, version 5.1*

Excellent app. Have used it for many years to catalog my wines, search by grape variety, style, my cellar, or favorites. Easy to add wines, pictures, and notes.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2021-06-05, version 5.1*

Use this app ALL the time

### 5/5 — First Class App

*2021-01-30, version 5.1*

Very informative, detailed and accurate in it’s description of wines and grape varieties. Extremely useful when looking to pair wine with food and easy to navigate.

Their support is also top notch both speedy and detailed. Had a slight problem with iOS not the App itself but Mike sorted the matter out for me.

A highly recommended App for less than the price of a glass of vino.

### 5/5 — Excellent.

*2021-01-21, version 5.1*

I’ve been using this app since I had an iPhone 4. It is easily the most useful and informative app of anything I ever downloaded. Five stars.

### 5/5 — Detail oriented

*2020-09-22, version 5.1*

I appreciate the detailed information, including some historical facts, pronunciation and the multiple ways in which you can navigate your learning.

### 5/5 — Go to wine resource

*2020-05-29, version 5.1*

Not everything is in this app, but I always go here first and am usually satisfied.

### 5/5 — My go to wine app

*2020-03-04, version 5.1*

Started saving my wines here and it's great. No sign in, no pushy requests, no emails, just the tools I need on wine information and to record all my favorite bottles in a nice format. Also great for managing my cellar. Wish more apps were like this.

### 5/5 — Best wine resource app!!

*2020-01-13, version 5.1*

Incredible amount of information, organized flawlessly and my new favourite!!! Well worth the upgrade. I’m currently studying for WSET and this has been really helpful and easy to use to help me study.

### 5/5 — Lovely discovery

*2019-12-30, version 5.1*

I'm very pleased to have found this app. It's great for keeping a record of my favorite wines, where I bought them, what I paid and what I thought of them. The extensive grape and wine pairing information are first class and an added bonus.

### 5/5 — Very personal wine app

*2019-12-30, version 5.1*

Just the job to record my wines and manage my 50+ bottle cellar with buckets of extra features. You can make this app your own and I wouldn't be without it. Love it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Won't help you find wines that match your criteria.

*2025-05-27*

Another wine app that can't help you find wines by basic properties like sweetness, alcohol %, or age. Let's say you want a Very Dry Merlot. The app can't help you with that. It can help you order one of their Merlot's but you can't filter for sweetness or anything else.
It SHOULD provide a list of wines from everywhere, based on what you're searching for, and you could then find who sells those wines. But nope. It only shows what they're selling. We want an app that's a "Consumer Reports" for wine, but I haven't found one yet.

**Developer response:** This review is for a different app, as we do not sell wines and never have. Neither do we recommend individual wines for users to buy. Given that you have posted this review in error, please remove it as soon as possible, as it is damaging and affects our overall rating on the App Store. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Held my database hostage until I payed up

*2022-02-03, version 5.2.1*

“Upgrade” options included loose everything or pay up.

### 1/5 — No label or barcode scanning

*2017-12-18, version 5.0.1*

Why would you want an app for your wine with no label or barcode scanning?

After looking at 6 different apps, I finally found one called Vivino that successfully scanned the labels of all my wine with only 2% it could not recognize.

### 1/5 — Boring and nothing special

*2012-01-24, version 1.2*

I'd like more than a summary of the wikipedia page on wine. How about a camera function in order to categorize and classify previously tasted wines via pictures, a search function? Plain vague basics are not an 'application'. This is not a tool in any way, it's an intro book -read apps content once, you'll know the stuff, and you can delete it

### 1/5 — Not worth the money

*2011-06-26, version 1.2*

Very poor content, no really good features, if there had been a trial version i wouldn't have paid for this

### 1/5 — Overpriced regrets

*2011-04-21, version 1.1*

Maybe good as an intro to wine but for someone who has a basic knowledge base I wish I had saved my money.

### 1/5 — Needs urgent bug fix

*2010-12-03, version 0*

Purchased but does not work - AT ALL! What a waste of money.

### 2/5 — Auto fill capabilities

*2022-03-27, version 5.2.1*

I really thought this app was great until someone introduced me to the Vivino. You take a pic of a label in Vivino and it auto populates the wine details. I paid for the Pocket Wine App and it still doesn’t auto populate. It would also be nice to be able to plug-in of wine and have the wine details pop up to help me and my selection.

### 2/5 — Needs to auto fill from pictures of label

*2020-07-03, version 5.1*

Edit: see developer response.

Other wine apps can autofill the wine information from a label picture. That key feature is missing here.

### 2/5 — Only 12 bottles, then 4.5 euro

*2018-06-14, version 5.0.1*

The free version only lets you add 12 bottles, then you need to pay 4.5 euro, a little bit too much. The app does not seem to be integrated with a visual search engine: you must fill all the fields manually. I think a price so high should be clearly written on the app description since the free version is not worth much. That’s why two stars.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2024-09-01, version 5.3.4*

Just starting my wine journey and this app is awesome to differentiate between styles and brands.

### 5/5 — Well detailed

*2024-05-28, version 5.3.4*

Well detailed and easy to understand wealth of information. I have it since 2015-6. It is truly a wine bible.

### 5/5 — Wonderful for exploring and cataloging—and a suggestion

*2023-11-03*

I’ve been greatly enjoying learning more about through this app! It’s also got powerful features for storing details about your wines.
One feature that would make it even better would be a quick filter button to show only My Wines currently listed with at least one bottle in stock. While it is possible to search by location, since I have a handful of very small storage places, it makes it cumbersome so see at a glance what I have on hand. This would also make it easier for My Wines to serve as a “have tasted” collection because the wines not currently in stock would not be cluttering up the viewing space. Right now the only way to not see wines that have already been consumed is to delete them, but I’d rather keep them archived.
Thanks for your app!

**Developer response:** We are delighted you are enjoying the app and thank you for your review. The feature you request is actually in the app already. When you go to the “My Wines” tab there is a Sort button on the top left of the screen (a down arrow symbol). When you tap on this Sort button you will see options to display you wines by all of the following: Date Added, Styles, Cellar, Vintage, Rating, Favorites and Wishlist. When you select Cellar from this list all of your wines with at least one bottle in stock will be displayed – these wines will be displayed in descending order based on the stock available with the highest displayed first. Tip: if you want to see, for example, what Bordeaux wines you have in stock just select Cellar from the Sort button and then type “Bordeaux” into the Search bar at the top of the screen. All of the Bordeaux wines you have in stock will then be displayed. Hope this helps.

If you have any further questions or comments just contact us through the “Pocket Wine Support” button in the More tab in the app and we will be happy to respond.

### 5/5 — The best ever

*2023-09-01, version 5.3.3*

This app is astonishing-all brakes places associations -it is the best book of its type I have tesd

### 5/5 — Very useful and recommended.

*2023-05-01, version 5.3.1*

A seriously useful app, if you have a passing interest in enjoying wines. From the start, you get asked some simple questions, to work out what wjote/red wines you will like. This is called 'My Taste' which builds a profile of your wine taste. It has an indepth guide of the variety of grapes all around the world, which tells you how it tastes and also a detailed description of the grape. Highly recommend this app.

Updated review after a couple of years in use - This is a great wine app, especially if you want to record the wines you have tried and give them a score. It’s a good bit of software to refine wines you like and also to explore new wines going forward. It's always interesting to read up on the history and grape variety as you drink your wine at the same time... :) Recommended !

### 5/5 — Perfect for any wine lover!

*2022-12-07, version 5.3.1*

Absolutely perfect to rate, sort and learn about wines. Has become an indispensable part of my wine drinking routine and the best way to understand all about the different types as well as refining and understanding my own tastes.

### 5/5 — Very helpful

*2022-05-07, version 5.2.1*

Pocket Wine is an informative and ideal app for anyone wishing to learn about wine. As a beginner, I learned a great deal in a short amount of time. This app contains a wealth of very interesting information, and its content holds my interest. I would highly recommend this app to anyone wishing to learn about the need to know information (and then some) about wine.

### 5/5 — Easily searchable

*2022-04-23, version 5.2.1*

Great app. At first I hated having to enter in all the information, but the search feature makes up for it. Finally, a wine app that you can actually find the wine you are looking for.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2022-02-20, version 5.2.1*

This is the best app I’ve seen for keeping track of my wine, understanding the grapes, and knowing how to pair foods with my specific wines. Great flexibility to set up cellar locations and vintages. Love it!

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2022-01-22, version 5.2.1*

I’m just learning about wines and how to compliment/pair food. This app has been my go to.
