## What is PocketBudget?

PocketBudget tells you one thing: can you spend this, or not.

Set what comes in, what goes out, and what each category is allowed. The app does the rest of the arithmetic and gives you a single verdict for the day, with the number you have left until payday underneath it.

THE MONTH STARTS ON PAYDAY
Most budget apps reset on the first. Your money doesn't. Set your payday and the month follows your salary instead of the calendar.

CATEGORIES THAT CARRY OVER
Give each category an allowance. What you don't spend can roll into next month, so an underspent month is worth something instead of disappearing.

SHARED GROUPS
Split a holiday, a flat, a dinner. Everyone adds what they paid, and the app works out the shortest set of payments that settles it — not everyone paying everyone.

An expense can be entered in a different currency from the group. The rate is fixed at the moment you enter it and never recalculated, so the number you agreed on is the number that stays.

Groups sync over iCloud. There is no account, no sign-up, and no password.

PRIVATE BY BUILD, NOT BY PROMISE
Your figures live on your device and in your own iCloud. Nothing is sent to us, because there is no server to send it to. One tap on the eye covers every amount on screen when someone is looking over your shoulder.

PICK YOUR ANIMAL
Eight pigs, free. Foxes, donkeys, cats and rabbits are optional packs — the only thing in the app that costs anything.

Every function is free and stays free. No subscription.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.9 — 2026-10-23

You can now rename a group. Tap ⋯ inside the group, then Rename group. Everyone in the group sees the new name.

### 3.8.1 — 2026-10-20

Fixes a bug that could make the app hang at launch when you're in a shared group. Sorry about that.

### 3.8 — 2026-10-15

Shared groups now tell you what the others spent. When someone adds an expense, you get a notification with the amount and your share. On the 1st of each month, one summary shows what you owe and what you're owed. Both can be turned off in Settings.

Buy an animal pack straight from the App Store page.

Fixes: changing your base currency converts your entries and budgets. Accounts keep their own currency. Annual entries count once a year. A budget can be removed again. When you join a group, you tap who you are.

### 3.7 — 2026-10-13

Every screen in the same voice. Budget, Accounts, Transactions, Groups, the forms, the animal picker and the shop now use the section titles of the home screen. The + sits next to the title of the section it adds to, not in the bar at the top. Transactions use the same row as the home screen, with date tile, grouped by month with a count. Accounts are one list with a chevron instead of a line explaining that rows can be tapped.

One shop for all packs. The shop lists every animal pack with its six looks and its price, outlines the one you tapped, and offers all packs together underneath.

### 3.6 — 2026-10-10

The verdict is the background now. The tab bar is gone. The month's verdict fills the screen, and a sheet that never closes holds the month, a search, the latest three entries and four tiles: Budget, History, Accounts, Groups. Pull the sheet down and the verdict stands on its own.

Four colour schemes, light and dark. Bistro, Bordeaux, Messing and Graphit, chosen in Settings under Appearance, all free. Good news wears the scheme's colour; a tight or overspent month keeps its sand and terracotta in every scheme, because what those mean shouldn't depend on taste.

Flat animals. The pig and the four animal packs are redrawn as flat shapes. The pig on the verdict screen takes the verdict's colour, and its face follows the same three bands, so colour and face can't disagree. Everything already bought or chosen looks the same, only in the new style. New icon to match.

German where it was missing. Default categories read "Lebensmittel" and "Lohn" instead of "Groceries" and "Salary", month names are German, and "2 Mitglieder" replaces "2 member".

Fixed: a group in another currency could leave the budget without an exchange rate, and offline an entry in USD was booked 1:1 as CHF. Editing an old foreign entry re-converted it at today's rate. Income earmarked for an expense that was later deleted disappeared for good. A failed save was silent. Deleting a group now asks twice, the second time for its name.
