### 4/5 — it works! BUT...

*2017-03-15, version 2.8.1*

--- I REALLY want this thing to work. I've had it for 2 weeks for my dad with dementia. The device cost $150 one time charge and $13 monthly charge.
--- First the good news: THE TECHNOLOGY WORKS.
--- (#1) My sister and I are both able to watch our dad's movements around town with our iphones and our home computers. (cool).
--- (#2) EVERY time my dad leaves his house, a text message is sent to both of us within 1 to 5 minutes telling us that he has left his house. (this is the reason we got this device)
--- (#3) EVERY time the help button on the device is pressed, a text message is sent to both of us within 1 to 5 minutes telling us that the help button has been pressed. (The help button has to be pressed at least 3 times in 2 seconds for the red light to light up which triggers the alert to be issued, this absolutely stops any false alerts from occuring, we LOVE it.) (We have convinced my dad that this device in his pocket is a "help button" for him to use anytime he wants someone to come help him. We don't tell him it is a tracking device to monitor his every move :-)
--- Now to prove that I am not a shill for the PocketFinder company, here is the bad news:
--- (#1) The device has a SERIOUS battery life issue. The device only stayed alive for 7 hours before dying. So I emailed the company. They immediately replied that they had sent a "software update" to my device and lo and behold, now the device stays alive for 21 hours. This is a TREMENDOUS improvement, BUT, to make me happy, the battery life MUST, I repeat, MUST be at least 24 hours to protect my dad.
--- (#2) The accuracy of the device's GPS (Global Positioning System) is tolerably accurate. I have spent the last 2 weeks analyzing the data and most of the time (90% of the time) the accuracy is within 150 feet. But occasionally, the accuracy can be up to 390 feet off of the target. This means that to keep the device from sending FALSE alerts, you have to make the geofence a little bigger than you would like.
--- Now for my final thoughts on the subject.
--- The accuracy problem is probably unfixable but I TRULY can live with it.
--- The battery life problem is probably fixable and MUST be fixed in order for me to be 100% happy with this product.
--- I REALLY believe that the PocketFinder company will take the necessary steps to extend the battery life to at least 24 hours.
--- There are several ways they can do it.
--- (#1) Remotely reprogram the device's software even more.
--- (#2) Stop the device from locating its position 3 times every minute.
--- (#3) Make the device go to sleep and only wake up every 5 minutes to relocate its position.
--- Final thought: the technology WORKS, now work out the bugs.
--- (I hope you appreciate this review, this is the kind of review I would like to read.)

### 2/5 — Needs improvements badly!

*2015-08-18, version 2.8.1*

This app works but is not well designed for users. For example, why can't alerts be deleted after you've viewed them. Why do I need to know that the battery was low 6 months ago? The alert badge shows a constant rolling total of EVERY alert you have received! On the developer's web site there is a support link to a video on how to manage alerts. The link points to nothing. Enough said. Plus the trackers are way too expensive and then they add a service plan! This is gone.

### 2/5 — Poor UX

*2015-08-15, version 2.8.1*

Poor design and user experience/interface. Difficult to navigate, set up zones, alerts, see history. Love the idea but need to spend some $ to update app.

### 2/5 — Really needs an interface upgrade

*2015-05-31, version 2.8.1*

It does the job, but in a very roundabout way. The interface is inelegant to say the least. Suggestion: have the route of the device actually drawn on a map (with moving arrows along it to show direction). The longer a person stays in one spot, the thicker the line gets. If they stop, put a small symbol on the line. Have small clickable dots representing when the device phones home, and tapping them pulls that info up - so you can see where they are when. It would be far better to visually SEE the route and have to click on for the time stamp then the current method of just having gawky time stamps all over the place and your brain has to fill in the route in some kind of multi-dimensional connect-the-dots.

### 2/5 — Ok

*2015-04-10, version 2.8.1*

Sometimes it lets me log in and sometimes it doesn't

### 4/5 — Would like more speed options

*2014-09-18, version 2.7*

I use this to track a vehicle. The speed alerts are great and have been reliable thus far. I believe the 10 mph increments are a bit much. The speed limits my teen is in is a 5mph road. I get alerts for 56 daily. We live where there are a lot of hills. Give us 5 mph increments so I can set this at 60, or give us custom levels. Otherwise I am pretty satisfied with the device and app. The text alerts are a nice feature too.

### 4/5 — App

*2014-05-30, version 2.7*

Does the other person have to have the app installed on their phone as well? And can you track them without them knowing?

### 1/5 — Horrid in every way

*2014-04-24, version 2.7*

This is a piece of dung. It gives me 4 false alarms every day. To make matters worse something has happened to the company and there is only a web page with FAQ s. No way to speak to a real person, not even at the corporate office! No way to even cancel the monthly service. I believe the good reviews are fake!

### 4/5 — Gets the job done

*2014-04-13, version 2.7*

Fairly cost effective device and app, although the interface could use some work. The history section isn't so usable in high density environments (ie big cities).

### 3/5 — Pretty Decent

*2014-03-25, version 2.7*

I have no qualms with the actual service, so far my experience has been great, but the app crashes a lot. It's not a huge deal since it's starts up quickly, but it does get frustrating.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money!

*2019-10-07, version 2.9.1*

Tracker battery fails after a few hours despite being set according to recommended intervals. Zone notifications are either completely nonexistent or we get 3 or 4 repeated messages of the same location. We cannot rely on this device for our special needs daughters safety. We have stopped using it altogether after multiple attempts to customer service.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time or money

*2019-09-20, version 2.9.1*

I should have listened to the reviews and my own instinct when I first opened their website to signup for service. The product webpage, to phrase it nicely is primitive. The same experience happened to me when I installed and configured their app. Updates on device location and status are none existent, even after reconfiguring the device for 4 minute updates, I get nothing for hours. Since this was purchased to track a disabled child, he would have ended up in Timbuktu before I got an update. Forget anything that claims real time updates.
And the last part is the battery life of the device, they claim long battery life?? the thing would not even work for 8 hours on a full charge before it dies. Don’t bother to try it, it’s a waste of time.

### 1/5 — Almost Worthless

*2018-09-09, version 2.9.1*

This thing will suddenly send me 6-8 texts saying it has exited an area. But this doesn’t generate an alert? Also, I have no idea how to see where the thing is RIGHT NOW!

### 1/5 — PocketFinder user

*2017-05-19, version 2.8.1*

This product is not reliable. My wife and I purchased this product to help us keep track of an elderly parent that has the onset of Alzheimer's and dementia. Unfortunately this product is not consistent in sending text messages when the unit moves in or out of the defined zone. At one point it quit sending us text messages for a solid week. Yesterday it began to work again, and it sent a message when leaving the defined zone within two minutes, but when returning to the defined zone, it took eleven hours before it sent us a text message. I wouldn't recommend this product because it is not consistent or reliable.

### 1/5 — Don't bother

*2015-06-29, version 2.8.1*

All I get is a page to buy expensive devices to work with this app

### 1/5 — Unauthorized charges

*2015-01-23, version 2.8*

People Be careful with this company, I just tried to reactivated my pocket finder after being deactivated for two years and got charge for the two years that I didn't use. And there is no one to talk to only tru email.

### 1/5 — Crap

*2015-01-20, version 2.8*

Got this as a present for Christmas after a family child 4 years old went missing on bus. Family member bought 27 Locators none work of the App. Works off internet log in but App does not work iSO. I tried to get support but "they are working on it" We have two devices at $16 CDN a month cancelled looking for something that works. DO NOT BUY THIS IS TERRIBLE!

### 1/5 — Worst rip off ever

*2014-11-23, version 2.7*

Not only does this not work most of the time ,after canceling they continue without your permission to charge your credit card (BE VERY CAREFULL HUGE HEADACHE AND RIPOFF)

### 1/5 — Fail!

*2014-07-22, version 2.7*

I get multiple notifications even though the device is in the charger. When the device is out and about, I get nothing. I just received an email claiming I owe for nine months of service even though I have updated my account info several times. I have attempted to contact the company by telephone, email and even facebook to no avail. Do not purchase this device!

### 1/5 — V/P Operations

*2014-06-13, version 2.7*

They keep bank drafting me after a cxl my service ...can not get a live person on the phone to talk to.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — App does it all

*2024-03-29, version 3.1*

This app gives me flexibility to track all of my vehicles on one screen. It allows me to set speed limits, excessive idle time and I know start and end times. Very helpful.

### 5/5 — Pocketfinder is Accurate and easy to use

*2024-03-25, version 3.1*

I've been using this platform for a few years. It works amazingly well it's simple it's accurate and it has never failed. The mounted in all my vehicles and in my dogs collar.

### 5/5 — Own Both Devices

*2023-02-02, version 3.0*

I love my vehicle tracker. Have one on my sons 4Runner, one on my wife’s car and one on her mothers car. Her mother takes long trips alone and all her family can watch her progress. We also set a zone around our city so when she drives too far away when she shouldn’t be, my wife gets an alert.
Personal tracker works. It’s not like the movies but it works and my wife likes knowing where her mom is on her walks. Battery life for her is 3-4 days with her going out usually 2x a day.

### 5/5 — easy to use and im breathing again

*2020-11-30, version 2.9.1*

this helps me ensure my special needs child is where he should be and gives him more independence while helping me relax. couldnt be easier to use, once you get past the learning curve. their support is excellent. i haven’t seen this level of customer service in a long time! if you have questions, speak to them!

### 5/5 — Works well

*2016-12-28, version 2.8.1*

I've bought several of their devices now and haven't had problems. Good product.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2015-11-19, version 2.8.1*

I run a small taxi company in the middle of nowhere and they were great

### 5/5 — LOVE IT!! & have loved it for almost a year!

*2014-08-13, version 2.7*

I own 2 vehicle devices & 3 of the personal devices.
Our 2 cars, One for my dog, one for my mini potbelly pig who loves looking for greener grass and I keep the other one charging in my vehicle, just in case.
Often I will slip it in my camera bag or my wife will put it in her purse if we're out in a crowd.

The vehicle devices are amazing! The do what they say they do & flawlessly.
The unit was also extremely easy to install.

As for the portable ones, they work extremely well too, but you just have to have a little patience with familiarizing yourself with its settings in order to get the most out of the device.
They're definitely as indestructible as they advertise. My Weimaraner is rough on everything & a lil soap & water brings it back to new!

I haven't caught any thieves yet, but like they say, it's because you were prepared with your umbrella that it didn't rain at all!

Love it!

### 5/5 — V2.0 removed all issues. NO crashing. It's GREAT! You MUST BUY THIS!!!

*2014-04-07, version 2.7*

PocketFinder 2.0 is GREAT! It works every time I need it; so I know where my family ( teens ) are at all times. Anyone who has any software crashing issues needs to be updated to the latest OS and Browser they use. Also, this is really meant for an iPhone 4s and above and an iPad 2 or above. Then your crashing will stop. I have literally thousands of apps ( from the kids ... OK, me too ) and I have only reviewed maybe a few, if that. I wanted to go out of my way to tell EVERY PERSON WHO HAS A TEEN DRIVING MUST BUY THIS HARDWARE AND APP! PERIOD!

It's easy to install, but you can bring it to just about any gas station with a garage, and they'll do it for you in a few minutes. Remember to take a photo of the underside of the transmitter ( or the Black Box ) that came in the box when you purchased it, as it has the numbers you will need to read to the PocketFinder activation center, when first setting it up. Once PocketFinder activates the Black Box, just like a new phone needs to be activated, it just works.

Then you open PocketFinder v2 and set up zones you choose and actions to happen if they go in or near the zone, such as where I know my kids should and should NOT be; and I've set up speed limits as well. I get a text message and an email ( my choice in settings; you can choose just one, or none ) that tells me exactly when they arrive and when they leave! Furthermore, I know when to have a long "talk" with them as I know when they've exceeded speed zones as well. And, on the, not to rare occasion, when they get lost, I can find their location and direct them back on track.

I firmly believe EVERYONE with a teen, grandparent, parent, etc. still driving, or a child of special needs who drives, this is a MUST HAVE device!!! It has literally saved my kids multiple times when they got lost in areas they don't belong. Please buy one for your teen, mom, dad, etc. ASAP! Remember, not all cars have Siri or MS Sync built in to notify you of an accident... outside of them being unconscious, this is your answer to safety!!!

### 5/5 — So far so good

*2014-03-21, version 2.7*

Just installed this on a vehicle. And this app is tracking it like a charm so far!!

### 5/5 — What to expect

*2014-01-18, version 2.7*

I bought one unit 2 years to test it in my taxi fleet. It worked so good I bought more. They offer the cheapest monthly service in Quebec. It's reliable and accurate. Can't go wrong at this price.
