### 5/5 — Useful adjunct to Pocket Smith app

*2017-04-21, version 2017.4*

Far more user friendly than the Pocket Smith mobile app. Provides oversight of transactions and accounts in a user friendly layout. Developer quick to assist with queries and provide updates. Recommended.

### 5/5 — Functional app but missing core features

*2017-03-31, version 2017.3.1*

Very clean and great app for users of PS. Great work

### 5/5 — Solid App. Well designed. Better than PocketSmith app.

*2017-02-25, version 2017.3*

This app is far superior than the app that Pocket Smith makes. Well designed and easy to use. The version of Pocket Smith makes is complete bare-bones where as this version of the app gives you access to budget, trends and other features. Also as of 2017 this app has been updated consistently. Highly recommend.

### 4/5 — It's just really good!

*2016-08-21, version 2016.7*

We stumbled across Pocketlion while looking for a companion app for the web based Pocketsmith personal accounting system which have now settled on after testing three other system.

The install, setup and bank feeds were seem less. Very simple to operate, categorise and enter cash transactions. The monthly charting tools have been revealing - we spend way too much on take-outs:)

The support too has been excellent and have been amazingly quick to respond to some of our ideas and suggestions.

Pocketlion has been an excellent find for our family and has made our personal finances so much easier to manage.

### 5/5 — Highly recommend

*2016-08-20, version 2016.7*

Takes the powerful analysis options of PocketSmith and presents it well for mobile. The best tool for PocketSmith on mobile and the best personal finance tool around for those wanting a bit more ability to see ably so clearly than other personal finance tools around.

### 5/5 — Clean and simple great app

*2016-03-22, version 2016.2*

This is a great app. Easy to use. Intuitive navigation. I started using this tonight and by now it is has all accounts set up and data loaded. Everything is right at your fingers. Good job! Looking forward to see new releases.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — $14.95 and its unusable.

*2024-08-20, version 2024.6*

$14.95 and its completely unusable. No features working without a further subscription. Ripped off.

### 1/5 — Too hard to work with

*2024-08-17, version 2024.6*

The app is too hard to setup and it costs $14.95 per month which is too much

### 1/5 — Unusable!!!! Buyer beware!!!!

*2020-07-14, version 2020.6*

I bought this, the app is unusable without a free account at PockettSmith.com.
Signed up for the free account at the website.
Went back to the app and logged in.
1. I get error messages on every tab that I click.
2. The parent category does not even work.
3. The website sinks down to the app but the website is a very bad experience with a phone.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money

*2017-10-12, version 2017.7*

What a disappointment. You can’t see your calendar or see you future balances. Who cares where you’ve been, let’s see where we’re headed! Future balances are a MUST

### 1/5 — Crashes every time

*2017-02-23, version 2017.2*

This app is a great concept but it crashes every time I try to do anything in it. Completely useless

### 1/5 — Crashes always!

*2016-12-07, version 2016.11*

Click budgets to crash iOS iPad or iphone

### 3/5 — Great, just missing forecasting section

*2016-08-17, version 2016.7*

This is a great first step but there's no separate forecasting to track future income/expenses separate from live data.
That's how I use pocketsmith almost entirely, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

### 3/5 — Adequate but waiting for better

*2016-06-07, version 2016.5*

Pocketsmith is the only service that uses bank feeds for NZ banks. Weirdly it has no app or mobile functionality. PocketLion is supposed to fill the gap. Its functionality is ok but glitchy. Basically, get this because it is the only app for personal finance tracking using bank feeds, but only until the second someone makes something better.

### 4/5 — A great alternative to the PocketSmith App

*2020-06-23, version 2020.6*

Firstly, this is an app interface for your paid pocketsmith account.

What the pocketsmith app does:
Gives you a general overview of your profile
Tracks budgets
Displays net worth
Categorises transactions
Passcode lock only

What this app does:
All of the above plus:
Cashflow statements
Trends
Amend categories
FaceID/TouchID support

If any of those features are important to have on your mobile device, then get this app.

4 Stars because I believe they could add more desktop level functionality. The bones are there. Such as:
View budgets by custom times. E.g. make all budget categories present over the same timeframe.
Account balance over time graphs
Calendar view
Scan receipts

### 4/5 — Better than the native PocketSmith app

*2017-10-20, version 2017.7*

PocketLion is a much better version of the app than the native PocketSmith app.

Pros:
+Easy to use interface
+Ability to see transactions related to each budget category
+Cashflow reporting
+Great budget view

Cons:
-No projection or calendar feature (this could easily be an agenda type calendar display)
-No "Income & Expense" report to show debits and credits by category side by side.

Bottom line, PocketLion has most of the features that I need. And with a few additions will be even better, worth double the price, and get 5 stars from me.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fantastic add-on/ replacement app to PocketSmith!

*2024-12-31, version 2024.12*

I first started using PocketLion years back when I was a new user to PocketSmith. The PocketLion app was streets ahead of the PocketSmith app! And now some 6 or 7 years later.. Im having another go at PocketSmith.. and OMG!! PocketLion has still got the goods!! PocketLion is a far superior app for the more astute user who really wants to refine the transactions so they can read, edit and translate the data to be more meaningful! The turn-around on feedback for PocketLion then was amazing back then.. and I’m about to find out what it’s like now.. as I’m planning to start feeding more suggestions through.. WOW WOW WOW!! So grateful!! And excited!!

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2024-04-25, version 2024.4*

I really like this app, especially with the Pocket Lion App. Feeds from banks in lots of countries makes it easy and helps us understand our financial position. I have had good support about questions raised

### 5/5 — Terrific App!

*2023-04-30, version 2023.3*

The user interface is very simple and intuitive. It is well thought out and I use it more often than the Pocketsmith App

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2022-01-27, version 2022.1*

Great app - a way better interface to PocketSmith than the default app. Categorisation using PocketSmith is way faster.

It is also far more feature complete than the default app.

### 5/5 — Better than the official app.

*2021-11-24, version 2021.11.2*

Does what it claims to do better and faster than the official app. I just which it had a bit more functionality to it.

Thanks for making this app.

### 5/5 — Stylish minimalist finance app

*2021-07-31, version 2021.7*

PocketLion (PL) is in a sense a streamlined collation of the most useful PocketSmith functions. I don’t believe PL is a complete substitute for their website app, but one would need to be pedantic indeed to believe there isn’t enough presented here.

I really liked the trend lines on the accounts screen, and the PL developer has indeed found a nice way to offer practically as much information on an iOS app as the PocketSmith website does... particularly around budgets and something of an emphasis on the Cashflow statement. Good form with the notifications too, bringing to attention those pesky transactions that should be categorised and perhaps edited.

The rather useful rolling 30-day expenditure report is now found in Expenses! One further suggestion is to add the ability to recall payees, though categories are accurately suggested after entering an existing payee. The developer is active (witness response to said feature request in a prior review) and new features may well be on the way.

A decent, if marginally expensive one-time purchase (plus tips if there be surplus value) that complements the PocketSmith system.

### 5/5 — Must have app. Using daily

*2019-11-10, version 2019.11.2*

This is a great app that helps me being up to date with my bank accounts on the go.

Easy to navigate. Great experience.

Developer is very responsive and have implemented a few of my suggestions.

Keep it up!

### 5/5 — Easy to understand

*2019-09-24, version 2019.09*

Not very financially literate and have found your LION POCKETSMITH app easy to understand. I had to get help from EnableMe to help me set up my budget plan.

### 5/5 — Makes PocketSmith better

*2019-04-27, version 2019.03*

PocketLion is a PocketSmith client, and has made the latter so much more useable on the iPhone and iPad. The app is well presented, provides numerous ways to drill down into your financial transactions, provides for trend views, progress against budgets and ability to export data into a csv file. All in all I’m very impressed, thank you

### 5/5 — Much better than the PocketSmith app

*2018-09-22, version 2018.05*

Much easier to understand and drill down than the PocketSmith app.
