### 2/5 — Ads

*2026-06-08, version 3.1.29*

I’m paying $30/year and now you add advertising on the app. What happened? Guess I need to find another app.

### 2/5 — It’s all a bit too small

*2026-01-20*

Preferred the old layout. After some years of the new one it really bugs me and the info is too small. Needs better options to change the visuals. The colours or a dark theme. But also the overall size.

After years I have abandoned this app and found an alternative. Fortunately I can export and reimport the history.

### 4/5 — Pocket Money Laptop

*2025-04-12*

I have 15 years of personal accounts on my IPhone. There was a time when we all had the ability to backup everything to a Windows version of PM to a pc or laptop. Will this ever happen again.

### 3/5 — This app is full of ads even when you pay for it!

*2024-06-11, version 3.1.22*

Very disappointing! I’ve been using this app for so many years and now for few days with the last version, all pages of the app have been flooded by Google ads, despite I have a silver account! Very bad!

### 2/5 — Mixed feelings!

*2024-04-21*

Having read the reviews I was very reluctant to update from the original PocketMoney app which I’ve been using for many years. However, following a forced iPhone reset, I had no option. Having spent a few days using the new app it has really grown on me. The data transfer process worked pretty seamlessly, apart from my Budget and account sort codes, but many years of transactions pleasingly did. I can understand why some people find the user interface less friendly to use, but under the hood the functionality works very well for my purposes and has enhancements over the original app. I think with a bit more refinement to the UI this could bring the fans back. UPDATE 3 years on -Unfortunately I can no longer recommend the PocketMoney app. Over time bugs have crept in and it’s proved impossible to raise support tickets via the designated Help page. The automated Scheduled DD / Standing Order function stopped working throughout February 24 so had to add repeating transactions manually each month. Also only able to sync between devices manually which has been an issue for the past 18 months. It is a shame as this App did have great potential.

### 1/5 — DO NOT DOWNLOAD

*2024-04-12, version 3.1.21*

Subscription nightmare!

### 1/5 — 👎

*2024-03-18, version 3.1.21*

Not worth it. It was way the best when Catamount was the owner.

### 4/5 — Living with the app

*2024-02-11*

Almost my most-used app. After feeling somewhat highjacked into adopting this app after the former PocketMoney app disabled without warning, I have lived with it for a few years now and, importantly, I am still able to access the historical data accumulated previously. My greatest niggle is that there is no way to assign a default category to regular payees (eg Sainsbury’s is nearly always Groceries). It is also dangerously easy to inadvertently delete data when accessing existing records. I would also like to be able to backup my data to a cvv file that would, in extremis, be accessible on a platform such as Microsoft Excel. Otherwise, users remain vulnerable if/when this iteration of the app is abandoned by the developer. Finally, I pay an annual subscription to remove adverts and presumably support development. But there appears to be little ongoing development of this app. Whilst it is stable, I would argue it has yet to reach the pinnacle of perfection.

**Developer response:** Dear user, thank you for your feedback!
We would like to address two of your concerns:
1) Regular transactions: each time you create a transaction you can show previous transactions from a button which appears below, and you can quickly add transactions which appears on a regular basis.
2) Export function: you can definitely export your data on CSV, either in case you want to access it from another app (Excel) or simply migrate to another software in the future.

I hope this helps.
Best regards
The PocketMoney Team

### 1/5 — Annoying ads

*2024-02-02, version 3.1.21*

I noticed that there's too many ads especially in between transaction and there's no way of getting rid of it and it's so annoying to see when looking at your budget. I even tried closing the ad but it makes a blank empty spot and then a few minutes later another ads come on again. There's probably about 5 ads when looking at a budget. I have been using pocket money since it came out I even paid for the app but lots of things changed overtime, some are good but it's a matter of getting used to it. Now the ads is the worse thing I'm encountering, I'm even willinh to pay to get rid of those annoying ads.

### 4/5 — Upgrading my review Now I am Happy!

*2024-01-31*

I had used this for many years and then got away from it when I reinstalled it. I had a very difficult time trying to get it to work. I left a one star review. I am upgrading it to a four star review took me eight hours to get the thing up and running, but now that I have the hangConversations of it and got it to work I’m very pleased. But truthfully, in the beginning, I had to delete and reinstall and play that game before I could get it working. I paid for gold subscription because I don’t need the banking features and now it works flawlessly and meets my expectations and it’s just as good as it used to be, it’s really good but if you have trouble in the beginning, be patient, it’s really a great app and it’s worth the money paid. Thank you.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Subscribed but still seeing ads! No support!

*2026-03-03, version 3.1.29*

My GOLD level subscription renewed in December but I’m still seeing ads. Tried to restore subscription: error message. Tried to find support online: nonexistent! I’ve been using this app since it first appeared for the Newton way back when but I will be cancelling my subscription and looking for a new finance app.

### 1/5 — Paid app still getting ads

*2026-02-10, version 3.1.29*

I paid for this app years ago and still have ads. Whats the point of paying then? And to get support I have to create yet another account.

### 1/5 — No ads ?

*2026-02-08*

I used to have PocketMoney with no ads, and much better : as soon as one data was entered it automatically filled the rest. Also I could look up reports easily to see when I last went to hairdresser, not anymore. They downloaded this version on my new phone at the Apple Store. Can I please buy the better adless version ??? How ??????

### 1/5 — I still have adds

*2025-10-01, version 3.1.29*

I have the paid version and I still have ads!

### 1/5 — Backup to email crashes, ads for a paid app is a joke

*2025-06-03, version 3.1.29*

This app gets worse every year, I have paid for multiple versions of this app over the years and use a minimal feature set. Now the features I use crash and I have to watch ads to use them just to watch it crash, please fix!

### 1/5 — Purchased this years ago and now they want more $$$

*2025-01-19, version 3.1.29*

Paid for the product previously and now they want more money. So tired of subscriptions based apps. Let me buy the app and use (like this one was) not pay you monthly.

### 1/5 — Bring back old PocketMoney

*2024-12-04, version 3.1.27*

This app completely different than the original version on PM. This version is garbage and doesn’t have half the usability that the original version had! Please bring back the old PM!!

Updated - others looking for an alternative, check out Debit & Credit app

### 1/5 — Old version

*2024-07-25, version 3.1.22*

The first version was very good, good User interface, great experience… this one is difficult to use

### 1/5 — Uninstalling After 10 years! (Junk rewrite)

*2024-06-09, version 3.1.22*

WOW! What have you done? I paid full price for the original version of Pocket Money! The original developer (Hardy) gave us a simple useful and great app... after he passed away, another developer bought the rights. And now look at what he did? This app is ruined now. And greed has taken precedence! Developer turning off the basic features unless you subscribe and pay a monthly fee! I AM UNINSTALLING THIS APP. This is betrayal! The app is ridiculously confusing now. I hope you reap what you sow! You need to change the name because this is not pocket money! I want the original app back!

### 1/5 — Glad I moved on

*2024-05-14, version 3.1.22*

With the release of a new app comes the release of new problems. The primary of these is the cry of bewilderment - “How on earth do I use this??”. With the changes from the previous baseline being so absolute and so far reaching, there’s a huge metaphorical mountain to climb for anyone trying to adopt the new methodology. The embedded help is a pretty good superficial overview that hints at a vast amount of capability but it massively underestimates the learning curve for those of us used to the old system. Scratching beneath the surface, there appears to be a wealth of functionality here if only one could work out how to drive it correctly. It doesn’t seem to cover all of the functions provided by the previous version, however, and appears to prioritise function over form so that even reading some of the small numbers can be a challenge. If all of the previous operations are available, it’s not obvious how to find them. Some of those historic functions have become critical to users who have built up a method of working over many years. The inclusion of adverts is, I’m afraid, just crass and intrusive. There are ways to display ads in apps and this is not it. The fact that this was previously a paid-for version of the app that historically was guaranteed ad-free has furthered the impact of this decision. I’m not going to address the subscription element of this release. I don’t use subscription based apps for a reason. While the historic ownership chain is understood, releasing this new version ‘over the top of the old’ feels like a mistake of large proportions for the latest owners. A separate release, alongside the existing App, may have been a more considerate and honest way to do this. This would have allowed users to migrate their data at their own pace and in their own way had they wished to. It would also have given the new app space to breathe and earn users on its own merits rather than trying to cannibalise the user base of the old. Of course, the existing app had a number of critical bugs that had been ignored for a year or two so I can understand why this wasn’t the chosen approach. In all, I’m glad I took the opportunity to move my data to another App earlier this year. I’m sure this new version has many capabilities but I’m happy where I am and can’t afford the time to try and decipher them. The legacy implementation was brilliant and a credit to its creator. I hope that this new implementation can be too, one day, but it will have to do so without my patronage. A real shame. Edit: I should also note that the constant minor updates that we had for a while, resetting the review statistics, tell a lot about the attitude of the new owners and is low grade annoying. Rather than addressing the issues raised, cancelling out the ‘star count’ and hoping for a better set next time seems to be the approach. I’m not encouraged. Similarly, the many review responses saying nothing more than “you’re doing it wrong, read the help” demonstrate nothing more than the arrogance of a team trying to monetise a once successful app for their own gain and leaving customers to take the pain of that. RIP Hardy Marcia, your app was genius and your support was legendary. This abuse of your legacy? Not so much.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The Best money register

*2026-08-21, version 3.1.29*

This app is amazing for keeping track of your money. Try it and you won’t need another money app. Period!!

### 5/5 — From a SIX YEAR user (update: 12 years)

*2025-12-28, version 3.1.29*

I retired in 2013. I had always kept a paper check register balanced every day. There had to be a way to toss the pencil.

Found PocketMoney on a Google search and it happened to be late December 2016. The Help section is well written and support answered my questions well enough that I was ready 1/1/17.

Long story short, it’s been six (10) years of keeping accurate and balanced accounts. It’s not complicated, as the AT&T girl says. Every account appears on the main page. Just select the one you want to update. It’s a daily snapshot of your finances.

Responsive support influenced me to give this app such a high rating.

Longevity is the proof of product and customer support. I recommend it for the iPad especially.

### 5/5 — In app adds

*2025-10-05*

I pay for a gold subscription in the App Store and still have in app adds. I can’t even open a ticket to resolve this issue. If this can’t be rectified will need to find alternative app

### 5/5 — App I use since I got my first Palm Pilot

*2025-09-01*

Very nice for my personal usage!
I only miss one key feature ! I would like, on a given transaction, to add a link to the Photo gallery. At the moment, I can only attach a new photo.
Business case = screenshot of a document
When can it be planned ? Thanks!

### 5/5 — Flawless

*2025-04-13, version 3.1.29*

Don’t need the bank statements anymore because they are incorporated in my everyday transactions
Don’t use the auto download feature because my bank does not like that and changes the log in to often to keep up with it

### 5/5 — From a SIX YEAR user (update: 10 years)

### 5/5 — Time stamp

Please bring back time stamp feature.

### 5/5 — I love PocketMoney

*2024-03-15*

I have searched high and low for an app that I can use to track my expenses. I have downloaded almost every one out there. None are as easy to use as PocketMoney. I love how you plan recurring expenses, transfers and incomes for future dates and it does not change your current balance until you check cleared. Every other app out there changes the current balance to reflect the future date transactions. Which makes your transaction register inaccurate for the current day. I love the group folders! I have all my checking, savings and credit card accounts listed and it’s easy to read and navigate. The only thing I would love to see is a calendar view of your income and expenses. If that could be added in an update this app would be perfect!

### 5/5 — Pocket Money Amazing

*2024-01-15, version 3.1.21*

I have used the App for 7 years and without problems, it fits almost any need for money management, card management and so on, perhaps budget management can be simplified and I would like them to add a bills reminder
